Hi There!

Annie here; I’m the Creative Director & Founder of Annie’s Art Studio! I am a multimedia artist living in Los Angeles. Over the past six years, my art world took a drastic change. I created marketing campaigns accompanied by my graphic design creatives for world- wide comic cons and integrated my social media skills into their brands. It was one of the most thrilling jobs I’ve ever had. Working with high- end celebrities for their marketing material and some of the most genius businessmen and women. I’m Debbie Savage, a Cambodian-American entrepreneur and blogger. You can find my blog To Thine Own Style Be True, which was established in 2016. I have an undergraduate degree in family science and a graduate degree in health education. Looking forward to Spring!

Who remembers the Sex And The City finale scene when Smith sends Samantha the budding tulips with a note that says, “Looking forward to Spring?” Well, us, too, Smith. Us freaking too. We have been through the freaking ringer this past 2 years, and I, for one, am ready to heal and ready to blossom. We have survived months of drive-thru dinners and driveby birthday parades. We have survived months of covering our faces and covering our piles of laundry in the background of zoom meetings. We have survived months of e-learning and e-eating our feelings associated with e-learning. We have survived months of stocking up on toilet paper and binge-watching Netflix until our vision blurs. And on top of that, I, personally, survived a divorce. This issue’s No Filter Needed section is a little Spring(y) and a lot divorcy. (Sorry, I had to.) It’s raw and honest, just like a steak order. Keep hanging in there, folks. And keep laughing. You can do this! I think we’re ready for what’s next, and I think I’m really looking forward to Spring.

es, you are absolutely right, we have been away for a while, not just a couple of months, but an entire year! We took this time during the pandemic to sit back and take note of all the ideas that were sent our way, so that we can take our ‘newish’ magazine to another level, while giving it a bit of a rebrand and new look.

This month as usual we start the magazine with our incredible editors who have been so patient during the downtime, they each take you on their journey while also introducing some incredible creators along the way. Our cover star this month is a Cobra Kai fan favorite actor Nick Marini, who opens up about his newest role that takes him on an emotional journey. We also have the stunning Elizabeth Banks in the spotlight as she takes to her newest venture of becoming Co-Owner and Chief Creative Officer of Archer Roose. If you love wine like I do, then make sure to grab yourself a can or two! Fashion week has come and gone, and I can’t compliment the trends enough. I love everything about the AW22 collections, and it’s now time to get creative, open up your closets and where whatever you like! That’s right, the collections were a mix or textures, layers and colors, it was bold, bright and a lot of bare skin. there is something for everyone. Now for something incredibly important and close to many of our hearts. Whilst we are witnessing the bravery of many Ukrainians, we are also witnessing the heartbreak, and devestation that continues to unfold. We stand with Ukraine, and will help in everyway possible. We will be donating 100% of proceeds from this March/April bi-monthly issue to helping humanitarian and housing needs. We are in this together, and together we can make a difference. Can you share with us, what are some upcoming projects we should be looking out for?

Playing the young version of an established character in a beloved franchise is no small thing. I was really happy that in Season 4 I get to evolve towards the Terry we meet in Karate Kid 3. From the moment I did those episodes in Season 3 I have really been interested in the arc of the character, and now getting to watch Season 4 and see where he ends up and how he processed parts of his life is just giving me more material to think about. I’m a fan like everyone else I just happen to appear occasionally. What inspired you to take on the role of Twig?

Cobra Kai Season 4 just dropped. I’ve got an episode of NCIS: LA coming out at some point. About to go shoot an awesome sci fi short to start the year off.

My brother is a big Karate Kid fan, as am I. But knowing that I would get to be a part of a universe that he and his friends grew up on was just an amazing opportunity.

What are some of the life lessons you have learned while working on the Cobra Kai project?

Many struggle with trauma, what would be some advice you would share with those who are currently struggling with trauma?

Strike Hard, Strike First, No Mercy. No but honestly Cobra Kai has been so fun and such an honor. I have no idea where my Cobra Kai journey will take me but I plan to soak in every moment of it. What was the most challenging thing about working on the Cobra Kai project?

The most traumatic experiences of my life have only been made worse by my refusal to move past them. Finding healthy habits to guide you is key. Perhaps that’s something that Cobra Kai highlights well, having discipline to fall back on in times of stress is incredibly useful.

Who would you say in Night Night is the most inspiring actor/actress? I won’t choose between friends. What attracted you the most about the Night Night film? It sounded like a fun opportunity and a great way to start 2020… What were some methods you used to prepare for your role in Night Night? I sort of jumped in on this one at the last minute. I got the role on a plane back to the US from Australia and then had a day in LA before flying to set. There wasn’t a lot of time to prepare so I had to trust my instincts and let them lead. What would you say inspired you the most about Night Night?

RESOLUTIONS I always feel like I come to life in the Spring. The holidays are over, finally. It is common practice to cleanse and declutter your life, your home, and your closet. Why not declutter your social media? It is just as important, seeing that most people spend a lot more time online than they would like to admit. There is much to share over the holidays that our social media aesthetic might become cluttered and a bit of a mess with not a themed look. As a business or influencer, we need to put out a feel of a themed page, a place where people will automatically know what kind of social media page they are on and want to hit that follow button.

I find it incredibly important to have a planned and well thought out platform. One of the first things I suggest focusing on is the subject you are selling. Now you might say that you do not sell a physical product. When it comes to social media, even if you are not selling an item, you are selling the idea you are putting out to grab the reader’s/swipers interest. As an artist, I mainly share my artwork, photographs of my products used, process videos, and photos of me with my work. Relevance is vital when it comes to your post. My followers follow me for a reason. They want to see satisfying art videos and updates on my art shop. I guarantee you that I would lose a ton of followers if I started posting pictures of beautiful food plates on my feed. That’s not something someone wants to see from me.

Same as a beauty influencer. If they were to start posting content that doesn’t meet their theme, the theme people follow them for, they will have a fair amount of people drop from their follow list. It is like going to see a comedy movie in theatres but having a horror movie come to the screen. It is not what you are there for. So number one rule of decluttering, let’s delete or archive all those posts that do not meet our themed subject aesthetic. Check, done! What is a video or beautiful photo without context? Ensuring your caption is clear, well written, and subject driven is essential for your posts. Now I am an artist, and I will be transparent. I even struggle here. So let’s learn from an expert writer who has made writing an art form. In the Social Media and Arts section here in Uploader Magazine, Sahag Gureghian teaches us how to be precise with writing and make sure our captions feel decluttered and perfectly written for our social media posts. Ah! The visuals. Probably the most challenging part of keeping your theme. This will take physical work and will power on your part to keep the visual aesthetic consistent. I want to talk to you about two aspects of visuals—first,

the actual photography and videography, second color scheme. Photography: Do you need a fancy camera for amazing photos? Nope! Most of us have a current iPhone, and that works great. Fancy lighting equipment? Let’s talk about this real quick. Lighting is key for any beautifully filmed or photographed person. If you are afraid of lighting systems, then the best thing you can do for yourself is to take your photos outside in even lighting. Even the best camera will not take the best picture with horrible lighting. Investing in a ring light is all you need in a lighting system. They are not extremely expensive, they are an investment, and you can find one easily on Amazon. You’ve got your camera phone and lighting. Now what? You want your imagery to be interesting. So we are trashing and throwing away all boring content. Only the worthy, trendy, and attention-grabbing are allowed. YouTube and other successful branded pages and companies are going to be your best friend here. Most people are not trained in photography. Study the pages you aspire to be similar to and practice the same angle shots and interesting poses you see.

It is important not to copy and mimic others completely. Stealing is not original and definitely not trendy. Take ideas and make them your own. Get out of your comfort zone and play with ideas you never would initially try. Remember that Spring is the time of growth. Water your own garden—plant new seeds. Once you see this new growth, make sure you stay consistent, your photography is always beautiful, interesting, and eye-catching. No one will concentrate on a boring photo. Color Scheme: Do you need a color scheme? Not necessarily. However, if you choose one, it is going to mean more consistency. I am not one for having filters on my feed, but it is what I feel works for me. I am sure you have seen pages with a beautiful sepia filter in all images or beautiful sunset pink tones. Their entire feed of pictures looks clean and completely themed. There are tons of apps where you can save filter settings and always apply them to your posts. Once you have this theme, there are no changing lanes. One image without that aesthetic will stick out like a sore thumb. So this is a decision you want to make. Just because you do not have a filter theme doesn’t mean you do not have a color scheme. When looking at my feed, you see all the colors. I have a very colorful page within each post. I have to be careful of making posts with subtle colors. Just like the previously mentioned example, a plain colored photo will look very dull and out of place on my feed.

We have now cleaned our social media posts closet. No more posts that do not belong, beautifully written captions, and we have a themed page with beautifully colored aesthetics. Let’s set a goal here after all this hard work of planning. I do not like making New Year resolutions but rather Spring Growth Resolutions. Let’s promise ourselves to put time and effort before we make posts on our platforms. Let’s think to ourselves, “is this post going to benefit my page” and “is this something that my following will want to see and learn from.” Our social media accounts represent us as individuals. THE ART OF WRITING

Spring tends to be a season of fresh starts. For many of us, it represents a time of growth and rebirth. Flowers begin to bloom, animals emerge from hibernation, and birds return from their winter homes to nest and procreate.

Spring is also a time to declutter and organize. By Spring, my house seems to have accrued random papers, unopened mail, cards, unfinished projects, and notebooks. Clutter has come especially early this year with two kids’ distance learning. Their toys, papers, pencils, cups, and arts and crafts are scattered throughout the house. There is a reason spring cleaning is so popular; it helps us refocus and energize. It is a necessary cleanse to get back to the essence of our lives. With her popular Netflix series and book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing,” Marie Kondo has brought decluttering to the forefront. Although it is not a new

concept, the minimalist lifestyle she represents seems more popular than ever. She has inspired people to move into smaller homes, cut their wardrobes, and donate their possessions. This is a good rule to live by, even if not by Kondo’s extreme standards. Our living space is not the only thing that should be decluttered. The feeling I get from editing my writing is like how I feel when throwing out or donating clutter for a fresh and clean space. Unnecessary words and redundancies can be just as restricting and suffocating as the ones in our home. These also need to be eliminated so we can get to the essence of our writing. I approach all writing like Kondo would a physical space. Think of a Tweet. Twitter currently limits tweets to 280 characters, up from their standard 140. Even with the higher word count, when tweeting, users need to say more with less to get their points across fully. All writing should feel clean and devoid

of any excess, so this is a great rule to follow. It is one I have been following since discovering Ernest Hemingway’s simple, direct, and unadorned prose as an undergraduate writing student. I revisited my earlier writing to find an example to drive my point. I came across my first published short story from 2008. I wrote it as an undergrad after discovering Hemingway’s work. I generally cringe when reading my earlier writing. Still, I feel this story’s opening provides an excellent example of the minimalism I strive for in all my pieces - using few words to state only what is necessary. This piece is an excerpt from Lies My Mother Told Me: “My father brought his mistress to my mother’s funeral. They arrived separately, stood apart until a large crowd gathered, then moved closer and closer until they stood together, looking down at her grave. She cried. He didn’t.”

Many of us are used to writing like we speak. We often repeat ourselves to get our points across. It is not easy training ourselves to cut down our words. We tend to get attached to them because our stories are creations we pour our hearts and souls into. However, it’s important to trust ourselves and our readers. Stepping away for a night can provide a new perspective on the piece and help see it with fresh eyes. Another simple way to cut down excess wordiness is to eliminate adjectives and adverbs, often being fillers. If a sentence seems too long, eliminate the word and separate your sentences. You will see how much better the piece will read without those other words. To determine whether excess words bog down your piece, read it aloud to hear how the words sound together. Any time you stumble or a sentence gets too long, make a note. Determine which word(s) can be cut, eliminate them, and read again. Keep rinsing and repeating until you reach the

essence of the moment. You will be amazed at how much better a piece will sound once the fat is cut. Here is another example from the same short story to help illustrate how I added to the moment and continued to set the tone of the piece with minimal wording. “The priest stepped up to the grave, silencing everyone. Even the birds seemed to stop chirping. He began a hymn, his voice soothing in the humid afternoon. Some of the mourners sang along with him, their monotone voices overthrowing his melodic tone.” I reveal information in layers instead of one giant glob, which is essential to remember for any writing type. This specific moment could have been bogged down with unnecessary descriptions that wouldn’t have added to the story. For me, the words that survived my edit capture the essence of the tone I strived to create. Nothing else in that specific moment mattered, so I removed them.


I Challenge You To & Your Writing Clean Your Workspace

Before beginning the creative process, it helps to declutter your workspace and get things in order. Throw out unnecessary papers, organize supplies, and donate any clutter you are hiding behind. Do what you need to feel better about your workspace so you can focus on being creative.

Create Desktop Folders For Your Writing Once you declutter your space, organize the way you write. Create a writing folder on your desktop for easy access to your writing files and various drafts. Or, if you are old school, treat yourself to a new pen and notebook or typewriter and keep them in a designated space for easy access and maximum cleanliness.

Cut Your Writing Down To It’s Essence

Finally, once you are organized, start the challenge of cutting down an existing work. Turn a 500-word article into 250 words. Take away everything except what you want to say. This will help you get into the minimalistic mindset with your work, and it eventually becomes a habit.

Decluttering should not just be reserved for Spring. If you are having trouble getting creative, a clean and organized space can lead the way to a new point of view toward cleaner writing. “More with less” is a great mantra to help take control of our lives.

You are a creative artist whose brain is a wheel of ideas that turns non stop Anything and everything inspires you. For someone like me, ideas mean testing them out and seeing if I can, in reality, create what I see in my head. But wait, do some of the things I am even thinking about exist? Oh, I am sure with a simple Amazon search, I can find anything! And yes, I mean any and everything. If you think it might exist, it probably does in someone’s shop. Now, as an artist, I would run from one store to the other looking for items. Where would I find one-inch steampunk dials, mini nail art fruit slices, glitters of all colors and sizes, tassels, molds, gloves, lighting gear, packaging items, and on and on? I would spend all my days driving in Los Angeles traffic. No one wants to do that. With Amazon, I can get all those items alongside home supplies with just a few clicks. For those of us who have social media followings on our platforms, an Amazon Storefront list has become a huge tool. As all bloggers do, we guide our followers to sales and fun items that we think they would love to use. Most of us won’t have the time to have daily conversations with the large number of people who follow us. These Amazon Storefront links

As an art educator in the resin world, I love sharing my favorite items with my maker community. This Spring, let’s focus on fresh, trendy items! I have picked my favorite five Amazon finds that I am obsessed with this Spring in making my resin art. I hope you love them as much as I do. Item 1: Game set molds are the HOT TREND in the resin community at the moment. This domino set and Tic Tac Toe board set are quite literally on fire. Especially with everyone being home during quarantine, people want to create and personalize their game sets. Here are a few of my favorite sets I have created this past month. f all the beauty trends we are seeing: bold shadow, colorful mascara, and graphic eyeliner, if I were to put the focus on a single facial feature, I would say that the eyes have the spotlight. The bold eyeliner is my personal favorite. Although you should give graphic eyeliner a try at least once, the classic black eyeliner is timeless and never fails to impress.

UPLOADER UPLOAD MAR/APR 22 Which product/s do you need to create the perfect cat-eye eyeliner look? Pencil, gel, or liquid liner? Personally, I prefer the latter! And yes, liquid eyeliner takes some time to master, but it gives you a precise, clean look that you can’t achieve with any other product once you do. How do you choose a good eyeliner? You need to look for three things: super sharp tip (this will make it easier to get that super fine line at the inner and outer corner), hard tip (you don’t want the tip of your liner to wiggle too much because it gets a bit tricky to control) and finally nice color payout. To test the color payout, draw a few lines on your hand to check how the color deposits on your skin. You want to see a nice black line because you don’t want to repeatedly go over your liner to make sure the color is stark enough. Going back and forth tends to get messy, and we certainly don’t want that. I love Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. It has been my go-to for years, and so far, I haven’t found anything that works quite as well.

ABSOLUTELY! First, practice, practice, practice! My eyeliner game has improved over the years. I would say by now, you can wake me up in the middle of the night, and I could probably do a decent cat-eye liner. But a good trick is to start at the outer corner. The wing is pretty much everything. You want an angled tip that will point up (this will visually elongate your eye and create that cat-eye appearance). To determine the angle:

Personally, I prefer a thinner line at the inner corner, just because visually, it helps to create that cat-eye look. The last step is to clean up. I always do my eye makeup first. This way, if my wing isn’t exactly perfect, I can clean it up with a Q-tip and some eye makeup remover. Another tip, once you have your foundation on, sharpen your wing with a bit of concealer. I haven’t always done this, but I find that the concealer gives even more sharpness to the wing.

There is a saying in the fashion world that states: “All you need is leather and love.” Leather skirts have been on the style scene for decades. Sure there are time periods where they go off trend per se, but that is not the current situation. Leather has exploded lately making a comeback and can be found in a variety of colors, in accessories, pants, dresses, skirts, coats and more. Leather is also not just for cold weather months, and it will be seen in stores all the way through Spring and Summer this year. Many people believe that they can not wear a pencil skirt because the assumption is that it is only for the long and lean, however this is false information as a pencil skirt is universally flattering. A pencil skirt can accentuate curves on hourglass and pear figures and create curves on those that desire more. A high waist pencil skirt can slim the stomach area and highlight a smaller waist making a woman appear leaner. Leather pencil skirts must fit properly. They should be fitted at the waist, but not too tight or clingy and you should be able to sit comfortably when wearing it. Pencil skirts look great on women of various heights, but they should hit right below the knee.

One of my favorite phrases as a stylist: “This can take you from desk to drinks.” This means that you can rock this skirt from morning until night just by changing the top. Here are three different ways you can rock your leather pencil skirt. 1. With a Rock Band T-shirt: Rock band tees have taken over pop culture merchandise. There are expensive, vintage tees that can be found on ebay or etsy, and there are inexpensive tees that one can find for less than $15 at stores such as Target or on Amazon. A rock band t-shirt paired with a leather skirt is casual chic. It looks great with sneakers and with heels. 2. With a sequin top: Embellished tops are on trend and sequins are not just reserved for the holiday season. I love sequins and leather as a combination because it combines funky, edgy, and glam all in one outfit. This is perfect for a night out or a fancy event. 3. All black everything: You cannot go wrong with a black top and black, leather pencil skirt. It is beyond classy and elegant and it is also timeless. You can add a printed shoe for a pop or a bright clutch. Wear a black t-shirt and wedge sneakers for a day time look or a blouse and heels for evening.

I am married to one of the most amazing men in this world and am a mom to two girls and one boy (ages 12, 11, and 4). As most of you know, being a mother is one of the most rewarding experiences. You can almost always find me in a cute pair of heeled boots or wedges! • Do you ever get hit by writer’s block, and if you do, how do you get past it? Absolutely and honestly, it is something I am still working on. I try to plan everything out in advance so it does not affect the timing of my posts. If you do not have time to curl your hair quickly, you can never go wrong with a messy bun or a side braid with a cute hat! For shoes, you can go for a more relaxed look with a cute pair of tennis shoes or quickly dress up your outfit with some simple wedges. Mascara alone is enough to help you feel ready for the day! It is springtime, so that means; time to declutter, minimize and organize. It is natural for us to collect items in our lives and hold onto things that bring us memories of good times. From the time we are children, we start creating memory boxes of trinkets we love and don’t want to part with even when we’ve outgrown them.

I only have a few items from when I was a child because we were continually moving, and items either got lost or did not quite make the cut for the next move. I didn’t realize how much that affected me until I had my daughter. As she outgrew clothes, I put aside some clothing that was my favorite. When she started school, I saved all her art projects and gifts she made me. As she grew up, I realized she had artistic talent, so there have been many art pieces to collect throughout the years. As a professional organizer, I have gone through everything in the house every six months to declutter and taught my daughter to do the same. Why every six months? Because we are creatures of habits so stuff is continuously trying to make its way back into lives. But having not many memories from my childhood.

Spring Cleaning I have been careful about what my daughter throws out as I know one Tips That will day she will want to have it so she can remember the best times of her Clear Your Space childhood. So trust me, when I say, I know it hard to get rid of things.

I always tell people to leave the categories that hold treasures and memories last to go through, or you will find yourself at a standstill. Instead, start with your closet, kitchen, or bathroom, whichever you are least attached to. When I am working with a client, I like to start with their closet and drawers first. Mostly because they are items that only belong to them, and they can make the full decision on letting things go. When a significant other or child is involved, it takes more time. When it comes to your home items, you have permission to get rid of things you do not love, use, need, or simply because your dear aunt Rita gave them to you. Some of these items can be gadgets that you bought on infomercials or clearance that you’ve never used or have only used once, and now it is taking up valuable space. All those manuals you collect from every item you have ever bought, and with everything being digital these days, I am sure you can find them online. Do you know most people only wear 20% of their clothing? So while going through your closets and drawers, keep these questions in mind. Have you worn it in the past two years? Does it fit? Does it have rips or stains? Does it need altering? Do you love it?

SPRINGCLEAN Dust all those nooks and crannies you never have time for. Pull furniture away from walls and vacuum behind, under, and in between seat cushions. You will be surprised by all the places dust likes to accumulate. Don’t forget baseboards, which love to collect dust.

Junk drawer - Everyone has one or two. Empty the drawer and remove dust with a wet cloth or vacuum nozzle. Toss any items you don’t want or need. Before replacing the rest of the items, use containers to keep things organized and from shifting in the drawer.

I have created a spring cleaning list to help get you started. You can do these in no particular order, but I recommend you start with the easiest to help jump start your momentum.

t s i l k c e ch Clean your oven and microwave - Use your oven’s self-cleaning function or sprinkle with baking powder and scrub away grime. Microwave Tip: Heat a bowl of water, vinegar, and lemon or orange slices for several minutes and wipe down the inside and outside.

Clean out your fridge and freezer. Remove all bins and shelves and wash with warm, soapy water. Tip: Place lemon wedges down your garbage disposal to give it a squeaky clean smell.


Shoes - Get rid of any shoes that look worn or hurt your feet. Tip: If any shoes need repairing, place them in a bag and in your car, so when you see a shoe repair shop, you can drop them off.

Clean out your closets and dresser drawers. Go through your clothes from the season that’s just ended. Take notice of what you wore and what you didn’t wear. Try on anything you are unsure about before putting it back.

Clean out your email inbox. Delete emails you do not need and create folders to help keep your inbox organized.

Go through your books and get rid of any books you don’t need or want. If they have been sitting on your shelves collecting dust, hoping to be read one day, pull them aside to read or donate them.

Organize your purses. Take everything out of them, toss trash, and organize purses by category, small to larger, or by color.

Bathroom cabinets and drawers. Look for expired medicines and makeup. Toss any liquid makeup that is six months old and solid makeup that is one year old. Mascara should be replaced every three months. Do the same with skincare and hair products. Tip: Make sure to clean your makeup and hairbrushes with a gentle shampoo.

Toss out papers and magazines you don’t need and shred any documents that have personal information.

Once you are done spring cleaning, you should be left with donate, sell and throw away piles. Act accordingly and don’t second guess your decisions. Remember, to have a clear mind; you must first have a clear space.

Is it possible to manifest criticism & self-doubt, and how do I know if I am creating it? By Anonymous A. Your beliefs determine your manifestation. If you are asking me this question, then I will say there is a likelihood that you are manifesting criticism and self-doubt into your life. The real questions you should be asking yourself are, “Is this who I am? Is this how I wish to define myself ?” Most people believe things happen to them and not because of them. Take, for instance, self-doubt. No one can make you feel self-doubt except yourself. It doesn’t matter what other people say to you because them saying it does not make it real. It is when you believe it to be true that you give it power and start to believe in it. Our subconscious mind does not know the difference between real and not real, so it is crucial what we tell ourselves. This happens to us at an early age as we start to believe everything our parents and teachers tell us and where self-doubt and criticism starts. We are so eager to be liked that we not only believe but accept everything that is said to us to be true. But the truth is whatever you believe. It is that simple. The only person that can help you is you.

What do you believe to be true?” Sometimes when things look impossible, it is because others have told you that, and you have believed them. This is a form of criticism that causes self-doubt, but while they may have put that seed of doubt in our mind, it is only you that can keep it there. Doubt has a way of creeping into our lives without even recognizing that it’s happening until it starts to take over and keep us from achieving our goals. To begin working on removing self-doubt or criticism from your mind, you must be willing to work on it daily. This is a way of life, not a do it for a few days or weeks but daily. The more you do it, the more you will see things change in your life. One way to do this is by reading, writing, or saying aloud self-worth affirmations. Another trick I like to use is doing the opposite of what you would do or think. Suppose something isn’t working, ask yourself why. You will be surprised by how many times a lot of the answers we seek we already have the answers to.

Your confidence will grow, and you will expect people to recognize your value. Believing in yourself is what will cause good things to come into your life. Your words are powerful, but it is not enough to say you believe; you have to know it to be true. It is one thing to think it; you have to put in an action plan. It is also essential to recognize the difference between being critiqued and being given quality advice. Sometimes we don’t want to hear what we need to hear. My final advice is to remember if you waffle in your beliefs, all you do is confuse the universe delaying what you truly desire. Do not accept any thoughts that enter your mind that do not serve you, and do not dwell on them. Self-doubt does not define who you are!

A DIVORCE DURING A PANDEMIC

eriously though. Freaking Ashleigh, Kaylen, and Brayden got “drive-by” parades for their birthdays, and all they did was turn 7. Big deal, like that’s hard? I really needed to sit in my car with my kids hanging out the sunroof, like they’re drunk off of Smirnoff Ice’s on prom night, so they can scream as we drive by their friends’ homes, “Yay, it’s your birthday!” (honk honk)! I ended a marriage on zoom. ON ZOOM. My marriage was officially over, virtually, in front of seven other almost divorced couples. Talk about surreal. I sat on the floor of my kids’ closet (the only place I could be alone) at 8:58 am on a Thursday morning and got divorced. And then I logged off of Zoom, as if it were a work meeting, and continued with my day. Divorcing during a pandemic was wacky...well, it was horrible, actually. “Wacky” is a word I would use when I’m describing something strange to my kids. But we’re all adults here, so I’ll come right out and say that my divorce was a horrific nightmare that felt never-ending. And what made it even more “fun” is that because we were all also navigating a pandemic, the isolation factor was even greater. Friends couldn’t come over to hang out and keep me company, I couldn’t get on a plane to see my family, my kids weren’t freaking in school, so I had zero time to breathe when they were with me. And, I know I’m not alone here. Most of us experienced a beyond challenging year that tested our mental and emotional stamina. But for my fellow divorce survivors...man, what a rollercoaster! There were moments when I felt like my divorce was going to run me over. When I felt paralyzed by the pain of not seeing my kids every day or physically ill from engaging with my exhusband. I barely survived my marriage, fueled by codependency and laced with verbal, mental, and emotional abuse. I didn’t

know if I had enough strength to keep fighting and standing up for myself and my kids. The judge did not rule in my favor. The terms of my divorce are still shocking to me. As shocking as the fact that I got divorced without a bra on. Yes, that’s right. Braless and divorced. What a time to be alive. I walked away from my marriage with nothing but my freedom. And the chance to start again. There’s a beauty in starting over, in recognizing that by getting a divorce, I gave myself another chance at being happy and fulfilled. So what now? Now, I grow. Now, I spread my wings like a butterfly who’s just broken out of a cocoon. I figure things out. I try my best to learn from my mistakes. I will strive to be as happy as I can be. I will learn what makes me happy. Here’s a big one: I will put myself first. I will learn how to fly. My divorce gave me everything I needed—a fresh start. And honestly, I don’t need a drive-by parade for an excuse to get drunk off of Smirnoff Ice. Okay, I’m totally kidding. Do they even make Smirnoff Ice anymore? Andrea XO

Orange and Apple Cider Vinaigrette by Chrystin Nevarez This is THE vinaigrette that will make you want to eat your greens! It’s tart, ever so slightly sweet, and the shallots + garlic are everything. I love this dressing with toasted pecan halves, grapes, blueberries, spinach, and blue cheese crumbles for a quick lunch-salad. Tweaking just a bit, add a good fat like, avocado, and some grilled chicken for an easy low-carb dinner—and by “low,” I mean side of baguette. *wink, wink* Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/4 orange juice 1 clove garlic, minced 1 small shallot, minced tablespoon Herbes de Provence

HOW-TO: Mix everything in a bowl or shake in a mason jar (my go-to). Toss with salad greens and goodies of choice. Store in the fridge up to one week*. *If olive oil becomes solidified while cold, let it come to room temperature.

No Bake Bunny Cheesecakes by Nicole Renard @nicole_thenomad

With Easter just around the corner, these no bake bunny cheesecakes are the perfect treat for your party or Easter dinner. Because of the magic ingredient, gelatin, this recipe comes with an added boost of collagen helping your hair, skin and nails thrive along with your shining self. It’s also the secret to getting these nice, beautiful layers to hold up and be clean and crisp. Luckily gelatin is flavorless, which makes it so easy to incorporate into other recipes.

INGREDIENTS

6 oz shortbread cookies approx. 12 round cookies 1 Tbs melted butter 2.5 tsp unflavored gelatin 2 Tbs cold water 1 lb full-fat cream cheese at room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar ½ tsp lemon juice 1 tsp vanilla extract Pinch salt 1 cup cream at room temperature Gel food colors

Butter Cream Frosting

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar 1/2 Tbs pure vanilla extract 2-3 Tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk Sprinkles to decorate Fit Joy Grandma’s Lemon Square Protein Bars cut into bunny ears shapes Toothpicks

Place a jumbo silicone muffin pan on a baking sheet. Grind the shortbread cookies in a food processor until they are fine crumbs, or crush them in a plastic bag with a rolling pin until they are finely crumbled. Mix them in a bowl with the melted butter. Divide the shortbread crumbs into the muffin pan, and press them firmly into the bottom of the pan to form your cheesecake crust. Refrigerate. Place the cold water in a small bowl, and sprinkle the gelatin on top. Whisk them together, then let the bowl sit for 5 mins so the gelatin can hydrate and absorb the water. Set aside. Put the cream cheese in the bowl of a large stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, and beat it until it is smooth, creamy, and free of lumps. (A hand mixer can also be used). Add sugar, lemon juice, vanilla and salt, and mix well, scraping the bottom and sides of the bowl occasionally. With the mixer running on low speed, gradually add the cream, mixing until everything is smooth and well-combined. Microwave the gelatin for 10-15 seconds, until fully melted and liquid. Add the liquid gelatin to the cream cheese mix and mix it in. Finish mixing by hand, scraping the sides and bottom well. Divide the cheesecake into 4 bowls. Stir a drop of food coloring into each one and mixing until the color is smooth and uniform. Take your first color and divide it between the 6 cavities. Spread it into a smooth layer with the back of a spoon, then add a second color on top of the first. Continue to layer the cheesecake colors until all 4 of them have been added to the pan. Smooth the tops of the cheesecakes, then place them in the freezer for at least 2 hours to firm up. They should feel solid to the touch before you try to un-mold them. To remove, press the bottom of one of the cavities and turn it upside-down, pushing the cheesecake out into your hand. Let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to defrost before serving. They can also be refrigerated for several days after being un-molded, if you want to make them in advance. These cheesecakes should be stored in the refrigerator and served chilled. To make the buttercream frosting, whip the butter until soft, slowly add powdered sugar and vanilla. Add milk/cream until desired consistency is reached. 15. To decorate, top each cheesecake with a swirl of frosting and a pinch of sprinkles. Place two toothpicks in the top of the cheesecake and using the Fit Joy protein bars, cut bunny ear shapes and slide them onto the toothpicks until they stand upright.

Apple Cider Mimosas by Chrystin Nevarez

Growing up, I loved drinking sparkling apple cider. It was such a treat! Mix your favorite old-fashioned apple cider + champagne and you instantly have the adult version. Here’s how to make this crisp, refreshing cocktail: Ingredients: Old-Fashioned Apple Cider of choice Champagne (my favorite is Korbel®) 1 teaspoon granulated sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Apple slices How-to: Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small dish or bowl. In another small dish or bowl, add a small amount of water; dip the rim of each champagne flute to get slightly wet. Dip each rim in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Fill flutes halfway with apple cider, then top off with champagne. Garnish with apple slices. Drink responsibly and enjoy!

Cran-Rosemary Gimlets by Chrystin Nevarez

You cannot go wrong with a tart, slightly sweet, refreshing Gimlet. It also couldn’t get easier to make being a 3-part combination of gin, simple syrup, and lime juice—that’s it! For a flavorful twist on this classic, I infused my simple syrup with a sprig of fresh rosemary and topped the final drink off with a splash of Razz-Cranberry La Croix® for more vibrant, holiday flavor (and some bubbles!) This recipe yields two cocktails, and about a cup of simple syrup to have around in your refrigerator*. Drink responsibly and enjoy, friends! Ingredients: · 1 cup gin · 1 cup fresh lime juice · 1 can Razz-Cranberry La Croix or sparkling water of choice · 1/4 cup fresh rosemary-infused simple syrup: Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup granulated sugar + a fresh sprig of rosemary in a small saucepot. Bring it to a boil and heat until the liquid is clear, and the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool before making drinks. Store the remaining syrup in a jar or glass bottle and place in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
