Urban Planning & Design Extern During an intensive one-week externship, worked with an urban design project manager and MIT Media Lab visiting researcher to map and analyze spatial data collected via mobile application, specifically as the data relate to urban form in an attempt to better understand use of public space in the Downtown Crossing district by various demographic groups. Assisted with brainstorming of project progression and helped formulate a conceptual framework for integrating real estate analysis methods with urban design processes.

Currently consulting this year’s GIEP Fellows as a technical advisor, hired by the program director to assist fellows with project management, web development, and mapping techniques. During the original project scope, worked side-by-side with Master of Information Science students, and Indian researchers and information professionals to develop a web-based mapping and data visualization tool (the Urban Informatics Portal), with an emphasis on project management and user experience design and design research.

Investigating the political and fiscal status of Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts in the state of Michigan in an attempt to analyze the degree of success in generating economic development by such districts (Bieri).
