SIBUTRAMINE – AN APPETITE SUPPRESSANT
Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant that is commonly used in the treatment of obesity. It is given as an additional pill in the diet chart with a routine healthy diet and exercise. The main brand marketing the product was Meridia. However, now the use of Sibutramine has been discontinued. The FDA removed the medication from the list and ban it because it has increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes in the patients taking it. It is known to cure any type of obesity like related to high cholesterol, diabetes, or high blood pressure. MECHANISM OF ACTION Sibutramine acts by targeting the chemicals present in the brain responsible for weight maintenance of the body. It gets mixed in plasma at its peak level just within an hour after its intake. After catabolism of Sibutramine, it produces two metabolites called primary and secondary amine products, which do further pharmacological actions. It is available in multiple strengths, but dieticians generally recommend Sibutramine 15 mg to most of the patients. Sibutramine is one of the best pills known.
