A big “THANK YOU” is extended to all who made our Centennial Celebration reception such a success. A particular note of gratitude is due Paula Blanchard (and her minions) who worked so hard to organize, set up, prepare the feast. We were well fed!
What a wonderful celebration of “100 Years of Grace”! Rev’d Dr. James Taylor, former rector of Grace and Christ the King (1996-1999), was the preacher and cocelebrant on that day. Two other former rectors were in attendance, Nelson Hodgkins and Fr. Bob Schriber.
Repairs: The portico walkway roof has been sealed by Hawks roofing. Both the air conditioner at Grace House and the one for the Parish Hall have been repaired. Clean-Up: Thank you to all who worked so hard to prepare our yards and for our Centennial Celebration. It was a job well done! Also, thatnk you to Susan Deans who arranged to have the inside of Grace House mopped, vacuumed, and dusted. Grace Church sparkeld!
We are so thankful for the leadership of the centennial Committee (Dr. Ray Thigpen, Connie Ghent, Greg Currie, Elsie Campbell, Paula Blanchard, and Mother Anne) for researching our history and preserving historical artifacts, pictures, and clipping for the future. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Thigpen, these items will be on display in a lovely wall unit located in the Parish Hall. Commemorative Christmas ornaments featuring a picture of the church continue to be on sale for $12. A slide show of the pictures taken during the festivities by photographer Mary Kindschuh will be available for viewing starting Sunday, August 2. If you missed the article and pictures published in the News Reporter, several copies are available for your perusal.
When you go grocery shopping, please remember our food pantry. We continue to need canned veggies and meats (Vienna sausages, beef stew, hash, Spam, etc.), dried lima beans/pintos/rice, soups (chicken noodle is a favorite), canned pasta, canned fruits (particularly fruits in light syrup or juice only), cereal and grits, flour and sugar, cooking oil, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene items. Gas gift cards are appreciated (Walmart). Please remember: We can take frozen food items too!
Treasurer’s Report: In-House Audit of the Church Financial Records Every year the church is required by the diocese to conduct an audit of all financial records. This year, John Gardner chairs our Audit Committee. Committee members include: Tim Blackmon and Jim Blanchard. A FRIENDLY PLEDGE REMINDER: While you are off enjoying traveling, visiting family and friends, playing golf, or soaking up rays at the beach, the church’s financial commitments and bills do NOT take a vacation. Please remember to send in your pledges.
Shoe Boxes: Don’t wait for the fall; start working on your contribution to our centennial project of a 100 filled shoe boxes for the Christmas Child Project (Samaritan’s Purse). Start NOW! Please place your filled boxes in the light blue rectangular container in the Parish Hall. If you cannot full a shoe box with gifts, please consider making a donation to help with mailing costs. See Kay Horne for more instructions.
