EDITOR

Visitors to London this summer want to know what’s new in town. Well, where do I begin? This is a city which constantly reinvents itself. Take its shops. This month, we pick out the most exciting new launches, from the world of sports and jewellery to fragrance and fashion. Some of the best boutiques are found in Mayfair, a historic enclave with a thoroughly modern makeover (where half of those looking to rent are aged under 29). Staying with property, we reveal London’s most expensive streets to buy on. And the city’s hottest garden accessory? The outdoor kitchen – less barbecue, more teppanyaki plates, warming drawers and cocktail stations. London has moved on.

KATHRYN DRYSDALE

Bridgerton’s Madame Delacroix talks about filming the hit Netflix show, her north London favourites and Mayfair shopping

Golders Green. I lived there with three boys. Being the only female in that flat was quite a challenge. It was a typical student flat, filled with lots of late-night guitar playing. Our diet consisted solely of pot noodles, white pasta, and jacket potatoes.

Some of my favourite places in London are in Muswell Hill. I just love the spectacular lofty views across the city and the stunning Edwardian architecture.

I love the Wallace Collection which I used to visit as a student, to find inspiration for some of the characters I’d play It has such an impressive collection of art and armoury and it’s free to visit. The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden is another beautiful building and I enjoy watching the ballet there. I performed in Covent Garden when I was in The National Youth Music Theatre, and I fell in love with it and the history of the heart of theatreland.

to experience in Mayfair. Of course Bridgerton is set in the neighbourhood in 1813. It has such a rich history and stands apart for being one of London’s oldest and most fashionable neighbourhoods, from gorgeous 18th century architecture to cool fashion boutiques, some of the world’s best bars, fabulous restaurants, and lots of open green spaces.

Working on set, it has been fascinating to learn the true stories from the neighbourhood’s glamorous history, from duelling dukes to the origins of the Queen’s wedding flowers.

I love Liberty and Selfridges, as well as Matches and Browns nearby, which I tend to shop around. I adore Jenny Packham and always drop by when shopping in and around Mayfair.

I grew up in Wigan, Lancashire, a town nestled in between Liverpool and Manchester. My earliest memory of London is when I was around three or four, visiting my aunt in Hampstead. I loved the beautiful buildings with high ceilings, tree-lined streets, beautiful parks, red buses, pigeons, and fountains. It’s one of my favourite places in London.

I absolutely loved my time at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Belsize Park. We

had some inspiring teachers. I remember we used to walk to Regent’s Park for zoo study lessons. There was a time when we had an exam which was to physically become and act as if we were an animal in real time. We had each been assigned an animal to study, with the final performance being on the London Zoo stage in front of visiting families and tourists.

My first London home was above a kosher grocery shop in

I’m currently living in Hampstead while I’m having restoration work done to my home. I enjoy walks to the Heath, the beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture and the village feel. At one time it was a place where people would come for spas and to take sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city, a place of healing – you can really feel it here.

If I could spend a day in any age of London’s past I’d choose the Regency era, which I’d love

I just think her clothing is exquisite. I’ve been fortunate enough to be dressed by Jenny in the past. One of my all-time favourite Jenny dresses was a floor-length number in lavender that I wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. So beautiful.

When I leave London I miss that feeling of connectedness and excitement you get from being part of buzz of the city. I also really miss the diversity and the architecture. I take for granted having immediate access to everything I want or need. L

Season three of Bridgerton will be available on Netflix later this year.
