Tigers Baseball had walk-off win against Golden West College Cherie Smith Sports Reporter After starting the season off on the road, the Tigers were able to come home and play six games before conference play starts up. The first three games were part of the College of the Sequoias Tournament. The Tigers got a walk-off win in the twelfth inning against Golden West College. Reedley College got to host three teams in the College of the Sequoias Tournament: College of Marin, Hartnell College, and Golden West College. On Thursday, February 7, the Tigers hosted the College of Marin Mariners. Marin scored twice in the third inning and Reedley was able to score once in the bottom of the third to get within one. The Tigers were not able to get any closer, losing 4-1. Reedley College’s first baseman Nick Pate had the game winning hit in the bottom of the 12th inning to score Laz Villa against Golden West College on Saturday, February 9. The Tigers won 6-5.

Jonathan Rodriguez went 2-5. Mike Hostetler went 2-5. Laz Villa went 2-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Nate Broaddus went 1-4 with an RBI. Jonathan Chapa went 1-4 with a stolen base. Joe Doering pitched seven innings, gave up six hits, three earned runs, three walks, and struck out six. He got the loss and is 1-1 on the season. John Armijo pitched the eighth inning, walked one and struck out two.

In the top of the eighth inning Reedley catcher Broaddus and third baseman Hostetler were able to catch a Marin base runner trying to steal third base to end the half inning. The Tigers hosted Hartnell College on Saturday, February 9. Hartnell scored in the top of the first inning. Reedley kept the game close and tied the game at eight in the seventh inning. Hartnell scored a run in the top of the ninth inning off an error and won 9-8. Villa had two walks, an RBI, a stolen base, and scored three runs. Rodriguez went 2-6 with two RBI’s and scored a run. Broaddus went 1-4 with a double and an RBI. Hostetler went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and two RBI’s. Nick Pate went 1-5 with a double and a run scored. Jason Gonzalez went 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Justin Dea went 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Chapa went 2-4. John Karch pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief striking out two and giving up one hit. Anthony Valle pitched the ninth inning, gave up an unearned run, and got the loss.


Reedley was supposed to play Golden West College on Friday, February 8, but the game was moved to Saturday due to rain. The Tigers played a doubleheader, playing Hartnell first and Golden West second. Golden West scored first and the Tigers battled to stay in the game. In the sixth inning Josh Cantrell stole second and third base and scored the game tying run. It took the Tigers untill the 12th inning to win the game 6-5. Villa singled to start off the bottom of the 12th inning. Jordan Caglia sacrificed him over and Hostetler hit an infield single, putting runners at first and third. Pate put down a suicide squeeze for a single scoring Villa and winning the game. It was the Tigers first extra inning game this year. The relief pitchers kept Reedley in the game. Villa went 2-5 with a walk and two runs scored. Broaddus went 1-2 with an RBI. Caglia had a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Hostetler went 2-5 with a walk, stolen base, and two runs scored. Pate went 2-5 with two RBI’s. Cantrell went 1-5 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Chapa went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Luke Smith went 1-3 with a run scored. Augie Aguiniga had a sacrifice fly scoring a runner. Armijo pitched six and one-third innings in relief. He gave up two hits, one unearned run, two walks, and struck out four. Sean Borboa pitched the three extra innings. He gave up one hit, two walks, struck out three and got the win.
