CLAY GARTNER THROWS A COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT WITH THE HELP OF CHRIS KUBER’S HOME RUN The Cardinals win the second game of the doubleheader San Jose, CA June 18, 2011 – In the sixth inning of the second game with a runner at second and no one out, Chris Kuber came up to bat and hit a home run. The Fresno Cardinals got their first home run of the season. Clay Gartner pitched his first complete game shutout of the season. He pitched the second game of the doubleheader and only gave up six hits. Mitchell Sodersten and Brian Gaad both made their pitching debut for the Cardinals. They each pitched an inning of shutout ball in the first game.

The Fresno Cardinals batters had seventeen hits, seven runs, two doubles, one home run, eight walks, six RBIs, 1 sacrifice hit, two stolen bases, and two hit by pitches in the doubleheader. Zak Colby went 1-4 with two walks, a RBI, and two runs. Sam Donald had three walks. Matt Fox went 1-4. Brain Gaad went 3-6 with a hit by pitch. Chris Kuber went 2-4 with a home run, walk, three RBIs, and a run. Mitchell Sodersten went 4-9 with a double, two RBIs, stolen base, and a run. Mitchell Sodersten (Fresno City College) made his pitching debut for the Fresno Cardinals and pitched the seventh inning. He got all three batters out he faced including striking out one. Brian Gaad also made his pitching debut for the Fresno Cardinals. He pitched the eighth inning. He got into a jam, but got the next three batters out including a strikeout, line out to pitcher, and strikeout. He did not give up a run. Cody White singled with two out in the ninth. Chris Kuber (Fresno City College) singled down the left field line scoring Zak Colby. The Cardinals scored three runs off four hits and one error. They led 4-0


Colton Vaughn was hit by a pitch with one out and then stole second in the fifth. The next batter, Sam Donald, walked. Zak Colby waked to start off the sixth. Mitchell Sodersten doubled scoring Zak Colby. Chris Kuber hit a two run home run. It is the first home run of the season for the Cardinals. With two out, Brian Gaad was hit by a pitch and then Matt Fox (Reedley College) singled to right field putting runners at first and third. The Cardinals scored three runs off of three hits. They led 7-0. Mitchell Sodersten singled through the left side with two out in the sixth.
