MORRISON ACADEMY CAMPUS 2019 NEW TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN

DESCRIPTION

Morrison Academy is an international Christian school in Taiwan with four campuses in Taipei, Chiayi, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. This project for the new site in New Taipei city plans to have five buildings include two gyms, classroom buildings, faculty housing, and a soccer field. The architectural concept is to make a smooth form and to use the local materials such as red brick with metal to have a modern learning space. I joined the team after the schematic design and worked from design development, detail design to construction document phases. I usually need to collaborate and communicate with the professions of landscape designers, structural engineers, electrical engineers, etc‌ and have meetings with the client, superintendent of the school, to get the building permit and pass the urban design review.

M HOUSE - INTERIOR DESIGN 2019 TAOYUAN, TAIWAN

DESCRIPTION

This is an interior project for an apartment for newlyweds. The clients need a storage place and a welcoming place for friends. The main idea is to open the small room and the kitchen to create a sharing area. The shelves are multifunction-designed: the double-side volume between kitchen and entrance, the seating beside the windows, and also the hiding door to the private area. The different heights of the ceiling are also used as an element to define the entrance and dining place.

THE SHELTER 2020 AOMORI, JAPAN

DESCRIPTION

Aomori, as for considering the snowiest landscape in the world, the height of the snow could reach 7-8 meters in snow season. The shelter provides a minimum space for storage and personal hygiene and creates a big flat roof for a semi-opened area, when the shelter is covered with snow, it will form a room of the walls made by snow. This project worked with the course, Work Method and Draft Project, from Fran Silvestre Architects, and produced the final image with Drawing Architecture workshop with Studio Agraph. From a simple design concept to a proposal, I learned how to use a professional way to present the ideas, how to use the proper presentation language to emphasize the tension of the space in a short period of time.

THE MEMORY OF MONK 2019 CAPE ESPICHEL, PROTUGAL

DESCRIPTION

‘ Walking on the pedestrian path in Cape Espichel, I reach the top of São Domingos da Baralha fortress. A modest architecture coexists with the ruins. To the left of the dilapidated arch, there is a concrete ramp leading to the first look-out point. While the thick wall is getting higher, I feel sunken into the ground. A bench is right designed to sit down for the gaze at the first light from the sea. Before going down to the monastery area, there is a small sign in the space, where the rocks come through the concrete, to separate the people who just visit. I feel serene when I go down to the dining area. A wood frame of the sliding door just captures the view of the powerful natural scenery to emphasize the landscape of the Atlantic coastline. If you go closer, you can feel the ruins up out there. The space of the kitchen, storage cabinets and cells of the dormitory are for four people. There are also shared bathrooms on the opposite of the aisle. To the end, there is a meeting area with a similar view from the look-out point face the cliff.Back upstairs, a narrow long ramp tunnel is built under the ground leading to the inner space surrounded by concrete walls to feel the intimacy of the space. The only opening is where the skylight comes through and changes as the time pass away. After the inner space and out of the towering cliffs, you can find another exit to the lower part of the fortress ruin, here is another sight of the expansive ocean views. Baralha Fortress Monastery incorporates with the remains, create a new experiencing route to the second look-out point, where Chã dos Navegantes could be seen.’ Honorable mentions on Arkxsite Competition Team Chen Hsin Chang Wei Ying Lu 22

FARM TO TABLE APARTMENT 2019 TAIPEI, TAIWAN

DESCRIPTION

The four or five floor-apartment is the most common building type to see in Taipei’s alley. They are attached with a small staircase to connects to each unit, however, it creates a boundary between neighbors. Due to the environmental and food safety issue, people start to keep edible plants on private balcony or roof. We aim to take advantage of the concept of “Farm to Table” and “Urban Agriculture” to break the boundary. The concept is that every unit provides its living room and kitchen to share with others. The corridor also makes several public farming terraces into circulation instead of the closed staircase. Plants can be placed according to their different need of duration of sunshine. There will be better ventilation and sufficient lighting for the apartment, and also make a place to communicate with neighbors. I also improved the 2D drawing during the course of Architectural Project with Fran Silvestre Architects. With this practice, I understood the drawing system and layer logic from different countries.

TOURING EXHIBITION - FRANK M. H. WU: A RETROSPECTIVE 2015 TAIPEI, TAINAN AND TAITUNG, TAIWAN

DESCRIPTION

Frank Min Hsiu Wu (1934-2014) was an important architect who had a great contribution on Post-War Architecture in Taiwan in 1950s. He also founded the Taiwan Toilet Association in 1999, after his experience in Man & Environment Association and Japan Toilet Association in Japan. This Exhibition took place in three cities in Taiwan. Especially the city, Taitung, which is the hometown of the architect. Work with the professors and who also are the curators, we made a research on Wu’s architectural works during his life, remade some of the models and reorganised his contributions and published to the public. About the exhibitions, we focused on how to fit three different galleries easily. So we choose the modular sizes of storyboard and put the 13 selected works in chronology. RE-INSPIRED CONTRAPTIONS - BROCHURE DESIGN 2016 TAINAN, TAIWAN

DESCRIPTION

sKY_Associative is a design- and education-based studio in the Department of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University. Initiated by Prof. Kane Yanagawa. Re-Inspired Contraptions event series included three workshops and several lectures. I joined the staff team to work on the graphic and photograph the first two events. The brochure is designed in a more hand-making way, to represent the assembly intention of the 3D printer workshop. We chose a common blue photocopy paper and use the red line graph to make a delightful comparison.
