The Tigers almost upset the Rams in football Cherie Smith Sports Reporter/Sports Editor The Reedley College Tigers almost ended a three game/year losing streak, dating back to 2009, to the Fresno City College Rams on Saturday, September 15. Fresno City owns the overall wins in series at 29-13.

Fresno City College took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Reedley College battled back making it 21-9 in favor of Fresno City at halftime. The Tigers scored 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to lead 24-21. In the fourth quarter Fresno City scored a touchdown to get a 28-24 lead. With 1:28 left and Reedley at the Fresno 12 yard, an interception ended the game.

Reedley’s quarterback Sean Stell Jr. ran for 14, 4, and 18 yards in Reedley’s first touchdown drive. Stell threw a 29 yards pass to Chris Zakar for the touchdown. On the next drive Fresno had the ball and fumbled it with Reedley recovering. Stell threw an 11 yard pass to Kendric Peeples. Reedley went for two and Terrence Tatume caught the pass from Stell to take a three point lead, 24-21. Both touchdowns were in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Fresno City got a touchdown taking a 28-24 lead. Twice in the fourth quarter Reedley was close to scoring a touchdown, but Fresno City intercepted the ball. QB Stell, from Washington Union in Fresno got his first start of the season. He went 37-56 with 338 yards throwing, ran the ball nine times for 28 yards, two throwing touchdowns, and two interceptions. Stell threw a 27 yard pass to Donte Capers in second quarter. Capers caught the ball five times for a total 51 yards and he ran 12 times for 54 yards. Ernest Carter had a 57 yard run in the second quarter that got them into field goal position. Carter ran the ball 12 times for 87 yards and caught the ball four times for a total of 10 yards. Will Hanford had nine receptions with 93 yards receiving and the longest was 26 yards. The Tigers’ offense had a 59% or 13-of-22 third down efficiency. Kicker Dennis Gallo had three field goals for 29, 34, and 39 yards. The Tigers next football game is at Sacramento City College on Saturday, September 22 and kickoff starts at 6:00 p.m. The next home game is Saturday, September 29 against Monterey Peninsula College with kickoff starting at 7:00 p.m.
