Argentor Cottage

If you are thinking about somewhere super special to stay with your family, take a look at Argentor Cottage in the New Forest National Park on the south coast, 90 minutes from London. This 200-yearold cobb cottage is in the tiny village of East Boldre, near Beaulieu. You will find it tucked down a little lane frequented by the famous free-roaming ponies and donkeys, surrounded by woods and vast heather plains for easy adventures on foot or by bike from the front door.
Step inside and you are greeted by a serene Scandi vibe, which runs throughout the cottage. Think natural elements of reclaimed wood and brick paired with funky ceramics and textiles such as linenblend cottons and wool in various textures, and sheepskin to add interest and cosy softness.
The cottage colour scheme is in keeping with the typical Nordic colour palette of chalky hues on the scale of light to dark, which is both calming and soothing. You will find a smorgasbord of craftmanship, upcycling of furniture such as the lounge rocking chair for cuddles with the kids. Plus, high street, and online finds like the woven hanging chair from Amazon, which adds a fun focal point to the main bedroom.
Outside a large wraparound garden is bordered with ancient lofty trees, established blooms, prairie planting and areas of wild meadow attracting butterflies and wildlife, which children love to see. French doors lead out to a series of grassy lawns for children to play hide and seek or just run around and let off some steam. There’s garden furniture on which to relax with a glass of your favorite tipple and take in the views through the trees and spot deer tiptoeing through the bushes. And, when the sun goes down, wrap up in a blanket and settle down to stargaze in the National Park’s inky black skies.
The thoughtful owners of Argentor Cottage have worked hard to combine design aesthetics with the critically important comfort factor, alongside the day-to-day practicality of hosting families. This isn’t your average holiday home. It is a selfcatering boutique luxury experience in a National Park famed for its prettiness, vibrant wildlife, and adventures with mother nature.
About the area
A short walk from the cottage is the Turfcutters Arms, a gastro style pub which welcomes families with open arms, there’s also a big children’s play area in the garden. There are plenty more good eating pubs and eateries within a few miles.
Days out with the little ones should include Paulton’s Park – home of Peppa Pig World, and voted the UK’s number one family theme park by TripAdvisor; the New Forest Wildlife Park; Beaulieu Palace, Garden and National Motor Museum; and Longdown Activity Farm, which has both indoor and outdoor play areas and a petting barn for the baby animals.
Lepe country Park is good for walks with great views of The Solent’s busy shipping lanes and located opposite the Isle of Wight (take a day trip from Lymington Pier). Head west along the coast for fossil hunting at Barton on Sea and walk the 1.5mile pebble spit to King Henry VIII’s Hurst Castle, or bring buckets and spades to build sandcastles at Highcliffe.
For the simplest of pleasures, pack a picnic and head off into the forest, find a wildflower meadow, relax, chill and make friends with mother nature.

Stay at Argentor Cottage: 7 nights in May costs £1,180. www.newforestcottages.co.uk
