LOCAL AUTHOR LAUNCHES KIDS BOOK

ACHELLE HORVATH is a local children’s author who has written an illustrated a book which will be featured at the Scotch Creek Library. She will be introducing her book “Come On Little One, Let’s Go See Grandma In The Garden Panting A Seed”, during story time on October 24, 2015 at 11:00 am. She has lived in the North Shuswap since 2009, spending most of her free time in her garden. Rachelle has always had a love for gardening and has worked with children through much of her career but it is only since becoming a Grandmother that

e!

she has been able to combined the two. Her tools started as a hoe and a rake but have evolved to include a camera, some crayons and a computer keyboard. This is her first published book and she is excited to share what will be the first of many adventures in Grandma’s garden. Come walk through the garden with her interactive Children’s reader. She would like to bring the children back out into the garden; helping them understand where their food is coming from. From the seed to the plate, and the ecosystem within the garden. The garden and the birth of a new family member is embraced and celebrated in this educational children’s book.

Positively Seen in Chase This Week Submitted by Chase and District Chamber of Commerce

Last Sunday a large turnout of ladies was treated to a wonderful fashion show and tea in support of breast cancer research. Once again, it was good to see so many segments of our community represented. Attendees of all ages went home with generous prizes and silent auction items donated by local businesses, craft groups and Team Chase members. The audience members were clearly impressed by the wide range of fashions which are available here in Chase. Local models including Miss Chase Excellence Royalty exhibited fashions ranging from the casual to the truly elegant, all supplied

by four local retailers: Chum ‘n Luba’s, The Teak Boutique, G Force and Home Hardware. How lucky we are to have such a variety of clothing available to us here in our little Village! There is no need to leave Chase to find clothing suitable for work, play or those special occasions; we have it all right here. Kudos to Team Chase for supporting local businesses in their fundraising efforts and to our business for supporting the community in so many ways. Thanks too, to all those people who supported cancer research through their participation in this memorable event. Well done everyone!

Medical System Doesn’t Fail On September 28th at approx 1:50 pm a wasp outside the Community Hall stung me. I am deathly allergic to wasps! I gave myself my epi pen injection and was taken to Chase Health Centre by my friend Lorna Douglas. Upon arrival I was immediately taken to the trauma room where Dr. Ferguson and a team of nurses began working on me with more epinephrine, oxygen, Benadryl, the works!! Dr. Ferguson did not leave my side as I was very close to needing intubation. The paramedics soon arrived and I was air ambulanced to Royal Inland Hospital where I was very closely monitored there for 8 hours and released to home sometime in the late evening. I want to thank the Chase Health Unit

Staff, Dr. Ferguson, the Chase ambulance including air ambulance and Paramedics who all worked hard to save my life. Some people complain about BC medical system at times for long wait lists for tests and surgery but in my experience over the years, when you really need the system when you are genuinely in dire health and you genuinely have an emergency the system NEVER fails you. In addition we must STOP using our small trauma centres and ER’s as walk in clinics. Find a doctor, (I know it is hard but they are out there) remember to refill your medications and be responsible. The ER will work better for everyone and save millions of dollars if we do. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved. Glenda Mosher

Hello again, friends! Can I just take a minute and tell you all how awesome it feels to have leagues started up again! It was a quiet Summer for us this year, as expected, and being run off our feet busy is much more “up our alley”…sorry for the pun. We will give a few adults a little bit of credit this week, starting with Alec Deneault! Congratulations to Alec, who rolled a 358 game on Wednesday night, and is sitting pretty on the men’s high average board in second place! Alec’s Tuesday night teammate, Sheryl Penttila, had a great night this past week, totalling a 601 for her three game total! Finally, one of our newest bowlers to Village Lanes, Megan Kennedy, totalled a 592 on Friday night. Not too shabby for her first year of league bowling! Way to go Megan! The real story of the week is centered around our Youth Bowlers! Let me just brag about how amazing these kids are. I can honestly say that we have some of the most respectful, fun, and just all around great kids bowling with us this year! These kids even gave up their cellphones at league this past Wednesday! THANK YOU GUYS! Each year, the youth bowlers sell chocolates to help fundraise for certain tournaments and events, and already, we have a bowler that is on her fifth case of chocolates! IN 3 DAYS! Super impressive. If you see these kids selling chocolates, PLEASE, support them! Not only are attitudes improving in our Youth Leagues, but so is the bowling! A huge congratulations to Nick Leduc, on his amazing 269 game from this past week! Nick, you’re making it hard for us all to keep up. Proud of you! Have a fantastic weekend everyone! Cheers!

The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski

Able to create images with the disturbing reality of a victim recalling a horrific time Kosinski’s novel includes pieces of his own life. Rendered mute by a violent encounter with an angry mob in war torn eastern Europe, both Kosinski and his protagonist later regain their voices. Circumstances unimaginable to most people push the survivors of this trying time to the edge, and through villages facing famine and oppression travels a small boy. Wily in the ways of making

Churchill’s Corner by Wally Churchill

My words are never sugar coated, I always shoot from the hip, an expression some young minds might not dig. A little tongue in cheek goes a long way. More truth is said in jest. On Thursday, the 17th of September I had the privilege to sing the “Harperman” song with other musicians in Salmon Arm. The song was written by Tony Turner, a scientist with Environment Canada and folk singer. The song is getting popular, for good reason. It has been viewed

online 1,650,000 times now, and sing along versions of the song have been performed across the country. We as Canadians still have some freedoms. It takes only one bill from the Federal government to change that. The Liberals think they have a chance but it is not True Dough. Vote with Gusto but please vote. Wally, the hugger guy, is a resident of Chase who recently celebrated his 85th birthday.

4 point weekend - HUGE

by Scott Koch The KIJHL leading scorer from the Kaboom crew got that one back with 20 seconds left in the period. Once again stellar tending in the 3rd. Off to overtime and with the HEAT on the powerplay Michael Fidanza from Alexander Durbeniuk and Logan Mostat sent the local crowd home happy! The HEAT successfully killed all 7 powerplay opportunities against the leagues top scorers and Nic Bruyere went the distance in net for the victory. Sunday afternoon saw a matinee matchup versus our neighbours the Kamloops STORM. Art Holding Memorial Arena saw fans on the edges of their seats as these two teams are arch rivals. In the 1st Mostat got things started assisted by Tommy Brown and Kolten Moore. Kamloops popped in a shorthanded goal to end the period and then took the lead less then 3 minutes into the NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 2nd. The HEAT then - VILLAGE OF CHASE got that one back to TAKE NOTICE that a Public Hearing will be held at the Village notch things up at 2 by Office, 826 Okanagan Avenue, Chase, B.C., on Tuesday, October Braden Hughes aided 13, 2015 at 4:00 by Zachary Fournier. p.m. to consider In the 3rd more stellar

So the tale of the month of September is that YOUR Chase HEAT finish with a 4 win 2 loss record. They did it by beating the best of the best in the KIJHL! HEAT Family Weekend was of special note, as the Annual Golf Tournament was bookended by the two teams that fought during the finals in last season’s playoffs for the KIJHL Championship. Not one of the games in the past month were against a foe that the HEAT could take a night off for. Friday the 25th saw the KIJHL League Champion Kimberley DYNAMITERS travel to our lakeside community for an epic battle that went into overtime. In the 1st no scoring but stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink. In the 2nd Chase was first on the board with a marker from Travis Beaubien assisted by Spencer Farstad and Pat Brady.

tending by Bruyere and his counterpart at the other end. In the 2nd overtime period the shot of the game came off the stick of Spencer Farstad unassisted for 2 huge points for the homeside. In this contest the HEAT successfully killed all 10 extra man opportunities for the visitors! Bruyere faced 72 shots in the 2 games allowing only 3 goals! HOT TOPICS: The 5th Annual Golf Tournament at Sunshore was a success as families, friends and fans rubbed elbows and told tall tales alongside the players. The stunning 3rd jerseys were unveiled on Sunday versus the STORM. Black with colourful trim and a new look logo on the chest…it made the fans discuss fashion at a hockey contest. Next up on Friday October 2nd at 7 pm are the cowboys from the Cariboo, the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS. Saturday the boys are at MacArthur Island in the Loops to face the STORM and Sunday back at home at 2 pm versus the Golden ROCKETS. Thanks go out to our loyal fan base that does a great job of encouraging the players towards success!
