The bamboo bridge is a long pedestrian bridge spreading over one of the main river, the Klang River at Kuala Lumpur city centre. The bamboo bridge was structurally designed with completely bamboo. As an assignment on this project, students were advised to research on bamboo based architecture and to explore and understand the bridge structural system. In order to perform the understanding on bamboo bridge, students were required to build a 1:100 scale physical model which is able to stand up a minimum 5 kg load. This is examining on the structural system which is adopted and the connection between the bamboo structure.
Besides on functioning as a physical pedestrian bridge, the bamboo bridge is also connecting two contrast access point, the well known Jamek Mosque and a busy urban street across the Gombak river. The Jamek Mosque was one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur where the religion activities take place. One of the main design goal of the bamboo bridge is to create a transition between two contrast access point by layering vertical lattices to create a transition movement from place to place. By passing the bridge, the user will gradually adopts to the emotion from another place meanwhile, helps to appreciate the beauty of Kuala Lumpur city.

The Retreat House [ residential design studio ]
Designing a retreat house, it is required to develop the idea of dwelling concept with synthesis process and it helps to experience the process of “designing as a problem solving effect’’. The site is given on a hilly area with great environment, intimate with the nature and good view down to the hill, cozy weather as most of the direct sunlight shaded by mature trees on site. Before proceed to the design stage, I analysed the chosen client and their background. The chosen client was Stephenie Meyer. She is a novel author and has a family with three kids. Stephenie Meyer is strait-laced about her belief as an christian.
Due to the client herself loves nature as much as she gets inspiration easily through the interaction with nature, the retreat house was designed in a separated layout with few areas scattered apart. The intention is to preserves as many tree as possible on site. The main block of the house consists of the master bedroom, bathroom, study room, a prayer room and at its left and the right wing are where their children’s bedroom locared. A main living hall where the family spend time together was located at the centre interconnecting the master and the children’s room. Large windows with big opening were designed to maximize the ventilation and also bring the nature into the house. Besides, a special designed prayer room with a cross sign feature on the wall allowing an appropriate amount of sunlight to enter and helps to cast shadow on the floor.

The Compact Living [ residential design studio ] The above projects were based on residential design studio which helps to study the translation of human basic needs into physical form and to understand the relationship between human and their surrounding. The compact living project is about to design a basic house for myself within a given size of two steel container cabins combining into 1 in any form and layout. It shall house all the basic living spaces such as living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen with dining and a study area. The steel cabin was laid in an efficient form which allowed to have balcony and the space areas were planned carefully in order to maximize the efficiency of space. The compact living consists of two floors, the bedroom and bathroom were placed on the ground floor. The activities such as kitchen, dining area, study area and living room were placed on the upper floor. The cabin was designed with a few big openings and sliding doors to increase the cross ventilation. The site was chosen on a hill and the cabin was adopted a tropical design solution such as pitch roof, balcony, cross ventilation, overhang to practice sustainablity and maximize the advantages of the site.

Facade Deisgn for Coca-Cola [ commercial design studio ] This is a renovation project from an old shophouse facade into new business. The site located at SS15, Subang Jaya and my chosen client was Coca-cola. The old shophouse consists of three storeys and the main design goal of the project was to create an unique identity to Coca-cola through renovating the facade by blending architecture design with the business character. The site is a strategy location because it is located nearby all the college student hostel area. The design ideas come from the bubles in the drink due to its famous gasty and fuzzy feeling. The random bubles were cut into a various shapes to form an architecture rhythm and it continues up to the roof to form a movement and continuity on the facade, with the movement it portrayed a very fun and relax feeling to attracts the public and youngster.
Besides, the red colour scheme emphasizing the logo on pure white background is strongly attention. During the day the sunlight casts shadows into the building interior as decoration and during the night, the interior lights will be reflected out through the bubles to create another attractive facade which strongly help to pull attention to the Coca- Cola shop. On the ground floor, it was a Coca- Cola mini museum collecting all sorts of Coca- Cola products and the first and second floor will be the shop selling foods and drinks with excellent ambient.
