The Sixteenth Two Oceans Marlin Tournament The annual and prestigious T.O.M.T once again successfully hosted by Suidpunt Deep Sea Angling Club between 11 and 18 February ’22. The tournament is strictly catch and release and the winners determined by a point scoring system. Keen contestants came from far and wide to participate, and Struisbaai Harbour was a buzz to attempt to hook up the ultimate in game fishing. The stealthy Marlin can reach speeds of up to 80km per hour and can weigh in at a hefty 750kg’s. A total of 35 boats entered this year. The predictably unpredictable weather proved to be a challenge with big swell after a fresh South Easterly, but the reward was some record-breaking hook ups and a total of 6 Marlin landed and released. The tournament is a highlight on the calendar. Apart from the epic fishing, complements of Cape Agulhas’ rich fishing waters, the hosts as always pulled out all the stops, contestants were treated from start to finish with excellent food, including an epic spit braai & a Pirate themed night, as well as fabulous prizes for all the categories. Thanks to Marinda, Dhalene and team for their dedication. All this was backed by excellent behind the scenes organization, by the legendary Andrew Perrins & Earl Fenwick, without whom this event would not be possible. A big congratulations to the proud winners, who landed the last Black Marlin of the tournament, Team Bayswater.

Cape Agulhas

Keen participants to the Geelstert Challenge held on the 30th of December 2021 braved tough weather conditions to compete in this annual event to test the know-how and luck of the participants. Young and old got involved showing comradery and skill, to land yellowtail, that came later than anticipated. Congratulations to the winner of the prize for heaviest yellowtail, JP Le Roux. He landed a beauty of 10,68kg’s from the boat Multi, and the R20 000 cash prize went to him. As always the prizes were outstanding and winners were spoiled with quality prizes from sponsors. Our own Grant van der Westhuizen hosted the prize giving event that covered from biggest fish to the smallest. With the experienced hosts, Suidpunt Deepsea Angling Club, the event ran smoothly, and the harbour and club were a hive of activity. Chas Everitt Cape Agulhas are proud to have been the main sponsors, and we appreciate everyone who travelled from afar and near to support our beautiful and beloved town.

JUKSKEI L‘AGULHAS Meent 2 Melkbos Straat L'Agulas

Agulhas Jukskei klub het die voorreg gehad om op 11 Desember 2021 al die klubs van die Overberg. (Groenberg, Gansbaai, Kleinmond en Betty's Baai) hier in Agulhas tydens die Agulhas Ope te verwelkom. Die dag is deur Chas Everitt geborg en het vir groot opgewondenheid, samehorigheid en nuwe vriendskapsbande gesorg. 'n Baie geslaagde dag en die eerste vir ons hier plaaslik na al die inperkings wat COVID 19 die afgelope 18 maande veroorsaak het. Daar is in drie afdelings naamlik A, B en C afdelings meegeding.

STRUISBAAI VAARDIGHEIDS SKOOL Die Struisbaai samewerkende skool (collaboration school) projek is ‘n gesamentlike projek van die Wes Kaap Onderwysdepartement (WKOD) en die Struisbaai SOS Funding Trust. Dit behels die uitbreiding van Struisbaai Primêr met ‘n vaardigheidsafdeling. Die doel van die projek is om tieners toe te rus met bemarkbare vaardighede in lyn met die behoeftes van die plaaslike ekonomie. Tans bied die skool twee tegniese vakke: Siviele onderhoud (Sweis- en metaalwerk, houtwerk, loodgietery, elektriese werk, glaswerk, teëlwerk, bouwerk, motorwerktuigkunde) en voedselproduksie met ‘n sterk fokus op die gasvryheid sektor. Die projek spreek die hoë uitval syfer van leerders uit skole aan. 80% van leerders wat graad een in Struisbaai Primêr tussen 2002 en 2006 betree het, het skool verlaat sonder om vir matriek in te skryf.
