Tigers Football ended 11 game losing streak with exciting win Cherie Smith Sports Editor Reedley College Football finally ended their 11 game losing streak that dated back to September 24 of last year. The Reedley College Tigers hosted the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos on Saturday, September 29. Going into halftime, it was Reedley leading 14-0. Monterey scored twice in the third quarter, but Reedley also scored. Reedley College won 21-14. With 11:28 left in the first quarter, Reedley College’s Donte Capers ran 16 yards for a touchdown, the first score of the game. Sean Stell, Jr. threw a 7 yard pass to Will Hanford for a touchdown with 5:18 left in the first half. Both of the touchdowns were 82 yard drives. The Tigers led 14-0 at half time. Monterey had a fake punt that they turned into a touchdown in the third quarter, making it 14-7 Reedley. Stell threw a 12 yard pass to Chris Zaker for touchdown with 7:08 left in the quarter. On Monterey’s possession they scored a touchdown, making it 21-14 Tigers. Reedley’s defense sacked Monterey’s quarterback four times and caught two interceptions. The defense had two red zone stands in the final 10 minutes to help seal the win. Reedley’s starting quarterback Stell went 25-38 in passing with 290 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He also ran five times for 11 yards. Quarterback Ian Hall came with less than 10 minutes left in the game went 1-2 passing for six yards and rushed four times for 27 yards with the longest being 22 yards. Capers rushed 10 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, including a 25 yard run, and one reception. Ernest Carter rushed 13 times for 60 yards with the longest being 15 yards and rushed four times for 27 yards with the longest being 11 yards. Hanford had eight receptions for 95 yards with a touchdown and the longest being 19 yards. Kendrick Peeples had five receptions for 73 yards including a 26 yard catch. Terrence Tatume also had five catches for 69 yards with the longest being 17 yards. The Tigers defense kept the Monterey offense to -10 yards rushing and only one third down conversion in 12 tries.


Saturday, October 6 is a bye week for the Reedley College Tigers. The Tigers’ next game is Friday, October 12 at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill with kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Homecoming is Saturday, October 20 against Merced College. K ick-off is at 1:00 p.m. at Reedley High’s Sal Gonzalez Field.
