Avoid Flooding and Bugs

Concept : Shell-ter The “Shell-Ter”is located in the middle of jungle, Chiang Mai, Thailand, where the weather is hot, humid, rainy and floods often. From these conditions, “Shell” is used for two roles. The first shell is an embraced layer that wraps around a regular wall, and functions as an insulation. The gap between two walls allows wind to cool the inside wall’s temperature. The second shell is a wood sliding door that can guard againts the heat transmitting to the inner wall directly in day time and can be closed at night to protect users from animals. A raised floor can protect the property when flooding and keep the room cool in summer.Louvers are used for shading and to bring natural light into the room.

RESEARCH: BRAIN HEALTH DISEASES AND LUTHRAN FAITH

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN The 14 Station of Cross is an important situation of Lutheran’s faith. It was about when Jesus was condemned to death and hung on the cross. This situation was an inspiration to design the chapel’s structure consististing of 14 main columns to support the entire building. The building form expresses devastation and affliction that Jesus went through. The columns were aranged unorganizedly which represents collapsing, but still keeps the cross footprint which stands for memory recall of patient users.
