9 Pin House

Firm : H2R Architects Location : Taiwan Type : Residential Housing

Time : 2016 - 2018 Phase : Schematic Design Area : 29.79 m2

9 Pin House is a representative residential housing type in Japan. With 9 Pin (29.79m2 ) at first floor and 6 Pin (19.86m2) at the second floor. Applying this type of housing in Taiwan we use 5 rules to correspond including dimension, space, material and roof type. In this project, I made the whole set of CLT structure drawing, 3D Modeling in Rhino, Images, diagram graphic and Physical model by real materials.

UNIT Arrangement Today, almost everything is produced by the factory. When we see all the processes of a factory. The automation is everywhere in the produce process, however, it still needs a lot of workers to make it work. This result also causes factory now is a centralization of labour and technology. Yet, now the concept of open resource is well developed, which can lower the difficulties of production. For example, by using tools such as CNC and 3D printer, a product can be made easily. Every element of a product by using the open resource designed blueprint made at the form lab in the neighbourhood. And constructing by themselves each parts combing them into a product. This means we don’t really need a centralized factory in the future, instead, the decentralized of factory occurs. This is a revolution of industry and is happening now. This trend is a new direction of design in product and machine. And we can also see some prototype of architecture using those technologies to build (or print) buildings. However, those examples still regard houses as duplicable products.

Stair is a special place that when we step in, the space is twisting in time. So we want to have this space experiment in this special place, provide a infrastructure for people to think about what is the relationship between space and time. Especially when people are in motion. And the reflective material also adds another dimension into the space, people can see more than just themselves, but the twisted illusions and reflection of other people and movement. It is an interactive process that is generated between people and this surface.
