COLLEGE AVE & CITY HALL PLAZA

Public spaces and livable downtown area are needed for City Hall plaza and college avenue. The idea is providing a living street that leads people from north campus to City Hall plaza and enhances the walkability of downtown area. The concept of free flow comes from the concern of relationship between environment and us. Extended sidewalks for the 2 blocks of College Ave accommadates the need of passing by pedestrian, sitting down people and shoppers. The nice green buffersbetween lanes and sidewalks are provided.

The City Hall plaza extends the free flow from College Avenue, which catches eyes of passing by people. The vision is guided by curved paving and aligned trees to City Hall building. The front steps provide open seating area which welcome citizens. There are variable possibilities of the front steps like lunch space, stage for events, shade space, sitting area. Water feature that is opposite to City Hall defines the edge of the bank, and also enhances the interaction between people and site.

Opening the front of City Hall and turning this block into Woonerf creates the unrestricted pedestrain movement and open public spaces for different useres. Big stairs and terraces infront stands out the mass of front building and facilitates sittings. Water featrues around City Hall are for eye catching nodes. More open areas at the back of City Hall like lawn and hardpaving allow opportunities for gathering in both small and large groups. The block of College Ave between Clayton and Washington St moves the focus off the tall building on 2 sides, which invites users to a less shaded but more sunny site with nice view to City Hall and sittings.

Pedestrian-Oriendted Street Intersection/ Nodes Civic/ Sybolic spine Green street Major Vehicular Street Primary Greenway

Oconee Complex is surrounded by East Broad Street, Foundary Street, Wilkerrson Street and the Proposed rail corridor, the Firefly Trail. It’s a mixed use development, including commercial, business, residential uses and outdoor public areas. The concept is generated by the ‘Magic Square’ and the potential connection between downtown and multiple feasible opportunities. The site itself becomes an interchange space which would allow interactions between energy, people and substance. Pedestrian-friendly orientated design provides both customers and merchants maximum fluidity and utilizes public spaces. The main Entrance is at the north, attached by maint street, to linkage plaza and then central plaza. The skywalk system not only appreciates the terrain of the site, but also cares about inclusive design.

Lyndon House Sculpture Garden is designed for 6 modern sculptures focusing on communication and interaction between human, sculpture and environment, which makes people think about relationship between us and environment. In order to create dynamix and urban look for the sculpture garden, irregular form is chosen for the plan layout. After shifting the deep slope in the north, the hight decreases gradually. Abd because of that, the different hight provides several niches and spaces, which is goog for several kind of activities. The main sculpture Bokjari located at the visual center of the garden attracts visitors attention with the magic reflection

The concept is about green growth and creative architectural transformation of Xuhui Riverside. When the city develops to a certain level with a more extended field and gradually changing its roles, the old industry base of the original city certainly need to be changed. The old riverside industry base of Xujiahui District now is facing with problem. Xuhui old industry base is located on a riverside site of Huangpu River, next to Shanghai World EXPO. On account of that the block was an old industry base, there are a lot of plants. The Xiaomuqiao district where the design base lies lost popularity and vitality. Besides, the still existing plants are abandoned and are necessary to be retrofitted .

Nowdays, most of the existing industrial buildings renovate into art centers, parks, Cultural and creative area their synthesis, but the transformation to office buildings is not the focus of the study. How to make both plant transformation have industry characteristics and architectural, interior and landscape more open and more flexible office is the goal. Therefore pollution problems of the plants need to be solved, and what’s more the change is also required to make the plant more environmentally friendly. In the face of the problems of design base, by understanding the process of plant succession,

Through ‘the green’ growth into the building and changing the interface of the construction space, the construction of indoor and outdoor environment revitalizes from being discarded. ‘The Green’ with the green slope form extends from the outside to inside of the building, and at last pierces through. The green slope grows to the third floor, which blurs the boundaries of indoor and outdoor space.
