The phased introduction of the design was agreed as part of a money-saving regional collaboration between South West police forces.
Assistant chief constable Kevin Lambert said: "Over four years, these new uniforms will go some way towards helping Gloucestershire Constabulary achieve the vital cost savings it needs.
The group aimed to identify the most appropriate clothing for operational and office based roles and to achieve standardisation and savings.

Contracts exchanged mix of housing and leisure facilities will breathe new life into waste land as plans for the Midwinter site reach a significant milestone. All contracts have now been exchanged and developer, Bloor Homes, has now applied to the council’s planning committee for consent to proceed with its ambitious plans.
A
The new scheme, if approved, will provide up to 176 new homes, including around 70 affordable homes for residents who are unable to gain access to the local housing market. It will create new play areas and public spaces and improve conditions for neighbouring council allotment holders. New allotment space will also be provided at the site and elsewhere in the borough. The scheme represents the very latest thinking in energy efficiency, crime reduction and flood prevention. Councillor John Rawson, cabinet member for built environment welcomes the plans, he said: “This is a tremendous step forward for Cheltenham. We don’t see this simply as a land sale - we see it as an improvement scheme which will bring a large area of under-used land back to life. “I’m particularly excited about this project because I think it is a step towards the major regeneration of Cheltenham that we hope to achieve in the next few years. It will complement a number of other major improvement schemes that are happening across the borough such as St Paul’s which is right next door, as well as North Place and Portland Street which will vastly improve the quality of life for local residents. It is a clear sign to potential investors in Cheltenham that we are determined to take our town forward and secure its future prosperity.” Construction of the access road to the site from Tommy Taylor Lane will be likely to start in August/September and the first of the residential units early in 2012. The development is likely to take three
to four years to complete. The sale proceeds will enable the release of funds for a number of initiatives and area wide improvements to be undertaken, which will include the provision of new allotments, the relocation of Elmfield Road playing fields to the north of the Prince of Wales Stadium and towards the Art Gallery and Museum development. The scheme signifies further confidence being shown by developers in Cheltenham, following the beginning of the regeneration scheme to build 48 affordable units at St Paul’s, in addition to the expression of interest for the provision of a major mixed use development close to the town centre at North Place and Portland Street.

Parabola Arts Centre wins prestigious architecture award The Parabola Arts Centre last night received a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Award at a regional ceremony in Salisbury. IBA has annually, since 1966, recognised buildings which represent architectural excellence and design quality. Designed by Tim Foster of Foster Wilson Architects, the Parabola Arts Centre is a renovated grade II* Regency villa with adjoining 328 seat auditorium built with minimalist contemporary detail.
R
The building also provides teaching space, a dance studio, video-editing suite and art gallery. Part of the Cheltenham Ladies’ College, the Parabola Arts Centre has this year opened to the public, bringing dynamic and innovative work to a new home in the centre of Cheltenham. Cheltenham Ladies’ College Principal, Vicky Tuck said, “Creating the Parabola Arts Centre
was a transformational and exciting project and I continue to be grateful to my colleagues for their hard work. It is very gratifying that a building which we love and which now provides the context for so much of College’s rich cultural and creative life has been recognised with this prestigious RIBA award. I hope that many residents of Cheltenham will enjoy coming to the Parabola Arts Centre either to experience an event in the Festivals programme or to attend our own vibrant theatre season.” Parabola Arts Centre Manager, Allegra Galvin said “We are thrilled to win recognition of the quality of Parabola Arts Centre's architecture and our growing role in the community. Foster Wilson's design is fantastic for students, artists and audiences. We run backstage tours after all our shows and are participating in Heritage Open Days in the autumn, so come and have a look around.”

Wedding Planning Made Simple
Y
our wedding is one of the most important days of your lives, and of course you want it to be special.
The more time you have to plan for your wedding the more finer details can be added, but if you want to be married quickly, some of the extras may need to be left out. There are six basic areas to cover; all of which are important to you and your guests enjoying the day. Once you have the date set, create a budget. Sit down with whoever is paying for your wedding day and have an honest, frank discussion about how much you will be allowed to spend. From there you can decide what is most important to you, the priorities and what can be ignored. Once your budget is set, it is in stone. The beginning of your marriage will go much smoother if you are not arguing with your new spouse, parents, or in-laws over money. Try not to go into debt for your wedding day; you’ll enjoy your wedding so much more if you are not worrying how you are going to make the payments on it.
Now that your budget is created, you’ll need to decide who, what, and where. Who are you going to invite: close family and friends, just family, or your extended family, friends, and acquaintances? Keep in mind that the more people you invite the more expensive your wedding day will be. You will need to find a space that can accommodate the people on your guest list too, so the larger your list is, the larger the space must be, and again the amount of space you are going to rent can cost you a little or a lot. Another consideration is one venue or two; will you have your ceremony and reception together or in different locations? If you are planning on having your ceremony in your church, you will have to have your reception elsewhere; otherwise you can probably have the two on the same premises. Next you are going to want to hire the wedding vendors and service providers will help you make your day special. Rome was not built by one person alone, and neither will your wedding day. Your budget, choice of venue(s), and the type of ceremony you have will determine who you need to help you, but a general list is: a wedding planner/coordinator, stationer, officiant, caterer, deejay/band/other entertainment, florist, wedding photographer, and a car hire company. If your budget is smaller, you will want to cut some of these people out,
and/or do some of the jobs yourselves, but only you can decide which people are indispensable. When hiring these people, be sure to read your contracts carefully, since they may cover areas that will save you money or they may have rules about who they are willing to work with. If you are doing some, or most of the work yourself, do as much as you can ahead of time. Waiting to do a job until the last minute will cause you undue stress and make your wedding day seem like a chore and not a joy. Also be sure to recruit help; doing a job with friends and family is always more fun than by yourself, and the work goes quicker with many hands instead of just two. Remember, what your wedding day is like is entirely is up to you, it’s your day after all. Taking the stress out of the day is easy if you plan things well in advance. You now know the basics to a wedding, so make a budget and a checklist, and make your day yours.

Whaddon homes to benefit from flood protection Council wins grant for 24 properties wenty four homes in the Whaddon area will benefit from flood protection measures, as Cheltenham Borough Council is awarded £102,200 to fund the work. Homeowners who have experienced repeated internal flooding will receive the help so that their properties are protected from future flooding events.
T
The funding is being provided in the form of government grants by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Local authorities were invited to submit applications for the support and DEFRA, together with the Environment Agency made the final decisions about which applications were successful. Cheltenham was the only local authority in the county to receive an award on this occasion. Examples of the work that may be carried out within individual properties include such things as: flood resistant gates; water resistant external doors; sealing of floors; raised electrical sockets/television points; raising of white goods and flood resilient kitchens with freestanding removable units; airbrick covers; and pump systems to extract flood water. Money may also go
towards garden landscaping to divert floodwaters away from buildings and improvements to the drainage of properties. Geoff Beer, principal engineer said: ‘’We are delighted to have received this funding particularly in light of the national demand for the limited available grant aid. The money will mean that the eligible homeowners can protect their properties against the devastation that flooding causes. We know that homes in this area have been badly affected by severe weather in the past.’’ Councillor John Rawson, cabinet member for built environment added: "This is good news for people in one of the most floodprone parts of the town, and it is a credit to the council's officers that they have been able to persuade the Government to give us this money. Flooding brings so much misery and heartache as well as physical damage, and I hope these works will give the householders the protection and peace of mind they deserve." Homeowners in flood risk areas in Whaddon were contacted by the council and asked if they were interested in participating in the scheme. They were asked to provide evidence that previous flooding events had occurred through for example, letters from insurance companies, associated invoices for repair work and date-stamped photographs or newspaper articles.

MOTORING NEWS
all new Hyundai Infiniti ices the ex cake The i40 Tourer offers customers exceptional value for money
T
he SUV standard-setter for standard equipment, the Infiniti EX, is more fully featured than ever from this summer. In a mid-year specification adjustment, every EX apart from the entry-level EX30d now comes with Infiniti’s sophisticated Connectiviti+ navigation and entertainment platform and a premium Bose® audio system, among other changes.
The revisions confirm the mid-grade GT model in particular as one of the most complete cars in its class – without recourse to the expensive options beloved by the EX’s rivals. In addition to Connectiviti+ and Bose® audio, GT models in either EX37 petrol or EX30d diesel form are now equipped with 19-inch wheels – as standard.
The new features join an already impressive list of equipment on every GT model – leather trim, heated, electrically adjustable front seats and electrically adjustable steering column included. These are all in addition to signature EX features – such as intelligent all-wheel-drive, 7-speed automatic transmission, Xenon cornering headlights and electrically foldable rear seat bench – standard on every EX including the entry-level EX30d.
There are upgrades too for the GT Premium, the EX range’s technology flagship. Already equipped with Connectiviti+ and some of the most advanced safety systems yet developed – including Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) – GT Premium models from 1 June will also feature as standard an electrically operated glass sunroof as well as premium Bose® audio and 19-inch wheels.
In other EX news, every model in the range is now available with the paint option of Malbec Black, latest metallic Scratch Shield finish which was first available on the M saloon. The changes represent the icing on the EX cake and reflect customers’ desire for top spec models, a trend Infiniti has seen in all of its ranges since Japan’s newest performance luxury brand first arrived in Europe almost three years ago. Prices of the latest EX models start from £37,130 for the EX30d V6 diesel with 406 lb ft of torque for performance every bit as powerful as its coupé inspired looks. Connectiviti+ is a state-of-the-art platform of information and entertainment functions designed to work seamlessly together for maximum user friendliness. The navigation, powered by a 30GB hard disk drive, includes features such as voice recognition, 3D graphics of junctions and points of interest on the high-resolution touch-screen display, and, uniquely, direct access to Michelin’s Green and Red Guides for tourist and hotel/restaurant information. Entertainment functionality centres on a 10GB Music Box that can store up to 300 CDs, all tracks clearly labelled thanks to the Gracenote® music database integrated into the HDD. Concert hall reproduction is delivered by a Bose® 11-speaker Premium Sound System. Other features that some rival makes charge extra for – such as a USB port, DVD movie playback, Bluetooth for hands-free mobile phone use and audio streaming – are all part of the high-tech package.
