COUNT AGUSTA GOLF & EQUESTRIAN ESTATE A TASTE OF ITALY AT THE HEART OF THE GARDEN ROUTE From across the dense-scrub clad slopes of the Piesang Valley, Villa Agusta’s distinctive terracotta-tiled roof and colonnaded façade call to mind the architecture of a Mediterranean countryside manor. Set deep within the undulating curves of this protected valley near Plettenberg Bay, the luxury villa was built by an Italian count to provide a home away from home for family and close friends. The house offers, from every one of its timber-framed windows, jaw-dropping vistas of golf course and manicured gardens, paddocks and ponds – a world apart from the bustle of the nearby coastal town that has popularly become known as the “Jewel of the Garden Route”.

AN ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE
UNPARALLELED VIEWS
INDOOR-OUTDOOR LIVING
LIVE IN COMPLETE HARMONY WITH NATURE Overlooking an expansive hillside wildlife sanctuary and perched on the highest point of 22-hectares of landscaped gardens, the villa is accessed via a pair of handsome wrought-iron gates, each bearing the Agusta family crest. A sweeping lantern-lit paved driveway leads to the portico entrance, with its charming Juliette balcony and cupola window. The valley, which is home to a number of bird and antelope species, not to mention monkeys, baboons and wild pigs, is ever present from every angle of the house, but no more so than from the extensive wraparound patio, with its quarry-tile and marble floors and terracotta planters, each spilling over with a shock of brilliant bougainvillea. Six loungers sit at the ready for avid sun worshippers alongside the vast swimming pool, which is set into a colonnaded tiled deck and forms the focal point of this side of the house.
15
ENJOY EXPANSIVE VISTAS AND TOP-TIER FACILITIES Offering a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living, the villa is surrounded by rolling lawns that give onto an 18-hole golf course as well as a series of meticulously maintained paddocks and a state-of-the-art equestrian centre with no less than 24 stables. The well-established garden is gravity fed by the estate’s own 140 000-litre reservoir and is peppered with water features as well as a large pond. To one side of the property, at the end of a paddock-bordered drive, is the stylish five-bedroom guesthouse, once the original farmhouse, which has been renovated to the highest modern standards and is beautifully in keeping with the Italian flair of the main house.
19
INSPIRED BY NATURE
ENTER A WORLD OF UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE Ingeniously designed in an H-shaped configuration, the villa’s sophisticated interiors beckon from beyond a spacious double-volume entrance hall. Here, behind a pair of colossal timber fanlight doors, pristine Travertine floors lead the way to two grand symmetrical staircases, each embellished with elaborate wrought-iron banisters. To one side of the hallway, a door leads to the library cum billiard room, while, to the other, is a guest bathroom whose marble floor is inlaid with teak and whose walls are lined in panels of pure linen. Presiding over the foyer, a sizeable copper chandelier illuminates richly patterned Oriental rugs, imported wood furnishings and prized gilt-framed artworks. Opulent in the way that only an interior curated with an expert eye for detail can be, this inviting space admirably sets the tone for things to come.
25
CLASSIC FORM MEETS MODERN FUNCTION
ENCOUNTER TIMELESS LUXURY WITH CONTEMPORARY CONVENIENCE A magnificent wood-burning fireplace sits at the confluence of a pair of formal living rooms where ceilings are broad beamed and teak floorboards are polished to a high-gloss. The entrance to the adjacent library - a quirky nautically themed room with blue-painted joinery and chess set at the ready – is framed by an ornate woodwork surround carved in India. From here one is able to access a fully equipped gym complete with sauna and shower room, as well as a home office with large walk-in safe, one of two on the property. To the opposite side of the living area, the dining room boasts a 14-seater solid wood table presided over by a sumptuous chandelier, with elegant ivory-hued damask on the walls. The neighboring chef’s kitchen is arranged around a vast central island and features two gas hobs and smart granite worktops. Although charmingly reminiscent of a European farmhouse kitchen with flagstone floors and cottage-pane cupboard doors, it is fitted with state-of-the-art Italian appliances and includes a breakfast nook, pantry, laundry room and guest bathroom. Shuttered doors lead from the dining room to the patio, which is spacious enough for 12-seater table to one side and an informal alfresco lounge to the other.
31
SUCCUMB TO COMFORT IN THE SUPREME Radiating off the spacious upper-floor landing, each of the villa’s five en-suite bedrooms feature stately four posters dressed in an array of natural linens, with plush carpeting underfoot. All open out to the balcony, with its captivating views that call to mind the rolling hills of Umbria. A study in stylish blue and cream pinstripes, the master bedroom boasts its own wood-burning fireplace and retractable TV, and is flanked by a pair of his-and-hers marble-clad bathrooms, both with under-floor heating. Off each bathroom is a large private dressing room where a generously proportioned divan takes centre stage. With en-suite bathroom complete with spa bath, cozy reading nook and a completely separate entrance, the “Africa Room” is the ideal space for guests who prefer to come and go as they please.

PLANS & DETAIL
EXPERIENCE A LIFESTYLE LIKE NO OTHER Originally named Bahi Formosa (“beautiful bay”) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay lies on South Africa’s Garden Route, 210km from Port Elizabeth and about 600km from Cape Town. The coast around Plett, as it is affectionately known, is famous for its beautiful scenery and spectacular wildlife as well as its remarkably rich archaeological heritage. The pretty coastal town is home to a number of world-class restaurants and shops. It also offers numerous adrenalin-fueled activities, such as the world’s highest bungee jump, skydiving, kloofing (canyoning), whale and dolphin watching, surfing and deep-sea fishing. The area boasts some of the best walks on the planet and Blue Flag-accredited beaches ensure a pristine swimming environment.
