RECTILINEAR
Create a harmonic composition of rectilinear objects of three different heirarchies and define their relationships to each other.
INSPIRATION
SKETCHES
A thin and tall entity reaches above like in a memorial. I like this balance of dominance in these types of forms.
Developmental sketches explored perspective and methods of balancing masses.

INITIAL MOCKUPS
REFINEMENT
Refined mockups of most aesthetically pleasing initial mockups using yellow foam. The top mockups are shown above, and help me figure out the construction.
Plastiline clay mockups helped me realize and decide on what and how forms could be realistically balanced. 6 SEAN CHENG

RECTILINEAR 7
CURVILINEAR Create a free form object, constructed exclusively from curved cuts on a rectilinear piece of wood.
INSPIRATION
SKETCHES
Form inspired by my Chinese surname and the flowing forms of fire.

ROCKET CAR
Design a car-like shape by using an inspirational theme and a combination of the previously learned skills and techniques in Modulan
INSPIRATION
SKETCHES
Initial concepts were rounder and more friendly, but I felt that I wanted to explore something less “gentle.” Science fiction cars in battles are more menacing.
Batman Beyond and Evangelion are cartoons that influenced my aesthetic choices, the jagged and intense points are intentionally very aggressive.

FINAL PRODUCT
Battered form of rocket car is not due to mistakes but rather intentional weathering designed to emulate battle scars and wear.

DREMEL REDESIGN
Redesign a Dremel after exploring various aesthetics and ergonomic functions and reaching a chosen point of balance between the two in a final form
INSPIRATION
SKETCHES
Natural form of sharks and color scheme of German FesTools
DREMEL REDESIGN 17
INITIAL MOCKUPS
REFINEMENT
Dremel forms were initially small, meant for attachments.
Direction became focused on ergonomics.
18 SEAN CHENG
Clay, easy to form, was used for the refined mockup due to its accessible nature. Dremel can be used comfortably for both left and right hand. Designed to appeal to a more beginner or less serious market.

CAPSULE SOAP
Design a soap that fits the overall aesthetic of a chosen hostel or hotel client after researching, interpreting, and appealing to the target customers

SKETCHES
CAPSULE SOAP 21
INITIAL MOCKUPS
REFINEMENT
Mokcups explored a variety of shapes.
Decided on segmented pill-like form. Capsule form is direct and literal form of soap. Minimal and easy to manufacture, easy on the eyes.

CLOTHING CONVEYANCE
From a flat piece of cardboard, design a folded form that is functional, structurally sound, and can be economically mass produced
INSPIRATION
SKETCHES
Coffin shape, although morbid, is structurally sound with minimal boards. Vertical space maximizes minimal closet space.
CLOTHING CONVEYANCE 25
INITIAL MOCKUPS
Traditional shaped hanger exploration moves on to more alternative solutions to hang clothes.
