welcome F
inding the dress of your dreams is difficult, and it often requires more time than you might at first imagine. Take it from someone who knows – six boutiques in, the search for my own wedding dress continues. While you look at wedding dresses, there are a few questions to keep in the forefront of your mind. Will you feel at ease in this gown? Can you sit down comfortably? Will you be able to eat your wedding breakfast? Can you stay on the dance floor all night? Will it suit your venue and the season in which you are marrying? The most important person in the room is your groom – will he like the style too? Would your family approve? And – the big one – is this dress in budget? There really is no point in trying on a gown that is completely unaffordable. If you end up loving a dress that is more than you
want to spend, there’s a chance that you won’t find another dress that does fall in budget that you love as much, and no bride should be disappointed like that. Be upfront with the boutiques you visit about your budget and tastes. This will help them to lead you to your perfect dress. In the following pages you will find a whole host of designs to inspire you, which come from different designers across a range of budgets. Featuring the most stylish trends for 2018, including off the shoulder sleeves and detachable trains, you are sure to find a dress you can’t wait to try on. Your dress should offer the perfect balance of current trends and timeless elegance. But the most important thing is that you feel comfortable – wearing something that is perfect for you – and that you look your beautiful bridal best. Enjoy!

Take heed of our DOs and DON’Ts of wedding dress shopping before you start the ourney to find the one
1Wear appropriate underwear
You don’t want to feel uncomfortable in a flimsy bra and thong while the boutique expert is helping you get into different dresses.
2Style your locks
If you are planning on wearing your hair up for your wedding, wear it up to your dress fittings too. We’re not suggesting you go to the salon and have it styled every time you visit a boutique, but having your hair up and out of the way will give you a better picture of how you will actually look on the day.
3Take shoes with the right heel height
This is most important when it comes to measurements for your alterations, but taking the shoes you plan to wear, or some that are the same height, to all of your appointments might help you choose your dress more easily, too.
4Be open minded
You might think you know what style of gown you want, or what you definitely don’t want, but head to your boutique with an open mind. Brides often tell us that they fell in love with a dress that they never thought they would go for.
5Listen to the consultant
The boutiques you visit know their dresses inside out and will instantly know which dresses will flatter your figure, so trust them! They will listen to you when you try each dress on, taking on board what you like and what you don’t. Let them gently guide you and try on their suggestions.
6Take someone you trust with you
Whether its your mum, your maid of honour or future mother in law, make sure the people that join you on your search for your dream dress are going to be honest, practical and listen to your opinions. If you’re not superstitious, you could even take your fiancé!

7Keep your eyes peeled
Keep an eye out for, and consider going to, trunk shows, sample sales and designer days where you might find a dress that never actually makes it into production – meaning you’re the only bride to wear it, ever – or you could grab a bargain in a sample sale.
8
Try on lots of different styles
if alterations can be done at the 13Ask boutique
This will give you time to find a seamstress if you need to and to book them, or to book a slot in at the boutique.
14Ask how to bustle up your train
It’s not always as simple as you might think, and your bridesmaids need to know so that they can help too.
Try on different shapes, styles and designers – you really can’t tell how a dress will look on you from looking at it on the hanger. Once you’ve found a silhouette or designer you love, try gowns with different details so you find the dress that is exactly perfect for you.
the perfume you plan to wear on 15Wear your wedding day
Try the dress on exactly as you would 9wear it on the day
which designers the boutique 16Research stocks before you visit
Once you have whittled down your choices to a couple of dresses, try them on without your bra on if it has built in cups (or if you won’t wear a bra). You need to see how this will look and feel before your wedding morning. Plus, it will make having your measurements taken easier too.
10
Go with your gut
If you really love a dress, even if its not what you were expecting to choose, then go for it!
11Check your colours
Hold up bridesmaid dresses next to the dresses you like. You can see how the colours of bridesmaid dresses look against your own, which is especially important if you aren’t choosing white for yourself.
12Ask if you can take photographs
Some boutiques will be happy for you to take pictures, but they will want you to get the best angles and lighting (as will you!) to get a true reflection of the dress. Other boutiques won’t allow you to take photographs at all, so always make sure you ask.
This way the scent will remind you of all-things wedding related, from start to finish.
This is important for two reasons. Firstly, you don’t want to waste the boutique’s, or your own, time looking at designers you don’t like, and secondly, you need to keep your budget in mind.
17Ask how to store your dress
Do you need to store your gown in a dress box in acid-free paper? Should it be hung up in a dress bag? Or even hung up outside of the bag? Now is the time to check.
18Make dress shopping an event
You’ll only get to experience this once! Stop for tea and cake or cocktails with your best girls afterwards.
with your fiancé’s tastes 19Choose in mind
You want to blow away the most important person there!
20Be honest with the boutique
If you really don’t like something, don’t beat around the bush. It will only result in a longer journey to find the dress that’s right for you.

Too many opinions could confuse you and you might struggle to make decisions.
Take the time you need to make the right decision. You don’t want to feel like you’ve made the wrong choice a few weeks or months down the line.
The same applies to fake tan, too – you don’t want to get any on the dresses you put on.

Your opinion is the most important one, so you need to feel confident in sharing it.

Forget your budget
Beware of booking appointments at high end, designer boutiques if you’re on a tight budget. Being honest about your budget could save you from falling in love with a dress you can’t afford.
Whether it’s the time frame for alterations or for any payment plans, you need to get organised now.

Introducing
We meet the brains behind this new bridal concept to find out how they will shake up the business of buying a dress
LUXE BRIDE
What is Luxe Bride?
How does a shop become a Luxe Bride boutique?
Luxe Bride is an online wedding magazine, blog and members’ club run by boutique owners who are dedicated to setting gold standards in bridal retail.
The name Luxe Bride suggests that our boutiques are for the super rich but simply we deliver affordable luxury with an atelier service. It is not enough that a store has incredible dresses from the world’s best labels; they also offer a fully expert technical fitting service, complimentary styling appointments and a nurturing and inspirational retail environment. Our Luxe Bride members can be young shops fizzing with enthusiasm or the ‘grand dames’ of the industry. The boutiques have their own opinions, tastes and preferences as individual as their bride, but are united in their passion for bridal fashion
Who are the team? The Luxe Bride team comprises of multi award-winning Ellie Sanderson, who has two eponymous boutiques in Beaconsfield and Oxford, Leonie Lawmon, the woman behind Brighton and Hove’s destination boho boutique Leonie Claire and Emma Meek, MD of one of the UK’s oldest bridal boutiques, Miss Bush. Their wealth of retail experience is matched by digital supremo Leah Spicer-Pownall and Katie Ruocco, former Ad Director of Brides magazine.
What makes Luxe Bride different from other wedding dress portals? All of the Luxe Bride boutique members offer highly original, unique retail experiences and the Boutique Finder is about helping brides find the right wedding dress partner to guide them, from browsing to beyond the aisle. Too often we boutique stylists have faced brides-to-be finding themselves in the wrong shops, overwhelmed with information yet lacking straightforward, expert advice. Luxe Bride, with its unique Boutique Finder, allows a bride to search for her perfect boutique, not just by region, but by the kind of experience she wants. Similarly, in a world awash with images, brides trust our strong individual retail brands to deliver a thoughtful edit of the best designer bridal styles. Luxe Bride online is less a catalogue and more a handbook, black book and bible combined. Or, think of it as an in-store magazine for luxury bridal retail, with exclusive features and incredible offers for subscribers.
When is a bride a Luxe Bride? All brides choose dresses that are very ‘them’; all brides have the world at their feet. There is no right or wrong way to shop. In today’s postAmazon world, a bride can shop for convenience, budget or big bucks with 24/7 access at the touch of a button. Luxe Bride boutiques are more like craft gin purveyors. Cool, refined, ‘small-batch’ pieces picked by the passionate for the obsessive! If your taste is niche, if you love a bespoke creation, if you are a detail nerd who wants to nail the perfect accessory or simply you are time poor and want to shop with confidence, you could be a Luxe Bride.
What about Luxe Bride on a budget? Not as much of a contradiction as you might think! Luxe Bride have been working hard on improving the offer to brides across the spectrum and in January Deborah Kidd, an outlet expert, is taking her wealth of designer knowledge and rebranding as Luxe Bride Outlet by Swoon. The boutique will take dresses exclusively from Luxe Bride boutiques so brides can experience ‘luxe for less’ without sacrificing any of the fitting and styling services available on bespoke gowns.
