Tranum Discusses Insurance Reform With Officials in Albany The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers Association advocates for 1,200 businesses in Chautauqua County representing over 20,000 employees.

Community Foundation Helps Promote Chautauqua County As part of its branding campaign to promote Chautauqua County as the World‘s Learning Center, the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau has developed a new brochure entitled 20 Ways to Learn on Vacation. Made possible by a Community Service Grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, the brochure details the variety of vacation learning experiences you can find in Chautauqua County. Grant funds were used to produce a two-year supply of the brochure designed locally by Kellogg Design and printed by Falconer Printing and Design. The brochure wil l be di stri but ed throughout the Chautauqua region and through tourism brochure racks from Niagara to Pittsburgh. ―Enticing visitors to Chautauqua County and the residents of our region to come out and learn more about our

surroundings is very important,‖ said Randy Sweeney, Executive Director, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. ―That is why we were pleased to be able to help support the printing of the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau‘s new 20 Ways to Learn on Vacation brochure.‖ CCVB Executive Director Andrew Nixon said, ―The brochure is a visual representation of what is meant by Chautauqua County—The World‘s Learning Center. Summer 2011 will be the most eventful season the Bemus Bay Pops has put together since its inception thirteen years ago.

Independence Day weekend is highlighted with a Tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel on July 2nd, a Tribute to the Blooz Brothers on July 3rd, and a sensational tribute to Kiss on the 4th of July culminating with Fireworks over Chautauqua Lake.

A special Bicentennial Bemus Point Stow Ferry Celebration will be held July 9th with Mark Twain and Friends. Proceeds will go to keep the historic ferry afloat.

Popular events being continued this year include the free movies series presented by M & T Bank, Praise on the Lake with contemporary worship services by the Bemus Point United Methodist Church, and Chautauqua Lake Idol organized by Media One Group radio station SE-93. New to Idol this year will be Chautauqua Junior Idol, with eleven local high pg 2

schools sending talented vocalists to participate in a non-competitive entertainment showcase.

Also new this year is a floating platform, featuring a 2011 Camero convertible from Shults Auto Group which will be raffled off to benefit the WCA Capital Campaign.

Bemus Bay Pops is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping our communities to grow culturally and economically while providing funfilled family entertainment on beautiful Lake Chautauqua..

All performances are family friendly and provide quality entertainment for all ages.

Chamber Helps Kick Off Music on the Pier The skies turned cloudy, but the storm held off for the first City of Dunkirk Music on the Pier event of the summer season on June 16th. Over 1,000 people turned out for the concert, sponsored by the Dunkirk Community Chamber of Commerce.

A complimentary VIP tent with tables and chairs, and free pizza from Campi‘s Pizza, was provided for Chamber of Commerce members and their guests. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tilley won the gift basket raffle drawing from Merritt Estate Winery, which was presented by Stephanie Pulvino the President of the Dunkirk Community Chamber of Commerce.

Making a special guest appearance at the VIP tent was legendary Western New York sportscaster Van Miller, who was in town for his annual Van Miller Golf Tournament held the following day at Shorewood Country Club. Mr. Miller took pictures and signed autographs for fans and was even spotted dancing.

Anniversary Celebration: 40 Years and Still ‘Driven to Keep You Driving’ The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and local officials were on hand to help mark a very special milestone for a local business. At the northernmost part of our county lies a local business that has clearly built a solid foundation. Jim White‘s Truck and Auto Center in Irving is celebrating 40 years of continued service to the community.

Owner Jim White began selling cars in 1971 with his brother at ‗White Brothers‘ in Sheridan, New York.

After some success, Jim took what knowledge and expertise he had gained to Irving, opening what was then called ―Jim White‘s Used Cars.‖ ―His slogan when he first started was ‗An Honest Deal from and Honest Dealer,‖ said Jim White‘s son, Richard White, who is now the firms‘ manager. Apparently the slogan has become a business model, since the company now known as Jim White‘s Truck and Auto Center is now a large used car dealership with a service guarantee.

Saturday, May 28. Family, Friends and patrons gathered at Mancuso Service Center to celebrate the official ribbon cutting for their new Automatic Car Wash and Detail Center. There was free food for all including hot dogs and pizza along with KIX Country 95.5 and the sun made a special appearance in between the clouds. Four Generations were represented making this a truly family owned and operated business while Shelley (Mother),Tony (Father), and (Son) Tony Jr. and Regina his wife run the day to day operations. On hand to perform the Ceremony were members of the Fredonia and County Chamber of Commerce supplying the giant scissors operated by Fredonia Mayor Stephen Keefe. Member News Aspire to Hold Aspiring Artists Art on Ice Celebration Aspire will partner with the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena to present the ―coolest event of the summer‖ - the 2nd Annual Aspiring Artists Art on Ice Celebration, Friday, July 22nd from 59pm. Nearly 250 guests will taste local wines, micro-brews and culinary delights while enjoying live music from Aspire‘s band, Universal Mind. Throughout the evening attendees have the opportunity to lace up their skates for a few turns on the arena ice just steps from their table (FREE skate rentals are provided).

Aspire of Western New York, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides a broad range of services to people with developmental and other disabilities. The main focus of the event is to celebrate the extraordinary talent of the many artists who participate in Aspire‘s iXpress Program and the evening culminates in a live auction of their most accomplished works. ■■■ Babe Ruth World Series Seeks Host Families/National Anthem Singers The Jamestown Babe Ruth World Series committee is still in need of Host Families for the Babe Ruth World Series to be held August 2027th, 2011. This will be the 15th time the Jamestown World Series Committee has hosted a World Series since 1980. This year‘s tournament will involve players aged 13-15 who will be competing for the title of World Series Champion. We are in need of roughly 30 additional families who are willing to share their lives and their homes with these boys in an effort to make memories that last a lifetime. pg 6

Cha ut a uqua PT Presents Fa ll Prevention Seminar The next in a series of Helping You Help Yourself Free Seminars presented by Chautauqua Physical & Occupational Therapy is titled "Finding your Balance to Prevent a Fall.‖ Falls are a leading cause of decline in older adults and their ability to live independently. Preventing a fall is clearly the key. Many feel they have no control over whether or not they fall, however, this is simply not correct. Research shows that a physical therapy evaluation can have a huge impact on preventing a fall. Increasing one's balance through basic exercises that can be done at home are effective ways to have a positive impact along with some simple adjustments to one's home environment.

■■■ YMCA to Hold Babysitting Clinic The Jamestown YMCA announces the next date has been set for the YMCA babysitting clinic for boys and girls, ages 11-16.

The clinic will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 9am-3pm at the Jamestown YMCA. The clinic will instruct participants about the responsibilities involved in caring for younger children including child development, safety, emergency response, and more. The clinic is taught by experienced instructors who have knowledge in child development, health and overall care of children.
