Jamie cullum is like family at cheltenham Jazz festival. With his passion for music and insatiable desire to discover the brightest new things on the jazz scene he always brings something special to the programme.

Gregory Porter made such an impression on us all last year we had to have him back, this time as artist in residence!

this year he has chosen an eclectic selection of artists for his festival picks. these include saxophonist ravi coltrane (p.19), stylish jazzpop duo noisettes (p.23), BBc Sound of 2013 artist laura Mvula (p.16), Georgie fame, who is appearing in a special friday night is Music night celebration (p.17), and singing sensation Gregory Porter (p.22).

JAzz it uP! Over the Bank Holiday weekend 10 of the county’s brightest school jazz bands will perform in our annual extravaganza, Jazz it up! look out for these talented young musicians on the free Stage from 10.45am-1.15pm on Saturday and Sunday.

the jazz kitchen New for 2013 the Jazz Festival is working with renowned Cotswold caterers Williams Kitchen at Calcot to create The Jazz Kitchen, a unique ‘pop-up’ restaurant which will open its doors at the heart of the Jazz Festival site in Montpellier Gardens for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Themed cocktails, specially chosen wines and a fixed price lunch and evening menu with five choices per course will be available. The gourmet treats on offer include Gloucestershire smoked chicken and mango salad, marinated Cotswold lamb cutlets and a confit of Madgetts duck with puy lentils and locally smoked wild boar sausages. All the menus have been designed with a concert-goer in mind and can be served in less than an hour. the great swing trumpeter Buck clayton made his reputation in the cut-throat jam sessions and all-night blues clubs of 1930s kansas city. in this new project, the Buck clayton Legacy Band are joined by the celebrated american blues singer Michael roach, himself a resident of cheltenham, and will be delving into that kansas city Blues Legacy. expect to hear a new spin on such blues classics as sent for You Yesterday, see see rider and Goin’ to chicago.
