I found that the drone can still fly more than twenty minutes when carrying more than 400g loading. It makes using drone for traffic regulation become more practical. The diameter of the drone is 450mm Battery: 2500 mah 11.1v

The radiator is made of aluminum, which releases the heat quickly. But the radiator part could let the drone become heavier and shorten the ying time.

The height of drone can be exactly the same as the traffic light, which makes it to be recognized easily by the car drivers. By connecting to the command center, the traffic drone can direct the traffic swiftly. When it recieved the order from the command center, it can change the colour of the lights immediately. Moreover, the commander can also see the view through the camera of the drone, which makes him give the order more efficiently. More importantly, the drone can arrive at the scene as quickly as possible. So that the traffic jam caused by the traffic light failure won’t get worse. Police can save a lot of efforts in dealing with the problem caused by signal malfunction.

STRUCTURE ANALYZING

Hot melt glue gun, a quick and convenient tool, is widely used by people. Since it performs well on gluing many different materials, it is loved by both DIYers and professional workers. However, there are some problems with this tool. The first problem is that the path of glue is hard to control, which makes the precise work becomes almost impossible. Moreover, I find that if using the glue gun for a long time, my hand becomes tired. That’s caused by the repeatedly triggering. Thirdly, the glue gun is quite inconvenient when it is used on a level surface.

Testing The Effectiveness The result shows that using the step motor to control the glue stick is an effective way. By pressing the button on the electronic board, user can control the glue stick rolling evenly and orderly, which is just needed in a hot-melt glue gun. Furthermore, the speed of the motor is also adjustable, which can meet the needs of many different situations. With this system, users do not need to spend great effort to get the glue out.

Find The Better Form For Glue-gun

MODEL MAKING To find the best form of Straight-form glue-gun, I create five different models which based on three typical structure. Using the Pu as material, I can reshape the models and feel the real touch easily.

CREATE THE PROTOTYPE

WIRE POSITION

After refining the models for over three times, I finally got the form that can both fit the inside structure and have the best user experience. (The pictures below show the evolution of the form.)

The step motor can control the velocity of flow easily. So I decide to using a roll button to adjust the speed. By dialling the button, user can get the stable feeding speed they need.

Metro, as the most important public transportation in Shanghai, serves more than 2 million people everyday. This project focuses on improving the experience of passengers by redesigning the handrail.

OBSERVATIONS To know the real situation of the Shanghai metro, we spent 2 days in the subway to observe the passengers’ behavior. Line-2, the most crowded line in Shanghai, became our target. By surveying the passengers and taking photos, we hope to find the pain points and get some insights.

“ What kind of problems or embarrassed situation have you encountered on the subway? ” Interview the passengers on a line randomly

OBSERVATIONS To know the real situation of the Shanghai metro, we spent 2 days in the subway to observe the passengers’ behavior. Line-2, the most crowded line in Shanghai, became our target. By surveying the passengers and taking photos, we hope to find the pain points and get some insights.

By both investigating on the Internet and the real site, we analysed different handrials in three aspects: Space of grip, Comfort degree of leaning and Rationality of position.

We made a brain storm to get different forms of handrials. Inspired by the form of DNA, we decided to design the handrail in such form. Because it can fit our requirements well. The ventilation part on the top of the handrail helps reducing the feeling of congestion when it is crowded.

By both investigating on the Internet and the real site, we analysed different handrials in three aspects: Space of grip, Comfort degree of leaning and Rationality of position.

We made a brain storm to get different forms of handrials. Inspired by the form of DNA, we decided to design the handrail in such form. Because it can fit our requirements well. The ventilation part on the top of the handrail helps reducing the feeling of congestion when it is crowded.

We designed an experiment, which can directly show the comfortability when people lean on the handrail. Comparing it with the traditional one made us learn the advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, warned by the passenger, we decided to test whether children’s head might be stuck in the handrail.

“ LEANING TEST ” There is no significant difference between the marks of the new form and the traditional one when we lean on one rod. However, it is difficult to find a comfortable position for leaning on both of the rods.

The new handrail provides more grabbing section, which is twice as many as the old one. People feel comfortable and relax when using the handrail. They won’t meet the embarrassment of touching other’s hands.

Even when some one lean on the handrail, others can still have enough space to grab. Because of the special designed form, it is impossible to find a comfortable position to lean on both rods.


Ventilation During the rush hour, the ventilation in the metro is usually poor. We want to take advantage of the gap between the handrail to air-conditioner. The air ow can be led by the turbo fan from the air-conditioner.

Current Line Graph Current line graph shows that the currency is blocked at the door because the position of handrials is not proper. After all, we all know that people prefer to stay near the handrails.

This project mainly focuses on these problems by trying to find a new way of communication on the road.

REACTION

To find out whether the product will be more efficient than the traditional horn, I put the prototype on the bike to conduct the test. The whole experiment is flimed by the camera on the bike.

People react quicklier when they hear the new horn than the traditional one. By checking the video carefully, I find that their expression change when they hear the new horn which might means they can feel the emotion of the horn. Because normally people do not show any expression when they hear the horn. People’s reaction shows that the new horn is more effective in attracting their attention than the traditional one.

DEVELOPMENT Cloth For Umbrella Coat

The prototype umbrella is difficult to use

To find the material for the umbrella coating, we went to the biggest cloth market in Shanghai. We want to find the cloth that can both be elastic and seal the water. Fortunately, there is a material that meet our needs. Normally, the elastic cloth is not waterproof beacause the holes on the cloth will be enlarged during stretching. But after adding a special layer on the back of the cloth, it can be waterproof. This cloth is the best choice for making umbrella coat.

Even though the new umbrella coat can seal the water successfully, we find that it is very difficult to operate. The tight coat is arduous to use and the lid part is dropped almost every time.

Refine The Model Since the prototype fail to meet the goal, we decide to refine the project in three parts. First, the lid is easily dropped. Solution must be find to prevent it from being dropped. Secondly, the new umbrella needs a better cloth for the coat. Thirdly, a better way of seal should be found to replace screwing.

Considering the fact that many people on public transportation are in a hurry, a disassembled lid is easy to lose and hard to use. We tried to combine the lid with the handle of the umbrella.

These pictures show the process of making the umbrella coat. Inspired by the lid of bottle, we try to use rubber to make the lid for umbrella. The flexibility of rubber can prevent the coat from getting out as well as allows the user to put in the coat. When a passenger needs to pass through, the attendants could press the button on the handle. Then, the magnet ring connecting the handle and the body will automatically disengage, thus separating the trolley into two parts. Now, as long as the attendants push the two parts along the aisle in opposite direction, enough space can be spared for passing through.
