Works done on Mordialloc Freeway Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au THE Mordialloc Freeway is complete and has been officially opened. The nine-kilometre link between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Aspendale Gardens and the Dingley By-
pass in Dingley Village opened ahead of schedule last weekend. The huge road project ended up costing $523 million to taxpayers. State transport infrastructure minister Jacinta Allan celebrated the road’s long awaited opening, saying “we said that we would deliver the Mordialloc Freeway to slash travel times, reduce congestion and get
thousands of trucks off our local roads – and we can’t wait for it to open on Sunday.” “It’s fantastic to see the new freeway open ahead of schedule and just in time for the summer holidays – allowing drivers in the south east to get home safer and sooner,” she said. Major Roads Project Victoria expressed gratitude to commuters for
dealing with recent works. “A big thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding throughout the project as we’ve constructed the freeway over the past two years,” it said in an email update last week. “The 8km long shared walking and cycling path along the freeway will also open, creating a continuous path from Aspendale Gardens through to

Since then around 800,000 tonnes of recycled and reused materials have been used to complete the project.
