Town Hall, Main Stage £6.50 per pupil Demos and dancing collide as science songwriter and physics teacher Jonny Berliner brings to life the history behind one of the deepest ideas in science. Meet figures from history such as Marie Curie and James Joule, play real-life Angry Birds, find out how much energy you are storing in your body, and use some of it to dance along to infectiously catchy SciTunes that will stick in your memory as strongly as a superconducting electromagnet!

Workshop: The Incredible Ocean Laboratory Apollo £7.50 per pupil For groups of 30–35 pupils. Oceanographer Russell Arnott is bringing his marine lab to Cheltenham to reveal the fascinating world of marine chemistry. Build a saltwater battery, create exotic gases, repurpose unrecyclable plastics, find secrets in seaweed, and see how climate change is impacting the acidity of our oceans in this interactive workshop. You’ll be amazed at how much chemistry is happening beneath the waves. 6

Over a million years ago, insects got stuck on sticky tree sap. Today, their remains can tell us so much about the forgotten ecosystems on Planet Earth. But could finds like these help us bring back extinct animals? And is this even ethical? In this interactive workshop led by zoology correspondent and author Jules Howard, get your hands on more than 3,000 fossils as you search for never-before-seen insects trapped in prehistoric Madagascan amber. From plastic clothing to recyclable shoes and 3D-printed climbing gear, the mechanics behind the kit we wear to travel across the globe is just as fascinating as the places it allows us to explore. Along with adventurer Huw James, prepare to learn all about the wonderful science behind our gadgets – you might even become a gear geek too. What happens if you pitch shift a ruler? What does a backwards clap sound like? How can a rustling crisp packet transform into a raging forest fire? Discover the science behind sound with the pyka_loop app. Play with pitch, reverse, amplify and merge notes to create melodies and soundscapes. No musical knowledge required.

Nothing is ever as it seems… at least when it comes to the world of nanotechnology. Explore the unknown with Jamie Gallagher and unearth the tiny tech that is changing our phones, food, sport and health. In a world where pencils are stronger than steel and robots become doctors, what else will you discover in this hidden world? 10

Even for a master coder, it’s hard to hide information online. When someone moves through cyber space they leave a trail of information ‘breadcrumbs’ for others to find and use. But what if that person is up to no good? Can you stop them? Put your detective hat on and go digital with the Lockheed Martin team to learn all about cyber security and predict their next move.

We will work with teachers to tailor the session to suit their particular group of children. Have you ever touched a cloud? Can we make a cloud that tastes of strawberries?! Join Sarah Bearchell to feel, see, hear, smell and taste clouds made from dry ice. Make predictions and marvel at the results in this deliciously delightful hands-on show. Careers within science, technology, engineering and maths are constantly increasing in number and variety. Today’s teenagers are the future experts and inventors in cybertech, genomics, smart materials and entire fields that don’t exist yet. In this morning of intriguing talks and fascinating demonstrations, scientist Jamie Gallagher introduces a stellar line-up of individuals working in a range of STEM fields. These leading inspirational scientists include, among others: • Sophia McCall, cyber security consultant • Stefan Gates, professional ‘gastronaut’ and television presenter • Dawood Qureshi, writer, journalist and film-maker Enjoy visiting our partner zones over lunch and round off your day with a dedicated KS4 session in the Discover Zone. What happens next? 1. We will review your booking form and will be in touch to discuss alternative options if any of your choices are unavailable. 2. You will receive a formal booking confirmation via email. 3. Please notify us of changes to your numbers as a result of fluctuations in class size by Tuesday 26 April and we will do our best to accommodate these changes. 4. Your school finance office will receive an invoice by Friday 6 May. It is important that this is paid before you attend the Festival. 5. You will receive a ticket document, a site map and an information document with important details about your visit. Please ensure that every accompanying adult has a copy of these documents when attending. 6. If you have booked a webinar, you will receive information on how to join and what pupils will need to take part one week before your webinar is due to take place.

Is there a bookable lunch space? We can offer a 30-minute lunch slot in the covered picnic area in the Festival Village for a limited number of pupils. Please request a reservation on your booking form and we will accommodate as many groups as we can.
