Design Motivation

An everyday obstacle to overcome to survive When it comes to diabetes, it might mean a thorough change in lifestyle. According to WHO (World Health Organization) , the global prevalence of diabetes was estimated to be 9% among adults in 2014; and by estimation, 1.5 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes in 2012.

The difficulties users faced

Eye vision challenge Diabetes will affect the eye vision and even cause GLDEHWLF UHWLQRSDWK\ ,W LV GLIĆ“FXOW IRU SDWLHQWV WR VHW correct dosage of insulin through such tiny dial.

Shot angle maintain A straight shot injection, using 90 degree, is most recommended. However, the exposed needle makes it hard for patients to control the insertion angle without any support.


Repetitive setting Chronic diabetics consume regular amount of dosage everyday, but they have to set the same dosage again and again before every injection.

Hard-handled shape Pen-shaped injector is convenient for storage but not so convenient for injection, especially for elderly patients who are gradually losing dexterity by aging.

Form Development

Sickly — no more Injectors are daily necessities for diabetics, like writing pens for most of people. Therefore, the form of injector will not only affect the physiological but also the mental aspect of patients. I developed seven types of forms and tested them with different user injecting different body sites. Based on the feedback from users, the form of injector adapted to be both HIƓFLHQW LQ IXQFWLRQ DQG GHOLFDWH LQ VKDSH

Design Motivation

Rhinitis: unpredictable yet hard to deal with Rhinitis is one of the most common chronic conditions for which medical care is sought. However, there is no radical treatment for rhinitis as the triggers are complex. Without effective drug therapy, patients try to keep the noes warm to reduce symptoms. Offer the least weather forecast 5. Forecast the next happening of rhinitis

How does the wristband detect the rhinitis Most of the pulse oximeters need users to clamp a projecting part of the human body in order to measure the blood oxygen levels. However, clamping will cause oppressive feelLQJ DQG EORRG Ĺ´RZ EORFNLQJ 7KHUHIRUH ZH DSSOLHG D UHĹ´HFWLYH RSWLFDO VHQVRU ZKLFK FDQ makes precision measurements without any clamping.

How does the app predict rhinitis Rhinitis seems to occur randomly. Fortunately, there are some data that can help us understand rhinitis. Nose Day app receives blood oxygen levels from wristband and body reports from users regularly, and then the app uploads these data to cloud. The uploaded data will be processed with environment data WR Ć“JXUH RXW ZKDW NLQG RI VLWXDWLRQ ZLOO FDXVH rhinitis. Next time when similar weather forecasting and body data appears, the app can alert the user to take precautions in advance.

Concept

The dynamic between human beings and nature Light is closely linked with life. People need light, while many other life forms react directionally to a light source. Inspired by such phenomena, we designed a lighting collection, Jade Flow. Jade Flow connects human behavior with the phototaxis of the algae. Research

Discover the phototaxis motion of algae Before design, we sought a kind of creature that can react sensitively to light. After several experiments, we eventually chose a species of algae, H. Pluvialis (Haematococcus Pluvialis). To understand the motion of H. Pluvialis, we PHDVXUHG KRZ WKH IROORZLQJ IDFWRUV LQŴXHQFH the algae: 1. Light color 2. Light intensity 3. Relative position of light and algae 4. Relative position of gravity and algae 5. Container shape 6. Temperature

Form Development

Display algae like a piece of jade


The experiments showed that the conditions for producing the most conspicuous phototaxis effect of H. Pluvialis was while being housed in a standing thin disc with the light placed beneath. According to the results, we applied jade-shape as the container shape, which makes algae’s motion visible to human sight and transforms the life science into an oriental aesthetics.

Minimalism in structure yet Fanaticism in details

A t e w t


Ash, the material made of Stoool, is a kind of wood with harmonious textures. To reveal this characteristic, Stoool applies the minimal element of a plane—a triangle, as the basic structure. Delicate joints, which emphasis on the geometrical texture, assemble each part of the stool but also increase the strength.

Dialogue between visible and invisible Acrylic joints are invisible but indispensable. The transparent joints give a space for nature patterns, and meanwhile they assemble the whole structure. Without any gluing, Stoool can be separated into three equal parts, easy for storage and installation.

Sitting in the center of the universe Sitting in a rocking chair, reading or thinking, always creates a sensation that settles people in the center of an unsteady yet peaceful experience. This kind of atmosphere corresponds to what one might feel at the center of the universe. With the interlacing steel rings, Elliptical Galaxy creates a universe of your own.

Structure of elliptical galaxy


Inspired by the glorious elliptical galaxy, the rocking chair is consisted of three elliptical steel rings without any straight lines. The black leather seat represents the endless darkness in the universe.

Prospect Elliptical Galaxy was original made of three wire rings in the ratio of 1 to 10. It is now built in the ratio of 1 to 5 by three dimensional printing and investment casting to test the strength of the structure.
