WELCOME to The Cheltenham Trust’s What’s On guide for January to June 2025 which highlights the exciting schedule of events at Cheltenham Town Hall, Pittville Pump Room, The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum and Leisure at Cheltenham.
Whether it’s music, entertainment, comedy, exhibitions and workshops, children’s sports fun or community events, The Cheltenham Trust offers something for everyone to enjoy.
A new feature for 2025 is the trust’s Live and Local gigs, celebrating and showcasing the wealth of local new and emerging musical talent, giving local bands, musicians and acts the opportunity to perform on stage at Cheltenham Town Hall, and bringing live music to audiences.
Comedy is a popular feature at the town hall and there’s another strong line-up this season with Andy Zaltzman, Jimmy Carr, Chris McCausland, Maisie Adam, Jason Manford, Ben Elton, Robert Beckett, Dara O’Briain, Rhod Gilbert and Danny Baker. There’s also the popular monthly comedy club nights at Pittville Pump Room to enjoy.
The season’s spoken word events include ultra endurance athlete Sean Conway; chef, restauranteur, TV presenter and well-known Cornishman Rick Stein, and The Makings of A Murderer 2 with grim insights into some of the UK’s most chilling murders.
There’s music for all tastes from Northern Soul to Status Quo legend Francis Rossi, Jason Donovan, Martin Kemp, Tony Blackburn to Lee Memphis King, Haircut 100 and The Drifters. And for the dance fans, professional dancers Gorka Marquez and Karen Hauer from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing bring their new show, Speakeasy.
Classic lovers are in for a treat too with concerts by the English Symphony Orchestra, German National Orchestra, and the Bristol Classical Players.

The concert is about partnerships and collaborations, demonstrated most clearly by the performance of Brahms Double Concerto. It’s a fabulous work and a perennial favourite. Music analysts have declared that it requires brilliant, equally matched players so this performance by a partnership of two world class soloists will be a rare treat.

The concert explores three different aspects of wild romanticism; Strauss’s tone poems deal with both vigour and, ultimately, pathos as the eponymous protagonist meets his comeuppance. While Four Last Songs reflects on a life well lived, with a sense of calmness and acceptance. Mendelssohn’s Scottish symphony completes the trio of works for this concert.

CSO welcomes CBSO’s Michael Seal as guest conductor for this concert of Dramatic Moments. Tchaikovsky perfectly encapsulated the violence, drama and anguish of the Romeo and Juliet tragedy in this overture. The Wilson is working towards the reopening of the Victorian wing with the help of the community. Throughout 2025 a series of events, community workshops and the launch of the Test Space interactive exhibition will be held.

The Wilson hosts The Cheltenham Improvisers Orchestra, a friendly group for people who enjoy experimenting with improvised music. You don’t need an instrument to join, but if you have one, please bring it along. No experience necessary and new members of all abilities are welcome, whether amateur or professional.

Join one of The Wilson’s curators for a lunchtime chat, and be introduced to one of the collection’s objects in the comfort of The Wilson Kitchen. Experience a closer look at the objects currently in the stores and find out more about their provenance and relevance today.

This spring The Wilson hosts Bees in Common, an exhibition co-curated by WE Create Cheltenham, the University of Gloucestershire, and residents of the neighbourhoods of St Peter’s and St Paul’s. Craftivism is the gentle art of protest. It uses craft to convey a courteous message with the aim of making the world a better place. Bring any project or come and be inspired by others. This group aims to be a creative space for crafters to work collaboratively on projects that make meaningful change within the community.

Curated by artist and folklorist Ben Edge, Common Ground will take audiences on a visual journey through historic objects and artworks from The Wilson’s permanent collection as well recent works from contemporary artists, singers and morris dancers, whose creative outputs explore relationships with land and access.
