An Experiment of Stray Cat Utopia in Urban Village
Year: Year 3 | 6th Semester
Date: April 24th, 2020
Location: ShangHai,China
Type: Personal Work | Architecture Design
Role: Individual Work
Supervisor: Junqiao Li | Researcher from Research Institute of Building Sciences
Site: Dinghai Community, Dinghai Road, Yangpu District, Shanghai.
Human→Cat
Dinghai Community is one of the most typical Chinese urban village areas. Urban village is a kind of cluttered place that does not fit in with the urban landscape. Urban villages are characterized by old age, high building density, serious private construction and poor infrastructure. Its multiple nature of land intertwined, in the process of urban renewal, it is at any time swallowed by the city demolition, but also at any time from grows new from the city.
Probably the most nostalgic feature of the urban village is that there is no urban community better suited for cats. This multi-class combined village is providing a different kind of diversity and adaptability for non-human creatures.
Humans often build urban ecosystems in consideration of only the human scale, ignoring the experiences of other species. Stray cats are either born here or abandoned by humans, and they cause many social and ecological problems, such as the cat fever.
The survival of stray cats in the city is worrying, as many cats die of starvation in winter and are often maimed by people or cars on daily basis. The survival space of cats in the city is mostly in the cracks, such as under the car, in the bushes, in the garbage cans and in the abandoned buildings.
Solving the problem of stray cats in urban villages can be an experiment to explore the adaptability of urban non-personal species.
The architecture acts as a catalyst to intervene and exert influence on the urban space with its own power. In a spatial scene where the human is the absolute protagonist, we made the stray cats be the leading role instead of humans, and the created building will act as a new object symbol to establish a new space in the urban space creating new tension. The interaction between human and cat is also generated during the period.

Morphogenesis of the Survival Units
Based on the cat's own characteristics and the specific living scenario of stray cats in the city, eight cat living units based on the scale of cats are constructed. In order to adapt to the complex and diverse space of the urban village, the parasitic architecture is adopted to adapt to the changing scale of the urban village space with the modular assembly of different numbers of units. Each modular unit is 900mm in length to build a living space suitable for cats.

Four Typical Spaces in Different Locations
This type exists between the buildings, leaving three units empty at the bottom for the daily passage of the inhabitants, and connecting different roofs at the top.
This type uses tiny components to create a relationship with the original beams and columns of the abandoned building, growing with the original building structure as skeleton.

This type of the cat building in the open space grows around the open space and leaves a pathway at the bottom for people to walk into the green space.
The buildings on the roof follow the stepped hills that are created as the height of the roof changes.

6
This is the place where people and cats interact most frequently and where they can come from downstairs to observe their every move. The remaining roof and building skin provide shelter for cats in winter, thus greatly reducing the chance of accidental death.

Milan Abandoned Railroad Layout
In order to achieve the renaissance of Milan, the government has developed the Milan 2030 plan to renovate seven abandoned railroads in Milan. The design site is located in Porta Genova, Milan.
1.The essence of railroads is to connect and move, being an infrastructure network for the transport of people and goods.
2. Meanwhile, rails provide political, economic and cultural links between various cities.
3. The renovation of railroads should be transformed from vehicle-oriented to green and pedestrian-friendly.
This area is famous for its nightlife, rich in fashion and natural resources, with several historical sites around the area. However, most of the resources in the site are closed and exclusive, and there are few open spaces for the public. The existing major traffic arteries and parks are not connected north-south.

Agent Based Simulations
Considering a square as a cell with living and dead states, they automatically change their living and dead states according to their own rules, which is the metacellular automaton. Its rules are: there are eight cells around a cell, if three of these cells are alive, the state will change to alive regardless of whether the central cell is alive or dead; if two cells around the central cell are alive, their life and death states will remain unchanged; in other cases, the central cell state will change to dead. According to the rules of the game of life, the initial cell placed at the high value of GPS signal in the field will automatically diffuse a new pattern as the result.
Through the combination of high and low data of GPS signal strength, light radiation intensity and line of sight accessibility, three different functional partitions are divided. On this basis, the public space and the main building space are divided through the simulation of metacellular automata. Because the space generated under the definition of meta-automata rules will be a kind of space that is not overcrowded and not too empty, it can be regarded as a more dynamic public space with suitable human flow selected by the machine.

03-The Future Home of 2050
Exploration of Portable Modular Housing that Changes with User Needs
Year: Year 5 | 9th Semester
Date: September 15th, 2022
Location: Future Living Community, China
Type: Academic Work | Architecture Design
Role: Individual Work Supervisor: Junqiao Li | Researcher from Research Institute of Building Sciences
Home is a topic that can never be bypassed in people's life. With the change of history, some functional attributes of home have been decomposed and reorganized, people's life scope has been different from home, the function and structure of home has been changed, the old function of home is no longer limited to the physical domain of home, but exists in the whole range of people's life. Social changes lead to the separation of people's work and life and the widening of the gap between rich and poor. The future home needs a home that is mobile, affordable, and can meet people's different needs over time.
23
24
The Definition of Home
Home is not only a physical sphere, but also a sense of emotional belonging. Applying Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, according to the different needs of different kinds of families for home, we give them the levels of needs that should be satisfied by the internal space of the residence and the levels of needs that can be satisfied by the public space of the community respectively. As far as possible, we can meet the needs of all groups in the community.
03 COMMUNITY OPERATION MODEL
private
Two-person family: enjoying the Salonand acquiring some knowledge in many areas
Single person family: helping to organize the salon and make some money
Multi-person family: giving a lecture where both the elderly and children can participate
This space is mostly a family space shared out by individual residents, adopting a fee system, and the space is characterized by delicacy and high degree of completion. Common functions are coffee shop, bar, antique collection exhibition, etc. This type of space helps shape a more diverse community, complementing the missing fifth tier of two-person and single person family.
Two-person family: enjoying the delicious food Multi-person family: selling collectiontheir of tableware and dinnereating
Single person family: making dinner and serving others to make more money
half-open open
Two-person family: buying flowers to decorate home
Single person family: selling flowers and vegetables grown at home
Multi-person family: educating children on botany
These spaces adopt a system of free or low fees, usually charged on an hourly or daily basis. The functions are often shared kitchen, shared gym, shared study room, etc. It makes it easier for people in the community to access services and meets the needs of the missing fourth and fifth tiers of single person family and two-person family.
This type of space is free space with a low level of completion and can be made into anything the residents like depending on their needs. It can be a vegetable garden for farming together, or just a bed for overtime people to lie down. This is the most relaxing place to satisfy the missing third, fourth and fifth tiers of single person family and twoperson family.

Unit Module Combination 29
The core, together with the column network and beams, form the unchanging skeleton, and the prefabricated units give the building its variability.
Open roof gardens are set up on every few floors to form a ground plane suspended in the air, increasing the desire for interaction and socialization. It makes the upper part of the building more of a public space in addition to a residence.
A complex of fixed structures, assembled prefabricated modules and moveable walls form the community of the future. Here, the size and function of the space of the home can be changed by the mobility of the walls. As time changes and the number of occupants in the building changes, the number of various prefabricated modules in the floor will change, as will the ratio of the area of the community's public space to that of the home. The residence will no longer be a commodity house dominated by the developer, but a new, personalized product determined by the user.
According to the diverse needs of the residents in the community complex, the prefabricated building modules in the building can be replaced to achieve the effect of a new home in place.

Historical Background Research Surrounding
The lot is located north of Zhushikou Street in Xicheng District, Beijing, at Hufang Station, which is the original site of Bada Hutong. During the Qing Dynasty, two opera groups, Huiban and Chuqiang, came to Beijing and lived there. The two schools performed on the same stage, and on the basis of the combination of each other's singing art, Peking Opera was born, and Bada Hutong became the cradle of Chinese Peking Opera. As the center of commerce and transportation at that time, Bada Hutong also carries the historical stories of many officials and famous artists.
Culture
Politics History
The lot is located on the periphery of Beijing's central axis protection zone, with the Forbidden City to the north and the famous Tianqiao commercial district adjacent to the south, with convenient transportation and a strong historical atmosphere. As one of the few remnants of Ming Dynasty hutongs, Bada Hutong is a living specimen for studying the streets and alleys of Beijing during the Ming Dynasty and has high conservation value. Under the cultural influence of the opera troupe entering Beijing, the lot retains many former residences of famous Peking Opera artists, who are witnesses of the history and culture of Peking Opera. Therefore, at a time when Peking Opera is in urgent need of heritage preservation, we use the original Peking Opera soundtrack from the movie Farewell My Concubine as a carrier to create transcripts from the Peking Opera complex in what was once the cradle of Peking Opera, to evoke thoughts on the culture of Peking Opera in the new era.

As one of the plazas in front of Beijing's bustling subway stations, Wudaokou has always carried a huge amount of people, but few people stay in the plaza. In order to increase people's desire to stay in Wudaokou Square and create a new scene of encounters between strangers, we created this installation. I participated in the design of the installation as part of the design team, and the whole class worked together to build the installation. The installation is in the shape of a Y, in which people walk towards separation or welcome encounters and have new interactions with each other.
