Welcome to The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival for Schools Programme 2022. This year’s Festival kicks off with three digital creative writing workshops in September before we welcome you to our Festival Village on Montpellier Gardens from 7–16 October for the second year of our Read the World theme. Come and be inspired by a host of fantastic authors and illustrators including Rob Biddulph, Emma Carroll, Joseph Coelho, Jenny McLachlan, Pooja Puri, S F Said, Nick Sharratt and many more. After your event, make sure to have your questions ready when you head over to the Waterstones Children’s Bookshop to meet the author. This year, we’ve also got a variety of workshops on offer to boost the imaginative superpowers and creative writing skills of your pupils. There’s something for everyone; from writing wildly with Sophie Kirtley, creating a new superhero with Alex Falase-Koya or channelling your inner poet with Laura Mucha. Between our ticketed events, check out our free bookable storytelling sessions or hit the Global News Trail, courtesy of our fantastic guest curators, The Week Junior. Finally, if you’re looking to reinvigorate reading for pleasure in your school, be sure to sign up for our Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils Conference on Tuesday 11 October (see page 9 for details). We believe when teachers read, pupils read. Cheltenham Festivals’ Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils (RTRP) programme has been running for seven years, annually reaching 9,000 pupils across the country through a network of teachers’ reading groups. Join us for a conference that will empower and equip delegates to bring books to life in the classroom. A host of authors and literacy experts will contribute to a day of professional development centred on reading for pleasure. With keynotes, a panel discussion on Reading the World and a choice of workshops led by literacy organisations, researchers and writers, the programme offers a holistic approach to inspiring young people to read. Aimed at Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 practitioners, whether you are a senior leader, NQT, experienced classroom teacher or librarian, the RTRP conference will give you the tools and practical ideas to refresh your practice, engage your pupils, and ignite their love of reading. HOW TO BOOK How do I book tickets? Go to cheltenhamfestivals.com/learning-participation/literature-for-schools and complete the booking form. Booking opens at 8am on Tuesday 14 June 2022. Please note that a £5 booking fee will be applied to each booking. Terms and conditions apply.

Is there a bookable lunch space? We offer 20-minute lunch slots in our covered picnic area in the Festival Village for a limited number of schools. Please request a reservation on your booking form and we will accommodate as many as we can.

What happens next? 1. We will review your booking form and be in touch to discuss alternative options if any of your choices are not available. 2. You will receive a formal booking confirmation via email. Further details will be sent for webinar bookings. 3. F or free bookable events, we will accommodate as many groups as we can. Please note that places are limited and will be allocated as fairly as possible. 4. P lease notify us of changes to your numbers as a result of fluctuations in class size by 9 September 2022 and we will do our best to accommodate them. 5. Your school finance office will receive an invoice after 9 September 2022. It is important this invoice is paid before you attend the Festival. 6. We will be back in touch in September with your ticket document and further information about the facilities on site.
