FROM THE
EDITOR A
nother season has passed, holiday season is just around the corner, and sadly the world is still suffering greatly from COVID. As with many businesses, creating and publishing a magazine has many moving parts with time restraints and expectations; but this year with the added restrictions in place, I have found that creativity has truly taken the spotlight. Many of our incredible features and columnists have taken the time to pick out their outfits, do their own makeup and create magazine worthy photos; and every time I receive new images and articles, my heart warms and my face fills with a smile. Knowing that even under the cloud of uncertainty, creativity still shines brighter. I would like to take this time to thank all of our features and incredible columnists for everything they do, and the stories they allow me to share. This month is Disability History Month, to raise awareness and understand disability rights and to celebrate the achievements of disabled people. And so, to celebrate, we asked the extremely beautiful and talented fashion designer Jacqueline City to grace our cover and share her story. Jacqueline suffers from dysautonomia, yet this incredible woman shines bright and is taking the fashion world by storm. She is pioneering a new approach to fashion, by breaking the mold. We also got to virtually meet with Sports journalist Bridget Case, where she opens up about her past struggles, and the decision she made that would change her entire life. Although there is still a dark cloud of uncertainty looming, we are learning to adapt to a new way of working and living, and while this is a difficult time, I will remain positive and keep on creating. Through creative thought and vision, magic is once again gracing our everyday life.

POSITIVELY CHANGING THE FASHION INDUSTRY
ON THE COVER - JACQUELINE CITY
J
acqueline City is an American fashion designer and disability advocate. City manages to juggle everything from runway shows to public speaking while dealing with debilitating chronic health issues. Jacqueline suffers from dysautonomia, a condition which affects her autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls involuntary bodily functions like your heart rate or breathing. City’s dysautonomia had left her bedridden and confused with overwhelming feelings of hopelessness. A team of doctors helped Jacqueline over time, so that she was able to function. Eventually Jacqueline City’s recovery process sparked an idea: a new way to inspire others to still reach for their dreams despite any setbacks that they may face. Thus, Jacqueline City Apparel was born: a welcoming place created out of creativity and hope. Jacqueline wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted to support her journey would be welcome; so, she designed clothing up to size 5X and even added kids’ options. “I want Jacqueline City Apparel to be accessible to everyone: every race, size, religion, gender expression, or age. I want it to be affordable - everything is under $60. I want everyone to feel included on my website and other platforms.”
“The fashion and beauty industries have both pushed a very unrealistic beauty standard for too long, and I hope to change that with Jacqueline City Apparel.” - Jacqueline City hopes to continue to spread her story of triumph in order to teach people to embrace their disabilities or other unique traits. Jacqueline City hopes others can “celebrate what makes you different!” Photography: John Cruice

Jacqueline City Apparel is set to appear at Paris Fashion Week in March 2021 which will be its highly anticipated international runway debut. Jacqueline City Apparel will also launch its holiday collection next month which will surely be a winter dream. In 2021, Jacqueline City Apparel plans to continue to make creative collections as it makes its way into the international market. ONE DECISION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING @afterorangeslices Edited by Cheryl De Marco

FEATURE
What happens when you’ve dedicated your entire life to something and all of a sudden, it’s gone? What steps do you take when you’ve lost your footing? And how do you find yourself when you never really knew who you were to begin with?
At only 2 years old, Bridget Case slipped on her first pair of ballet shoes… and she danced her way through a life that those watching from the outside could only dream of… cheering in three BCS Bowl Games as a University of Oregon Cheerleader during the Oregon football reign, becoming an NFL Cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers, and working as an on-air sports reporter and anchor for NBC and CBS. But what you could see was only the tip of the iceberg. What those looking in may have missed was a lifetime spent struggling with mental health challenges, dealing with bullies, and overcoming an eating disorder. It was her trials… and her triumphs… that ultimately guided her to help share her own struggles with mental health along with other athletes’ stories, by creating her “After Orange Slices” podcast, joining Robert Turbin as CoHost and Executive Producer of “Turbo Talk” podcast and “Turbo Talk Live TV” on Twitch, ultimately positioning her as one of the leading women in the digital media movement where she could make an impact discussing the importance of mental health in sports. When asked where she came up with the name for her podcast, her response was simple, “It’s so relatable. We all remember the ‘team mom snack’ of orange slices. As much as we love the sport we play, there are so many hard negativities that come with the game. This brings back all the positive memories.” It was clear early on that Bridget was destined to become a sports journalist as she used colored pencils to publish a school newspaper, writing about sports, and interviewing her elementary school classmates for catchy articles such as “Why Boys and Girls Like to Play Tag.” it was clear early on that Bridget was different… smart, creative, spending most of her time in dance and sports. Placed in the “gifted” class, she found solace behind the kickball backstop at recess from bullying that would repeat later in life. 26 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
By high school, the sacrifices made as a competitive dancer resulted in further teasing, and “Bridget the dancer” became her identity. Anxiety and depression became her normal existence, while dance was a coping mechanism for major social anxiety; and she turned to food, specifically binge eating, in an attempt to regain control. An auto-immune disorder soon appeared that sidelined the one thing that brought any joy… dance. In college, it looked like things were looking up as Bridget’s passions for dance and football collided to create “Bridget the cheerleader,” an identity that would define her world for the next several years. But, she spent her college career bullied by a teammate and by her coach, being accused of doing drugs and having the other girls on the squad told to “stay away from Bridget” because she’s a “bad influence…“ while simultaneously
being called “the epitome of an Oregon Cheerleader [who] represents the university as an ambassador, inside and out.” She began to discover her talents and her own worth at a time that her binge eating hit an all-time high. Out of college, “Bridget the Cheerleader” found herself in the NFL, where the rules and regulations around social media highlighted the discrepancy between “Bridget the Charger Girl” vs. “Bridget Case,” leaving her feeling like she wasn’t allowed to be a real person. Having focused more on cheer than on her major in college and not spending time working internships over the summer due to her limited schedule, she lacked the experience she needed to secure a job in journalism after graduation. Searching for any foot in the door, Bridget faced going back to grad school to apply for internship positions. She landed an internship (cont. on page 28)

...at a local station and found herself enrolled in grad school at the University of Southern California in order to take the position; which meant juggling the job, the squad, and grad school. Mental burnout and injury ultimately led to Bridget retiring from the team so that she could pursue building her career as a reporter without limitations on who she could be, in public and on social media. This one decision meant she had done more than just simply retire from cheerleading. No longer “Bridget the Dancer” or “Bridget the Cheerleader,” there was a new challenge… she had to remember who Bridget Case was and reinvent herself, connecting back to the dreams she’d long had outside that world but had been so often set aside. Searching for her new purpose while losing friends who were only there for the perks of hanging out with a Charger Girl… the tickets on the 50-yard line or the autographed calendars, it was through the hard times that she was able to figure out how truly strong she was. “I’ve learned to love me. I had the worse self-confidence issues early on because I felt like people only liked me for getting tickets to games or the status of being my friend. But once I realized the other talents I had, I realized I’m kind of a badass.” When asked how she overcame the struggle, Bridget responded, “I always used to say I peaked in college… but, to me, the best mountain ranges are the ones that have multiple peaks. You know the valleys are going to be really low, but then you’re going to rise up again on that hill.” In launching “After Orange Slices,” Bridget has discovered how common identity loss is after retiring from a sport that has defined you for most of your life, not having that routine or that purpose anymore and struggling to discover a new identity; some taking a path or drug or alcohol addiction or financial hardship on their journey to self-discovery. It’s the sharing of the stories and the ability “to save even one life” that makes it all “freakin worth it” for Bridget. And as she is transparent in sharing her story, she’s found that she is better able to manage her own mental health, inspiring others and getting so much better at her own positive self-talk and gratitude. She says it’s more talked about now. You see mental health talked about in ways it never used to be. But after dealing with mental health struggles her entire life, once she saw more people talking about it, it was so much easier to bring it up. And she realized that people are craving transparency and the more she gets real and shares her stories and her podcast guests share theirs, the more peace she feels and the more people let her know that it’s helped them deal with their own struggles. Asked what advice she had for a young athlete or dancer, she had this to say: “Don’t let anybody doubt you. Fall in love with yourself first.” It was in falling in love with herself that Bridget had found happiness and finally got a handle on her mental health. It was then that she realized that happiness is a choice… and health is a choice… and she made the decision to stop binge eating. With all the struggles, what would Bridget have done differently when she was younger? Thinking back, she said she wishes she was “more confident” and that she “knew things were going to be alright. Being a competitive dancer, you spend your life waiting for the judgment of others, waiting for the awards ceremony, waiting for the critiques. “I just wish that I could have understood earlier that I didn’t need to be perfect… and that I just needed to do what made me happy and love myself more.” So, here she is… after the orange slices… after the career as an athlete is over… and after solidly finding her footing in an arena where women aren’t always welcome. Is there any advice for girls who dream of pursuing industries that have been traditionally male-dominated? Oh, heck yes! When you ask Bridget about her journey as a female sports reporter, she has a list of stories she can tell… and each one fires her up more than the last. Really mean emails from other women, people assuming that she doesn’t know sports for the simple fact that she’s pretty, men being inappropriate with her. How does she respond? “Don’t listen to the haters.” She uses that fuel to fire herself up, thanking all of her past challenges that have made her stronger to push back against the haters. DON’T FEAR FAILURE
I
t’s been a far from easy journey from “Bridget the Dancer” to “Bridget the Cheerleader” to “Bridget Case” the podcast host, the sports journalist, and so much more. What was it that led her to shift away from everything she’d known, including sports reporting for local news channels, into pursuing media in a whole new way?
Photography: Lauren Cate
A single decision. Not progressing in her career the way she’d hoped, Bridget had found herself moving back in with her parents and throwing a pity party. Sitting there, she had a choice to make: continue to sulk and wait for someone to come hire her OR put herself out there, take advantage of the digital movement she’d been missing while focusing a different direction, and create her own show. How did she handle the fear of failure? Easy… she doesn’t fear failure. “If I fail, I fail… failure drives me,” Bridget says adding, “every time I’ve failed, I’ve been able to pick myself up and find a new way to succeed. There’s no perfect way to get to the top, so why give up on myself and why worry so much about what I’m doing and just do it, because what’s the worst that can happen? Take a chance on yourself and just try it… because if you fail, great! You’re going to learn something about yourself, you’re going to learn what you can do better next time and why that didn’t work… and then you find something that you love.” It hasn’t been an easy path for Bridget from when she first slipped those ballet shoes on her feet two-and-a-half decades ago. Whether it’s a single game or an expansive career, it comes down to mindset… knowing how to prepare before the game, how to adjust during the game, and how to adapt and find yourself again after the game comes to an end.
And when you do it right, that end simply marks a beautiful new beginning… Photography: Lauren Cate

MY SECRET WEAPON THE EYESHADOW STICK
Debbie Savage is a Cambodian-American who resides in Orange County, CA. She is an editor for her own lifestyle blog To Thine Own Style Be True. Her passions are her family and helping women honor their inner beauty by sharing tips and tricks from the trade.
Creating the perfect smoky eye can be complicated and timeconsuming and blending different shades of an eyeshadow palette to make your eyes pop is not as easy as it sounds. Eyeshadow sticks are a lifesaver as they are so easy to use, even for beginners, and can help you save time on getting ready! What I love about eyeshadow sticks is that they are versatile - you can create professional natural-looking eye makeup for everyday wear or layer a few shades for a more dramatic look. Their creaminess makes for an easy application and gives flawless results, this really is a must-have product for busy ladies!
I’m going to share with you the secret weapon to a perfect everyday makeup look: the cream eyeshadow stick. 36 UPLOADER MAGAZINE

How To Use Sticks
E
w o d a h s ye I
f you’re just starting out with eyeshadow crayons, I would recommend buying a few staple colors that will allow you to use different techniques to give definition to your eyes and your eyebrows.
The easiest way to use a cream eyeshadow stick is to simply use the side of the crayon and gently color on the eyelid until you reach the desired look, applying a few more layers in the crease for a more-defined smoky look. Simply use your fingertips to dab and smooth out the product onto your eyelids. You can use the tip of the crayon as an eyeliner - the creamy texture and bigger tip make it foolproof and easier to use than a regular pencil. If you’re going out, you could select a few complementary colors and create an ombré effect starting by applying a darker shade closer to the lashline and by using your favorite eyeshadow brush to smooth out the colors and to make it less intense. You can even use a lighter shimmery shade as a highlighter on your cheekbones, on the bridge of your nose and under your eyebrows - one less product to carry in your makeup bag. Last but not least, you can apply a white or pale metallic shadow in the crease of the eye to really brighten up your look and trick people into believing that you managed to get 9 hours of sleep the night before!

BACK TO SCHOOL CHIC Break out your Britney Spears costume -- or at least that plaid skirt in the back of your closet. Plaids, cardigans and even sweater vests are a hit this autumn. HERE TO STAY The early 2000s are very trendy right now. Everything from sitcom reboots to bedazzled phone cases have us longing for the simpler times of Juicy Couture tracksuits and VS lipgloss. FAUX FUR, FO’ SHO

For fall and winter, we need to be warm and cozy. Say goodbye to your puffer coats that add no shape or flare to your outfit. Faux furs are a great way to still look expensive, chic, and put together while staying warm. Don’t sacrifice style -- or the animals -- for warmth. Invest in a nice, neutral faux fur to complete any look.
STAY NEUTRAL Neutrals are a fall must have -- pick a few shades you love and invest in several pieces with that same shade. You’ll have no trouble creating cohesive looks that will really elevate your style. Of course spring for a few pops of color or pattern which will be your statement pieces, but keep the rest of your pieces neutral. You’ll have a timeless, effortlessly chic wardrobe in no time.

Sweater Weather is officially here once October rolls around in many parts of the world. I recently heard the saying “A sweater is like a blanket you can wear to work.” I guess there is some truth to that statement considering how comfortable and cozy so many sweaters are. Personally, I love sweaters so much that I even wear them in warmer weather as a layering piece with denim shorts. There are so many styles to choose from this season, some of which include chunky knits, unexpected colors and textures, and some classics too of course. Take a look at my “Spectacular Six”! If we are not under enough stress as it is with this pandemic, one thing is for sure; we do not need the added stress of the holidays too. Preparing for the holidays should be a favorite time of year, but it can be stressful for some people. While holidays should bring happy memories, some people develop seasonal depression from losing a loved one or financial strain, especially during this pandemic. So how does one go about not stressing over the holiday season?
This holiday season does not need to be stressful or exhausting, and it shouldn’t be. Following these five tips will allow everyone to enjoy the upcoming holidays and start the New Year feeling relaxed and ready to put 2020 behind them. Remember to breathe, keep calm, and enjoy the festivities!
P
lanning is vital, and if not done correctly, the remaining things will only add to the stress. Being able to plan will take that overwhelming feeling away, which is the number one contributor to holiday stress. When feeling anxious because there is so much to do, in a short amount of time, it not only takes the joy away but also makes a person feel like they have lost control. Taking the time to plan prevents all that from happening. Another stress trigger is thinking about all the money that has to be spent on gifts, decorating, and food/drinks. That does not include travel for the holidays. This year might look a little different, with fewer people traveling, but it is still a factor. The only way to win here is by creating a budget and sticking to it. If a stress-free holiday is the goal going beyond your financial means will kill any chance of it. Be open and honest about it to family and friends. Trust they will understand, and if they don’t, DO NOT cave in. Remember whom this is affecting, so make certain boundaries are in place. Make a list of gifts that need to be purchased and start shopping early to buy things on sale. This is where planning ahead also comes into play. If being on a tight budget is a concern, consider only giving to the kids this year or making DIY gifts. Pinterest has endless ideas for this. Learn to say no. No to going to every party invited to. No to agreeing to host a party if deep down it is not what you want to do. No to cooking or baking. No to spending holidays with people who cause stress. Everyone is allowed to say no and put their mental health first. (cont. on page 72)
The smell of pumpkin pie, bread, cake, cookies, and lattes can cause anyone to tip the scale without even realizing it. We all know we look forward to all the scrumptious food and drinks that come with the holiday season. We look forward to them every year, and we should enjoy them. However, it is one thing to enjoy them and another to overindulge because the latter always makes us regret it later. Whether it is all the weight gain or feeling guilty of eating so many unhealthy foods, we tell ourselves it is okay because we will eat healthier or lose the New Year’s weight. The reality is that people push stress triggers for the new year, but is that the way to start a new year? Instead, make a conscious decision to enjoy the holiday food and treats but be mindful of how much is consumed. This way, one gets to enjoy the holidays but without any regret.

Leave perfection at the door. If there was ever a year to do it, it is this year. This year has been so far from perfect. Why would anyone want to add the stress of perfection onto it? This year should be about being with loved ones and showing gratitude for still being here.

EVERYDAY I’M HUSTLIN’ Words by Andrea Rappaport @theandrearappaport Edited by Cheryl De Marco

ANDREA’S ANGLE
I
am in hustle mode. Well, truthfully, I’ve been in a version of hustle mode for most of life, but I feel it more intensely now. I’ve always held more than one job at a time. As my mother recently said,, I’ve always created a job for myself, instead of following a more conventional route. Two weeks ago, a major ruling was made in my divorce case. I will not get into the details at this time, but I can tell you that it was not good. From the day that I moved out of my marital home, (just about a year ago), my kids and I have been financially supported by my father. And whereas I am incredibly grateful for his generosity, it’s not something that I want/should rely on as a long term solution. So, I am motivated, now more than ever, to work harder than I have ever worked. Beyond my career as a public speaker and social media personality, I write, have a consulting business and co-own a hair and makeup services company. Oh, and I am also the mother to a five (and a half ) year old and three (and a half ) year old. My boys have trained me well to not leave out the “and a half ” bit - apparently, it’s VERY important. (BTW: I’m 39 and a quarter). I am also exhausted. I am overwhelmed. I am drained, but also invigorated. I am excited for the possibilities ahead and the feeling that I am closer than I have ever been to success. Not having the financial cushion of a spouse is an unsettling feeling. Knowing that it’s all on you to not only make ends meet but to eventually have a financial cushion of your own feels daunting. But it’s also motivating. It’s amazing what we can do when we push ourselves. I am still in the very beginning stages of being busy again. My brain is rebooting after months of being in “sleep mode” from the early days of quarantine. I am finding that it’s hard for me to sleep through the night because my mind is racing with thoughts, plans and to-do lists. I feel guilty when I can’t give my boys undivided attention during the day because I am juggling several careers 76 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
and hundreds of tasks. I am finding that I fall asleep at night when I put my boys down because my body is beyond done for the day. When I later wake up in the middle of the night, I feel a twinge of disappointment because I let myself fall asleep, instead of taking advantage of the small window of “me time”...and I wonder how much my Netflix account misses me. I know that I will find a rhythm. I also know that there is no such thing as balance. I know that I need to be patient with myself and not punish myself for not being able to do it all.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT ALL. And nobody is expecting me to do it all...well, except for me. In fact, it’s currently 10:17 pm. As I’m writing this article, my brain is swirling with other tasks I need to take care of. But what am I going to do when I finish? I am going to go to bed. Well, I’m going to watch an episode of 90 Day Fiancè and THEN go to bed. Here’s to all of the hustlers out there. We are hungry for success. We are driven AF, and we are exhausted. Go sleep.

The Mindset Minute
Are You the Observer or the Actor in Your Life?
H
ave you been out with your friends where everyone is laughing and having an amazing time but it feels like you aren’t a part of the conversation? Not because you’re not engaging with them but it’s almost as if you’re watching everything from a 3rd-person perspective? Watching the events unfold as if you were simply an observer? Maybe you have been sitting there with your significant other, your children, or even your family but you just didn’t feel… present. Over the last month, I’ve been working with content creators and entrepreneurs who have felt this same way. It was as if they couldn’t even connect to the life they have created for themselves. Something didn’t feel right and they didn’t know what to do about it. As someone who is a mindset coach for highperforming entrepreneurs, I can say with total confidence that it’s happened to me too. *gasp*! I know! How the heck is a regular person supposed to handle this if someone who studies how the mind works gets sidelined by life from time to time? It’s simple. Now that’s not to say that it’s easy because life can pile the weight of the world on your shoulders but it’s a simple process to take yourself through. Before I jump into the process, it’s important to know why this happens. The biggest reason why you feel like you’re having an “out of body” moment or moments when you’re watching yourself live a life you can’t connect to… It’s because you’re either questioning your life purpose or questioning if it’s even worth it.
“
“
We have an abundance of moments we just need to be present for them. - Jessie Bohnenkamp -
Last month, I wrote about how to discover or reconnect with your purpose. But if you’ve lost your sense of purpose, it creates uncertainty and anxiety. Anxiety is what happens when you spend too much time thinking about the future and all of the potential possibilities of the future. As humans, we struggle with massive amounts of uncertainty and a good percentage of people also struggle with minimal amounts of uncertainty. So this process will help you re-center, re-focus, and put you on a path to become the actor in your life instead of simply an observer. 1. Ground Yourself: The first thing you must do in order to re-center and refocus is to ground yourself. This is why weighted blankets are so popular because the weight reminds people they are here in the present moment. If you don’t have a weighted blanket, go outside and put your feet on the grass. If you can’t go outside, just look around the room and take deep breaths. Focus on what’s around you and start to realize exactly where you are. 2. What are you feeling?: This is the most challenging part and it might help if you have a friend or someone you trust to walk you through it. But feeling the anxious feelings or uncertainty… ask yourself (or have a friend ask you) – what are you currently experiencing? Keep answering. Not asking why you feel that way or offering suggestions or advice. Simply letting all of those thoughts leave your mind is the key until you’re on empty. Invalidating your experience or having a friend do that won’t help you in this situation. So let them know that it’s important to not offer any guidance or advice during this process. (cont. on page 84) UPLOADER MAGAZINE 83
“Life is a succession of moments, to live each one is to succeed.” - Corita Kent 3. Breathe Deeply & Re-Center: The last thing to do is simply be in the moment. Recognize that now that you’re on empty of all of the things you were worrying about in the future… they aren’t here, in this moment. At the end of the day, we never remember every little detail that happens throughout the day but we do remember how we feel. So, if you are in a place where you feel uneasy, uncertain, or even like an observer within your own life… remember this: This too shall pass. Because this moment isn’t going to be forever even though it may feel like it’s going to be forever. Take a few deep breaths. Recognize the need to re-center & re-focus. Acknowledge the overwhelming amount of emotions. When you get back to the present moment – just start with the first step. That’s by making the next moment one worth living. These moments feeling like an observer are simply reminders to get back in touch with who you are and where you want to go in life. Take a moment. Spend it being grateful that it showed up and you recognized it. It’s through gratitude that we’ll be able to make that shift and if you need someone to help… just know that I’m always just a message away. Andrew Carlson @coachandrewcarlson

TIRED OF ADULTING THIS YEAR Words by Naza Holliman @sweet.p.and.sky Edited by Cheryl De Marco
UPLOADER MAGAZINE 87
IT’S HALLOWEEN SEASON & WE’RE NOT MAD!
The stresses of work, school, an overabundance of “grown-up” pressures and responsibilities, are just plain exhausting! Oh, yeah, let’s add pandemic to that lovely list. It feels as this year has downright beat the collective masses down, and we are exhausted! So for many, the idea of Halloween being cancelled is not an option. The arrival of Autumn in these crazy times brings with it a new hope, and the silly, childlike fun of a cheerful holiday, which celebrates with candy and offers the opportunity to feel like someone else but for a night. The shelves at the markets are filled with tasty Pumpkin Spice flavored goodies, coffee shops have rolled out their seasonal drinks, and stores are filled with wonderful Halloween décor that makes the heart smile.
This year, more than ever, people are embracing the fun of Halloween. Neighborhoods have been decorating for what feels like a month, and all in good fun! So, what is there to do if we can’t have our Halloween parties, and if we can’t take kids Trick-or-Treating, but feel that need to celebrate? Decorate: nothing gets one in the mood for a holiday, quite like decorating. Start early and get those decorations up. Carve a pumpkin or three and little by little, turn your home into a Halloween wonderland. Visit a Pumpkin Patch: get a little sense of normalcy back in your life and visit a pumpkin patch this season. Take ALL the pumpkin patch photos this Fall and enjoy a little fresh air. Dress Up: go on, get dressed up. Pull out the years of saved Halloween costumes and wear them all week, or even all month. Get silly and just enjoy! No costumes in the arsenal? This is cause for a trip to the Halloween Costume Store! Whether it’s sexy, silly, or just plain spooky, pick something that makes you feel happy. Scary Movies: now that you’re all dressed up, it’s time for scary movie night! You can go silly, you can go frightening, whatever puts you in the mood. Of course, every movie night needs snacks. Have fun with this! Make some delicious snacks right on theme for Halloween. Drive-Thru Halloween Adventures: do you feel the need to be out and about this month, but want to make sure you are keeping your distance? Thanks to some amazingly creative entrepreneurs, there are many exceptional drive-thru experiences that keep the fun traditions and excitement of Halloween alive in a safe, engaging, and immersive format. FOR THE KIDS If you are a parent, you are feeling the overwhelming pressure to give your children a sense of normalcy and fun during the holidays. So with Trick-or-Treating off the menu, what is there to do? Dress Up: children have the most fun when their parents are having fun with them. So get them all dressed up in their Halloween costumes, and do the same to get the entire family in the mood. Decorate: involve the little ones in your Halloween decorating. If you are able, visit a Dollar Store near you and let them choose the décor for the house, or just their room. Halloween Scavenger Hunt: purchase a few bags of your kid’s favorite candy, and maybe a bag for yourself, and hide the candy near your home. Get the kids out of the house in their costumes and have them find that candy. Voila! The kids are out getting their candy and not in contact with any neighbors! Last but not least, leave a hefty bowl of candy on your porch for those kids whose parents made the decision to Trick-or-Treat this year. Whatever you choose to do this Halloween season, remember to have fun!

My sister and I aren’t talking, and I don’t know how to fix it. Every time I try, I make it worse. Any advice on how I can manifest our relationship to become better? By Anonymous
A. Yes, my advice is to send your sister love and wish her happiness. I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but sometimes the more you try to fix a relationship, the more you push that person away. The reason is, if you have done nothing wrong and everything to try to fix it, then you need to step back and reassess the relationship. Remember, to manifest anything, you cannot come from a place of want or need. The more you want or need something, the more the universe thinks you like not having it, and will not help you. It all comes down to energy and what kind of energy you are putting out towards your sister. It sounds like you are resisting the silence and time away from your sister, but what you resist you manifest more of. This is why my advice is to wish her well and be happy for her. It would help if you made peace with how your relationship stands today. This does not mean you are content with it and do not want it to change; it merely means you are letting go for the time being. (cont. on page 92) Frank J. Gallio @ Cherry Blossom Photo

Remember letting go of toxic people is an act of self-love. About the Author...
“
If you don’t make peace with it and spend your time worrying about her, you will add more of that negative energy to the problem, no matter what it is. When you wish someone well and hold them in a loving state, with all the good feelings, you send vibrational energy, and the universe loves that so much that it goes into overtime, trying to create more of it. I know it can be challenging, especially when it’s a family member, but know that while you can control your feelings, you cannot control hers, and it’s not your job to either. Whatever she is going through isn’t something you can fix by manifesting, but being there for her, when the timing is right, can bring all the good feels to align you two back together again. Just focus on the good feelings and let the universe worry about the when and how. Not having the whole story of you and your sister, I also wanted to add this advice if the relationship is a toxic one. Healthy relationships are give and take, not take, and take and take until you are drained. If your sister likes to play the victim, which so many people like to do, make sure she isn’t manipulating you into thinking you’re the bad sister. This happens so many times in sibling rivalry, and most often than not, it’s always best to step away from the relationship to create healthy boundaries. So if your relationship with your sister feels draining to you, you might be in a toxic relationship, which means stepping back might be your only answer right now. It doesn’t have to be forever, but it does need to give you time to focus on your needs before more damage is done.

FEATURE When I was offered a role to go in-house to a broker-dealer called Instinet, at the time a part of Reuters, it was an opportunity to grow and create more depth in a capital markets organization. Although I had rapidly grown within my role at Edelman, I joined Instinet to be part of a new company initiative to grow its business lines while establishing a renewed corporate identity to eventually spin-off from Reuters and go public. This was the first time I was serving in-house within a global marketing and corporate communications department and it was a critical learning experience working with all critical business functions and operations within the organization first-hand. I loved the transition and grew rapidly developing a new corporate identity for the company, eventually being part of the team that helped spinoff the organization along with a series of strategic acquisitions. I was also at Instinet when September 11th occurred, the most unprecedented crisis to our nation and my city. The reality was I was invited to a media industry event at Windows of the World at the Twin Towers the morning of 9/11 along with two technology colleagues, whom I had prepped about the event. Fortunately for me, I had a conflict and I didn’t attend. They unfortunately no longer are with us today. It was one of the most surreal and transformational times of my life and, as a communications executive incredibly humbling. Although the shock and mourning during those early days after 9/11 was very fresh and raw, as a communications executive I needed to remain calm to confirm facts regarding our lost colleagues, whom I will never forget. Delivering those messages to fellow colleagues will always stay with me and put a fine point on how critical rapid and accurate message delivery are during times of crisis. Definitely one of the most transformative times in my career, a lesson in work and life I learned first-hand early on. Q. What types of organizational cultures are the most successful and why? How have you been able to influence organizational culture given your experience?
work environments as they help promote innovation and creativity. I also believe in meritocracy - it’s important for companies to realize that it’s not a one size fits all. Employees have different skills, backgrounds and cultures, which should be embraced in order to effectively grow. It’s also important to reward loyal employees and give them the opportunity to try new roles eliminating barriers, gender bias to avoid keeping talented employees in one single role and to retain them long-term. A big part of my profession has been to serve as an organizational change agent. I have done so by successfully creating programs to align messaging for all employees. Everything from preparing mission statements, to organizing global town halls, launching intranets, and other internal events to ensure we are communicating internally. A healthy organizational culture is one that has an open dialogue with its employees.
I believe organizations that put their employees first are the most successful at delivering client service. Entrepreneurial and nimble cultures are my preferred
Q. You have served as a brand ambassador to organizations of all sizes, what are some of the best practices you have applied?
98 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
One of the key aspects that drew me to the world of marketing and communications was branding. From the inception of my career, I found it fascinating to represent an organization’s brand, product, cause or leadership. A brand ambassador role is a big responsibility, which I have always taken with great pride and dedication. Understanding this first, is a critical best practice and one that you need in this profession. Once you understand every aspect of branding and how it relates to the corporate reputation of an organization you can apply it to any industry. I feel privileged to have represented many brands, sub brands and joined organizations that have needed to stage rebranding initiatives and repositioning strategies from both a b2b and b2c standpoint. Additionally, it has been very interesting establishing brand strategies from the ground up at smaller organizations, which may have launched without a brand philosophy or identity. When I joined the Nasdaq Stock Market at a time when its brand was very much associated with the dotcom bubble burst. (cont. on page 100)
FEATURE It was a complex period of time and terrific to be part of the team that staged a turnaround. I was specifically charged with creating a strategic plan, visibility campaign and identity for the exchange’s Nasdaq Marketsite, its flagship studio in the heart of Times Square. It was incredibly rewarding as I was able to launch a number of campaigns and affinity programs to attract our listed companies from all industry sectors, serve as an educational hub on financial markets, and encourage media outlets from all over the world to report from its state of the art studio with live data and market intelligence experts. I was essentially given a canvas and the freedom to develop regional and global programs that would bring Nasdaq’s biggest listed companies to the MarketSite, CEO’s, media talent, heads of state, celebrities and more. Some interesting projects to name of few included bringing Presidential election day reporting, CNBC’s hit show Fast Money to broadcast from Nasdaq, teaming up with Microsoft to bring The Apprentice national hit show with Donald Trump to film from Nasdaq, kicking off the UN General Assembly initiative with leaders from all over the world such as Former Prime Minister David Cameron to the exchange, bringing soccer icon Pele to Nasdaq for financial literacy programs and pursuing Proclamations with the City of New York and Former Mayor Bloomberg to commemorate key Nasdaq milestone anniversaries. Q. Does having a personal brand identity positively impact your career? Yes - as you grow within your career, it is important to be aware of your self-worth and identity to take control of your own future. Just like you would do for an organization, it’s critical for you to write your own story and identify what makes you unique, what makes you stand-out as a professional and as an individual. I was able to harness my own potential and develop my brand in a way I do for C-suite executives and organizations to reach my goals and continue to do so. It takes time and effort and in today’s everchanging world one must ask themselves this question every couple of years and refresh your own brand identity. For me, it was natural as I am someone that has always had a master plan with short-term and long-term goals both on the personal and professional front and I have expanded upon them as I have grown. I set-out bucket lists and learning aspirations and go after them. In some cases, I have learned that unexpected circumstances occur beyond your control, whether it’s an economic crisis, management change or health challenge, and what that has taught me is that certain things are out of our hands and to tackle challenges as they come with grace and dignity. In these cases, having had a good reputation, self-brand and trusted network has allowed me to lean on a core group of trusted industry friends and experts to refocus a shorter-term approach while continuing to keep my eye on the big picture. Q. How do you look at innovation within your profession? What Innovation projects have you enjoyed the most throughout your career? I love learning about the next breakthrough in an industry and coming up with ways to promote it while analyzing the impact it will have on any overall business. I worked on very exciting innovationdriven projects from the beginning of my profession when the world of e-commerce was taking off given the introduction of the internet. One of my favorite client projects was with Whirlpool Corporation when they were teaming up with Sun Microsystems and Cisco to introduce internet generated appliances. It was a fascinating new time for innovation with a number of possibilities. (cont. on page 102) UPLOADER MAGAZINE 101

I will never forget the strategy and media tour I led with their Chief Technology Officer from the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, landing a terrific exclusive story in The Financial Times and a series of other press events from the trade show. Another fabulous project early on was when my team at Edelman led the spin-off of Expedia, which at the time was owned by Microsoft, during a time when the travel industry was being disrupted. As someone that loves to travel, this was a fascinating development and project for me. During my time at Nasdaq, it was all about innovation and promoting endless opportunities to encourage entrepreneurship and tomorrow’s innovators. As the Head Corporate Communications and the Nasdaq Marketsite studio in Times Square, I loved when we started to take executives, press and bell ceremonies virtually to events, before today’s trend, in places such as the World Economic Forum, Cisco’s headquarters in Silicon Valley or Ethanol Farms in Iowa- to celebrate major milestones. Other innovation focused projects included bringing notables and public figures from around the world to MarketSite. A few years ago, I was tapped to oversee a marketing transformation at Broadcast Music Inc., (BMI) a music royalty organization, an industry that was slow to adopt electronification and saw an eruption of brands like Spotify and Pandora emerge. More recently, I have been involved with innovation projects within smaller fintech and capital markets organizations. My current firm, 280 CapMarkets is revolutionizing the fixed income market with a cloud-based marketplace for bonds in a traditionally antiquated, voice-generated industry. I am also involved with helping launch a new blockchain generated market for second hand mobile phones called Glyde using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Q. How did you develop a love and passion for culture, history and travel? How have you been able to incorporate these passions into the business world? I grew up in a home where history and culture were important and highly celebrated. My Father was born in Italy, my Mother in Mexico and I was born in NYC. If we just pause and think about the cultural contributions of Italy and Mexico alone on a global stage, it’s overwhelming. I was raised in the most culturally diverse city in the world speaking three languages at home, traveling, consuming the arts and with an overall deep appreciation for all cultures, religions and ethnicities. I credit my parents in many ways for my love of the arts, history and culture as they are both cultured individuals who

enjoy the arts, travel, reading and learn about other cultures and encouraged me to appreciate my origins. To my father, a history buff, we spoke Italian and to my mother, a creative elementary school teacher, we spoke Spanish, English with my siblings, and the Sicilian dialect to my Grandmother. We went to Italian and Castilian schools once a week growing up to learn to read and write Italian and Spanish and learned about the rich history, arts and culture of Italy, Mexico and Spain. Early on I realized that my ability to fluently speak other languages and understand many cultures, separated me in business and gave me a natural understanding of current global affairs. It was an area of growth and opportunity for me within global organizations. A few of my favorite projects included doing business in my parents’ countries such as organizing a press briefing in Mexico City at the Mexican Bolsa de Valores for a global index project for Nasdaq and a press briefing at the Four Seasons in Milan during the World Federation of Exchanges conference held in Italy that year. These were some of many global projects I have enjoyed in addition to other initiatives I have in global cities like in London, Sao Paulo, Davos, Milan etc. As an adult, I have studied French, Portuguese and Modern Greek, due to my interest in Romance languages, history, and also for certain work-related projects. I hope to continue languages in the future. Q. How have you been able to build such a robust, diverse and global network with influencers and business contacts? I pride myself on having an active business network, one that I have personally developed on my own through the years and continue to cultivate and grow. Building relationships takes a lot of time and effort and needs to be genuine and maintained over time. In the corporate world, I have established my network by being collegial, committed and inspiring trust among stakeholders. As a trusted advisor across an array of influencers, it’s very important to treat everyone with the same level of respect. I was always taught to be consistent and respectful. I treat everyone equally despite their title, rank or profession. It’s tough when organizations break these basic guiding principles as it can have an impact on their credibility and overall brand. My network is multi-faceted and includes contacts and executives from all major industries, former colleagues from organizations I have worked in, members of the press, media leaders, influencers, academics, celebrities, government and state officials, capital markets and exchange leaders, innovation experts, content and marketing experts, students and of course dear friends and family.
Q. Tell us about your blog Renaissance Minds? Given my professional experience, network, and interests, many colleagues, and mentors had encouraged me to start my own personal blog. In fact, content has become a critical factor within the marketing industry and in particular social media has facilitated the ability to blog. Two years ago, I decided to start an Instagram microblog as a hobby and named it Renaissance Minds to reflect my multi-dimensional mind and lifestyle. It’s mainly a creative outlet and focuses on interesting and positive posts that showcase multi-faceted individuals and interest. It is the beginning of a future project. I describe @Renaissance_Minds as an aspirational blog for lovers of a modern Renaissance Mindset. My followers are like-minded individuals that like me appreciate the arts, history, culture, travel, innovation, cuisine, fashion and wellness. And, also for those that have an appreciation for “La Dolce Vita” - the Italian motto which means to aspire for a sweet life. It’s a phrase that I love to live by. There are many blogs and social media communities but mine is meant to fill a gap and focus with a focus on the origin of places and things and history as a tool for reinvention to innovate. In fact, that’s what the Renaissance was all about - a rebirth of antiquity. I try to focus on pop culture and interesting places I visit whether it’s for business or pleasure locally and globally. The name itself comes from being referred to as a Renaissance Girl growing up and what I have aspired to become - a wellrounded and multi-faceted woman. And today I am proud
to say I am pretty well-rounded and forever aspiring to live a polymath lifestyle. The microblog also focuses on my fascination with Renaissance art and Roman history. Q. Who do you lean on for professional guidance, mentorship and advice? It’s important to have a core trusted circle of mentors within different aspects of your profession and at different stages within your career both externally and within organizations in which you work. Mine include former respected colleagues, former managers, peers, former employees, students as well as C-suite executives whom I trust. One that I will call out is Richard Edelman, the CEO of the world’s largest marketing and communications consultancy. He is someone who identified me as a young talented professional when I worked at his firm and has been there throughout my journey. Today he remains a trusted advisor and industry friend and is someone I always go to for mentorship. I am a strong believer in paying it forward and have managed various mentorship programs. During my time as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University’s school of journalism, media studies and public relations, I met terrific students whom I have had the pleasure of mentoring and working with through the years. I consider them a key part of my network today and am very proud to see their accomplishments. Last but no least, today I remain focused on guiding and mentoring my two children so they can maximize their potential. I see great things in their future. (cont. on page 104)

Q. What should more organizations, brands and entrepreneurs consider now more than ever? What differentiates you from others in the industry? Given the recent global pandemic, social unrest and the upcoming US Presidential election, I think it’s important for organizations to continue to be flexible and look for ways to innovate. There was no playbook for this pandemic and although large organizations have robust business continuity plans and prepare for crisis, one could never quite prepare for how impacted every aspect of our daily lives would be. It’s important to lend support given this unpredictable time, show empathy, and continue to prepare for the future. Technology and Innovation have kept us connected globally as colleagues and have proven to many traditional workforces the efficiencies technology can uncover for professionals to manage work and life balance while being remote. What differentiates me is my ability to be flexible and adaptable during many circumstances and times of crisis of multiple scales along with my ability to manage and communicate effectively with colleagues from all aspects of business. Given my understanding and experience working with all critical business functions, I am also able to implement integrated marketing, business development and strategic communications programs efficiently. Q. What are your future professional goals and aspirations? What are some of your personal goals? How has this global pandemic changed you? The pandemic created a time of reflection for many. I was able to find more time to dedicate myself to worthy causes, like Tuesday’s Children. I joined Tuesday’s Children Board of Directors last year and the pandemic this year underscored the importance of being a good corporate citizen. I have been able to raise a significant amount of money for a charity that supported families through this pandemic and was founded to support victims of terrorism and other natural disasters. I see myself continuing to advise companies at various stages of development 104 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
domestically and globally and on more Boards in the future. I do best at organizations with good corporate cultures and intellectually stimulating people where I can be at my full potential. Personally, I am also focused on continuing to be a resource for my family and friends and look forward to the day when I can continue my travels around the globe for both business and pleasure (particularly to Italy and Mexico which I missed dearly this year). I look forward to blogging along the way @Renaissance_Minds and expanding this blog into various other areas and hobbies.

ARE YOU READY TO SURRENDER CONTROL I
Words by Laura Kyttanen @laurakyttanen Edited by Cheryl De Marco
t was a warm, sunny day in Los Angeles (okay that is almost every single day) and I was working at my desk in the kitchen after just breastfeeding my 6 week old son, Aiden, for the umpteenth time that day. He was sound asleep in his bassinet next to my desk and had the most peaceful and content look on his face. Yet as I stared at him, I started to feel my heart pounding and body tensing up. I could hear my thoughts so loud they were ringing in my ears, saying things like: “Who are you? Are you just a mom? Will you ever be able to make this life as an entrepreneur work? Will I be able to make my own money and be financially stable and independent again?” As these voices in my head grew louder, my heartbeat grew stronger, my body temperature started to rise and I couldn’t control it any longer, the floodgate opened and tears started streaming down my face uncontrollably. As I wept, my head dropped into my hands and I let it all go. When my eyes dried up and my body decided it had enough, I lifted my head up, and while staring up at the ceiling, with a soft voice I said out loud “I surrender, please show me the way.” This was the start of my awakening, the beginning of re-birthing my identity and becoming the CEO of my life. But more dark days lay ahead before I could really find my truth and create the life of my dreams.

WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO WAKE UP AND BECOME THE CEO OF YOUR LIFE ?
If you’re a mother reading this you most likely are able to resonate with the overwhelming feeling of losing your identity through motherhood. So many things change in such a short span of time. And since the experience is different for every woman, there aren’t many books that help you mentally prepare for what you are about to go through. What can help is listening to others stories and having a tribe of women that are there for you. This is why, following my breakdown, I initially made it my mission to interview as many boss mamas as possible. I started a blog and a YouTube channel with the intention of sharing these stories with others so that it would help us not feel alone as we are juggling motherhood around pursuing our passions and careers. I am so grateful for the remarkable women I met and the community I created as I shared these stories. Yet, quickly I realized how I was trying to swim in a very competitive and saturated market, which is when I became more focused on the number of followers I had, how I would make money, was my business strategy sustainable, and what would take my business to the next level, instead of the impact that I was making. This had me working harder, trying to do too many things because I was unsure of what would really stick. I also found myself becoming envious of what others were doing, and how they seemed to be doing it better than me. It was a vicious cycle. Some days would be really high as if I felt like I had finally made it, then other days would leave me feeling like an imposter and inferior despite my credentials and track record of success. The final tipping point for me was in June 2018 when I experienced a devastating miscarriage. I went in for my nine week check up and regular sonogram procedure. That is when my Doctor saw something unusual. (cont. on page 110) UPLOADER MAGAZINE 109
FEATURE ... She went on to say that it can happen that you ovulate twice and therefore a miscalculation can occur. This made more sense and I was able to breathe again. But then the next sentence came out of her mouth and my heart dropped. She said it could also mean that I had a missed pregnancy! What? How could it be a missed pregnancy when I never bled? APPARENTLY MISCARRIAGES CAN OCCUR WITHOUT BLEEDING! I was now holding my breath, unable to speak. My mind was racing and I was desperately trying to deny that a missed pregnancy (miscarriage) was even an option. I then heard my Dr. say that she would need to wait another week to actually be able to determine the status of this baby.
This waiting game was unlike any other I have ever experienced in my life so far. The mental tricks that my brain played on me were horrible. One moment I felt happy and convinced that the baby was still growing inside of me. The next minute I would be devastated and crying to my husband that I had lost the baby for sure. And worse, there were still no actual signs that the baby was gone! No blood. No negative sign on a stick (yes I tried the pregnancy tests again). Nothing. I had no choice but to let go and just keep waiting. Ten days later I went back for the appointment that would change my life forever. After two different sonograms, I received the news that I had missed the pregnancy at around six weeks. AND JUST LIKE THAT, THE BABY WAS GONE. This loss was the icing on the cake. It was the reminder I needed for just how precious life is. It was also the mirror I needed to see I was not living my life on my terms. I still doubted that my dreams could come true and this left me hiding behind excuses, playing small, and allowing my ego and fear to paralyze me. 110 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
As I reflected on all this, I remembered what I had asked for following my breakdown next to my son. I decided I would ask again but this time I put more feeling into my request and made an agreement to actually surrender. To stop trying to control everything. To give my heart permission and space to lead instead of always allowing my head to overrule. So this time I said: “I want to live a life I love. I want to figure out my life purpose. I surrender to my heart and soul, please show me the way. That is when the universe introduced me to my coach and mentor, Dr. Erin.
After only three sessions with her, I started to see my life from a new perspective.
I realized I was not being the CEO of my life Instead of being 100% accountable for what was going on in my life, I was handing my power over to things outside of me. (cont. on page 112)

It was then that I decided it was time to start taking full responsibility and I began the deep inner work. This started by searching for the root causes of my behaviors and actions, moments in my life where I made decisions about people, places, and things which were taking a powerful hold over me, disempowering me.
“money is scarce” “other people are luckier,” “you can’t have it all.” I had to look at these beliefs and thoughts closely and honestly. Were they the absolute truth of things I was allowing myself to believe because of my upbringing, societal pressures, cultural norms, fears etc? Were they serving me well or limiting my potential? Was I willing to let them go even without any certainty of how my life will turn out? As I began peeling away the layers, letting go of the beliefs that were no longer serving me, I was able to find my truth and that is when I began to experience major transformations in my life. Not only did I become pregnant again, but I was able to recognize and birth my life purpose which has led to a more fulfilling and happier life. What I realized is that my passions (e.g. using my voice, teaching others, working with women) plus my talents and skills (e.g. business strategy, asking tough questions, psychology and neuroscience) plus my triumphs (e.g. loss, heartache, disappointment, sadness) were all important to discovering my purpose. Which is why today, I feel incredibly grateful for all the dark periods I have had to go through in order to be who I am today - a business and mindset coach for women pursuing their dreams around motherhood. I founded Zielo Studio for mom entrepreneurs with heart and soul. Women who desire change, dream big, and want to make an even greater impact with their business and life. To leave a legacy behind for future generations. Even the name of the company has intention behind it, as “Ziel” means “Soul” in Dutch and the letter “O” represents Opportunity and Optimism. As business and mindset coaches with heart and soul, we believe that as we support and guide you to follow your passions, lead with your values, and expand your mind; we not only elevate your life and business, but the world. The overall mission of Zielo is to help make motherhood seen as an asset in the (business) world. Unfortunately, motherhood is often seen as a liability, yet there are skills mothers possess that we all benefit from: influencing, project management, teamwork, managing conflict, focusing on people’s strengths, leading with vulnerability and compassion, and much more. Too many women take a step back in their career or even put their careers and dreams on hold because of external pressure or even internal expectations. This has a huge impact on not only closing the pay gap for women but also what we continue to role model to future generations. It is time to start sharing the responsibility of parenting so that both parents have an equal opportunity to fulfill their life purpose and live a life they love. My coaching is personalized for you to help you achieve the success you are looking for. Let’s discover your truth so you can start becoming the CEO of your life. It is time to stop dimming your light because of your fears. Your time is now. Don’t waste another second. Let’s get started! UPLOADER MAGAZINE 113

FOOD & DRINK SIMPLE RECIPES
Skillet Meatballs With Burrata
I love the creamy-dreamy everything that is BURRATA. Imagine fresh mozzarella and silky, luscious cream had a baby – that’s burrata. It’s awesome split open and eaten Caprese-style with tomatoes or just spread directly on crostini and that’s it - but having it warm and melty is next-level. Homemade meatballs simmered in yummy marinara sauce + melty burrata, served with pasta or your favorite crusty bread. Pour yourself a glass of red wine and enjoy!
HOW-TO
INGREDIENTS
Mix egg, breadcrumbs, ground beef, minced shallot, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Form into meatballs, using a tablespoon to measure. Heat about a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat, in a cast-iron skillet. Sear meatballs evenly, until slightly brown on the outside (about 4-5 minutes – they do not have to be done completely). Remove from heat and pour jar of sauce over top. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Boil pasta according to package instructions and/or prep bread of choice in the meantime. Carefully remove skillet from oven. Transfer to burner on low. Tear burrata and randomly add to sauce, and tops of meatballs. Allow cheese to melt just slightly, creating a swirl of cream into sauce. Garnish with torn basil.

FOOD & DRINK COCKTAILS
Sparkling Lemonade Aperol Spritz
A classic Aperol Spritz is probably one of my top 5 cocktails. It is the perfect accompaniment to appetizers, brunch, or if you need something to cure the “Sunday Scaries.” Plus, it’s already perfectly “spooktacular” for the month of October, being a vibrant pumpkin-orange. Lately, I love swapping out the splash of regular ol’ soda water with a flavored sparkling water, or sparkling LEMONADE! I love Belvoir Fruit Farms Elderflower Sparkling Lemonade in this spritz. To make: Pour equal parts your favorite Prosecco + Aperol into a big wine glass filled with ice. Top with a heavy splash of Belvoir Elderflower Sparkling Lemonade (or your favorite sparkling water), and garnish with a slice of citrus. Cheers!

he Universe has been giving you a cosmic lesson in regards to your relationships, Libra. Partnership is always important to you—so much so that sometimes you will sit back just to let them take the lead. Yet, a turning point has arrived, as a Full Moon in your partnership zone appears on October 1st. Normally, this would be a time of culmination— whether through an engagement or marriage—yet with Mars retrograde in this same sphere, it would be ill-advised to do so. Some Libras could break up at this time, especially if you’ve felt a volatile fire building for weeks and months. If you are happy in your current union, this would be a good moment to discuss where you’d like your partnership to go in the year ahead. Just don’t hide away, though, because with the Sun in your sign throughout much of the month, this is birthday season! During this instance—especially after the New Moon in your Sun sign—you are meant to create your bucket list for the year and take steps to create it. This year, the New Moon in Libra takes place on the 16th—opening a door for you in the week that follows to step center-stage and show the world exactly what you want and how you wish to be treated. When the Sun leaves you on the 22nd to enter your prosperity zone for the weeks ahead, you will be more focused on your cash flow. Yet, it is quite likely some payments or checks could be delayed— especially because Mercury will go retrograde in your finances beginning the 13th. Mercury Retrograde will backtrack into your Sun Sign beginning on the 27th—meaning that from that point on, you’ll feel much more confused about everything in general for the weeks ahead. Yet, despite this, Venus will also enter your Sun Sign on the 27th—gifting you with beauty and pleasure. Don’t stress yourself out and don’t rush yourself. Focus on pampering yourself, slowing down, and having fun. However, to end the month, a Full Moon in your intimacy sector will arrive on the 31st. This will highlight if your wants and needs are being met in your partnerships—and if not—you will demand to talk about them. If there is no way you can see eye-to-eye, this Full Moon may free you of one another and end the connection once and for all. UPLOADER MAGAZINE 121
HOROSCOPES OCTOBER 2020
HOROSCOPES CONTINUED ARIES
MARCH 21ST - APRIL 19TH
Welcome to October, Aries—a pivotal month for you. At its very onset, a fiery and powerful Full Moon will arrive in your zodiac sign on October 1, 2020. This will begin to be felt two days prior and will echo on for four days after. A Full Moon in your Sun Sign always brings to culmination a personal goal dear to your heart and will likely put your desires front-and-center. This will be a time for you to step into your personal power and make the world bow to you. However, despite this sudden breakthrough, October will still feel especially slow. Your ruler, Mars, will be fast asleep in your zodiac sign, telling you it is time to for you to rest and recharge, as well as reassess your strategy going forward. Don’t charge ahead right now. Take some time to chill out, instead. Mercury will also go retrograde soon, and while it will begin officially on the 13th, you’ll feel it as early as the end of September. With Mercury back spinning in your sectors of union, it is likely you’re assessing what you truly need in your partnerships. Single or attached, you’ll revisit communication issues or even 122 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
delve into whether or not your needs are being met—and how to effectively align. It is possible you could hear from people from the past. Also, as the Sun graces your partnership zone most of the month, your attention is drawn to the reality right in front of you. The New Moon on the 16th falls within this relationship sector and allows single Aries to find the right person as long as you are willing to put yourself out there. However, do not commit, get engaged, or get married—as would normally be your inclination at this time. Just date casually. With Mars and Mercury asleep, you are going to see problems down the line if you make promises when they are weakened. If committed, though, this is a good moment to talk with your significant other about plans you’d like to make in the year ahead—especially if they’ve fallen between the cracks and you want to bring them back up now that the pace of life is slowing down. When the Sun moves into your intimacy sector on the 22nd, prepare for more focus on your needs in the month ahead. On the 27th, our goddess planet of love, Venus, will spin into your relationship sector for the weeks ahead, too, just as Mercury backspins into here, as well. If looking to reunite with an ex, use the week ahead. Finally, to end the month, we have a Blue Moon—a Full Moon in your income sector—arriving on the 31st. This powerful lunation will shift your income—for good or worse—as it comes opposite the planet of surprise, Uranus. As long as you’re flexible, you could still receive a raise, new job, or lucrative business opportunity, so work for one then.
TAURUS APRIL 20TH - MAY 20TH
The entire Universe is telling you to slow down, rest, and recharge, Taurus. It is likely you’ve felt more drained in recent months and have seen your schedule open up. Also, you’ve felt more tired on both a physical and soul level - and it’s because you’re going through energetic upgrades. A Full Moon in your sector of rest will arrive on October 1, telling you to clear your schedule and unplug for a bit. This would be an excellent time for a mini vacation (or staycation, for that matter) where you can make sure you are healing anything that needs to be handled. Your dreams will be especially intense at this time, so do your best to listen to the messages of the Universe. Yet, your productivity will also be important this month with the Sun gracing this zone. You could be hard at work with your employer or even taking on a few more projects. You’re known for being a workhorse, Taurus, but do not - and I repeat, do not - take on more than you can feasibly handle. You’re going to be especially busy in 2021 with your career, so with the Universe slimming your schedule down to lie low, you’re encouraged to do that. Don’t stress yourself out. It isn’t worth it. When the New Moon arrives on the 16th, expect more projects or clients to be coming your way. If looking for new employment, this is one of the most important New Moons of the year. Focus on finding the best work-life balance. Happily, love and romance
HOROSCOPES OCTOBER 2020 will also be important to you this month, as your ruler, Venus, will shimmy on into your passion sector from the 2nd until the 27th. This is one of the most fortunate moments of the year for single Taurus to circulate and find new options. If you want to search for someone new, do so- but stay “casual” until the end of November when the planets are more supportive of commitment. Mercury will also be causing some confusion in your relationships this month, as he will begin his own retrograde on the 13th of the month. You encountered a similar storm like this in the Autumn of 2019-so look back to that time because it will certainly echo it. Some Taurus could hear from exes in the weeks ahead. If you’d like to reconnect with one, use the end of the month to say hello or gain closure. When the Sun enters your relationship zone on the 22nd for the month ahead, you can expect a greater focus on being with the perfect person for you. Single Taurus could find serious lovers, but again-don’t commit until the end of November at the earliest. Finally, the end of the month will bring a powerful turning point for you as you step toward a Full Moon in your Sun Sign on October 31. This is the most important week of the year for you, as it will likely bring to culmination an important heartfelt goal or dream. It is likely you will see the world stop and turn their eyes in your direction as you hold more gravity now. Stand in your power and make the world bow to you. However, if for some reason you are being caged in a box, it is likely you will do everything to break free. You can’t be tamed anymore, Taurus. If people don’t like who you have become, you will now rapidly leave them in the dust.
GEMINI MAY 21ST - JUNE 20TH
The onset of October brings a turning point Full Moon in your social sector, Gemini. This lunation will likely bring a revelation regarding an important friend. It may also trigger one of them to suddenly open a door to you that you had been hoping would finally arrive. This may have been in the works for a few months and you’ll be happy it is finally here. However, this lunation could instead see you invited to a very important event—even if it’s just for networking or is online if you are socially distancing. You could have heard from old friends in recent weeks and still may, especially with Mars already retrograde here and your ruler slowing down this month until it actually turns backwards on the 13th for weeks ahead. Flow with the rhythms of the Universe this month rather than forcing anything. Love and romance will also be an important theme for you this month, as the Sun will heat up this area of your life until the 22nd! How wonderful! The most important New Moon of the year to bring new romantic options into your life takes place on the 16th, so if single and looking, start connecting with new suitors in the week following it. November also promises to be sweet for your love life, so start improving it now. This New Moon can also benefit committed Geminis—especially if they’re looking to bring the
spice back into their relationship or even get pregnant. The last way this lunation may benefit you is if you are a creative and seeking inspiration. This would be the perfect time to start work on a new masterpiece that could allow you to fully express the magic within your heart. When the Sun moves into your productivity sector on the 22nd for weeks ahead, you’ll be thinking about your work-life balance and debating taking on more projects or improving your routine. Yet, to end an already busy month, a second Full Moon will arrive on the 31st. This Full Moon highlights your need to rest and lie low, so keep your schedule light at this time. While you’d normally want to go out and celebrate Halloween, it may be a better time to snuggle up with a book, a pet, or a lover rather than being festive. Trust me: you’ll thank me later.
CANCER JUNE 21ST - JULY 22ND A crowning career victory arrives for you near the Full Moon on October 1, Cancer. This will be one of the most important turning points in 2020, as you are likely to see achievements and success with your name on it. This could manifest in the form of a promotion, favorable press, or even an award. Set important meetings in this first week as the Universe is putting a spotlight on you. Your domestic life will also be important to you this month, as the Sun ignites this home and family zone for most of the month. A New Moon will arrive here on the 16th, so some Cancers could end up moving or fixing up their space during this time. A familymember or roommate could also deliver important news to you around then. Despite the apparent forward momentum this month, though, there will still be quite a lethargic energy. Mars will be fast asleep in your career, and it is likely you’ll see either a slower pace with important projects or even possibly some stagnation or obstacles pop up. This is not the time to race anything forward. Also, Mercury will decide to take a nap beginning the 13th, so the weeks ahead will be like you are walking through sludge. Mercury will technically be dancing backward in your sector of love, so you may hear from old lovers or notice confusion with your significant other. Do your best to communicate from a place of understanding rather than frustration. The Sun will move into your love and creativity zone beginning the 22nd, as well, so the month ahead will be especially focused on matters of the heart. Finally, to end October, a mighty Full Moon in your social sector will arrive on the 31st. This may trigger sudden news from a friend that leaves you shocked—as if they are acting entirely out of character. This could bring good news that surprises you, as well, especially if they are reaching out to help you achieve an important goal you have been working toward. Since this is such a festive lunation, this typically foretells you attending a milestone event of the year—and with it being Halloween, you certainly could have such a fun time. Just make sure that if you are still socially distancing to incorporate safety into your plans appropriately. UPLOADER MAGAZINE 123
HOROSCOPES OCTOBER 2020
LEO JULY 23RD - AUGUST 22ND A turning point in your expansion sector arrives near the Full Moon taking place on October 1, Leo. As this zone always focuses on you taking a risk and stepping in a new direction, this could revolve around an academics, travelling, or immigration affair. If you are involved with the media—such as publishing or television—a milestone project could also pop up now. No matter what, it is clear that you have many big ideas at this time—especially with the Sun igniting your communications sector in the early weeks of the month. You could be very focused on a writing or speaking project, such as a proposal, manuscript, screenplay, or website rebrand. With a New Moon also arriving here on the 16th, it is likely you could see more developments regarding it or even a contract coming your way. However, be cautious as Mars is retrograde and Mercury also falls asleep beginning the 13th. If you can hold off to officially agree until the end of November, you will be happier that you did. The fiery Sun will leave this sphere to move into your domestic zone beginning on the 22nd. In the month ahead, you will be focused on moving, fixing up your space, or handling family matters. This is one of the best times of the year to do so. Yet, to end October, you will watch as a major pinnacle career achievement arrives near the Full Moon on the 31st. The pull between home and career appears quite strong at this time, and it is even possible you will hear shocking professional news that appears out of left field. While you are still likely to reach achievements, a promotion, or favorable press now, it is best to see what the Universe brings suddenly your way. If you can hold off on announcements until later in the year, you might be quite happy that you did.
VIRGO AUGUST 23RD - SEPTEMBER 22ND At the beginning of October, you will be highly focused upon your relationships, Virgo. The Full Moon that takes place on the 1st highlights your intimacy sector and will bring attention to what you want and need in your partnerships. Some Virgos could have important heart-to-hearts because of this, while others may decide its time to walk away. As this sector also holds ties to money matters, you could see the arrival of finances from a settlement, a scholarship, or even 124 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
venture capital if you are looking. Your income will also be a prominent theme in the early weeks, as the Sun ignites your prosperity zone. This is one of the most effective times to assess your financial planning and to make any necessary adjustments. When the New Moon appears here on the 16th, use the following week to do everything possible to increase your cash flow. Securing a new job could be possible—or consider upping your rates if you are freelance. The Sun will soon leave this zone on the 22nd to enter your communications sector, igniting your mind. During the month ahead, you’ll clarify important messages that you wish to release, whether through writing, speaking, or advertising initiatives. Beyond all of this, though, October promises to be quite enjoyable for you, Virgo, as you will be graced by the goddess planet, Venus, in your Sun Sign from the 2nd until the 27th. This will create a rare edge in all matters of love, beauty, and pleasure and is one of the most crucial times of the year to “update your look” and attract romance into your life. Use these days to find new clothing options, get a fresh cut, or even plan memorable dates with romantic options. If taken, don’t miss this time to be sensual with the person closest to your heart. Your ruler, Mercury, will turn backward in the sky on the 13th, so it is likely you’ll feel as if you’re walking through sludge after that. Don’t stress yourself out—relax and lie low, instead. To end an already busy month, a Full Moon in your expansion sector will roar on the 31st. This will likely bring an important culmination to your life in regards to academics, travelling, or immigration. However, if you are involved with the media at all, such as in television or publishing, this could be a milestone achievement for you. Last, if you have been craving more adventure in your life and have felt stifled by the global pandemic—now would be a time to research a philosophy or spiritual practice to integrate into your routine. You’ll be happy that you did.
SCORPIO OCTOBER 23RD - NOVEMBER 21ST Of all the months in 2020, October will be the one that has the strangest energy for you, Scorpio. This is because your co-ruler, Mars, will be fast asleep, urging you to rest and recharge and to coast right now rather than racing forward. Also, Mercury Retrograde will begin within your Sun Sign this month too, but you’ll feel the sluggish pace as early as the onset of the month. Mercury Retrograde will officially begin on the 13th, meaning that for the month ahead, you’ll be reviewing and reassessing your plans forward. It is possible you could reconnect with people from your past this month—especially toward the end of it. Use this time to find clarity between you or create closure if you feel as if you’re being held back. Beyond this, there will be a lot of other cosmic news grabbing your attention. A Full Moon in your productivity sector will take place on October 1. This lunation will make you feel especially busy—finishing up an important project for your employer or else taking on more clients if you are freelance. Some Scorpios
HOROSCOPES OCTOBER 2020 could receive a job offer. However, if you’re on rocky terrain, this could signal a lay off. If this is the case, it is preparing you for a better job in the near future—December, it appears. Your social life will also smile on you throughout most of October, as the goddess Venus shoots invites, texts, and events your way from the 2nd until the 27th. If you’re single and ready to mingle, date through your social network and outreach to options that intrigue you. You could also meet someone by socializing with friends—or even turn a “friend” into a romantic option. Above all, though, the early part of the month focuses on you lying low and recharging rather than forcing anything. The Sun will move through this sector until the 22nd, and the New Moon just prior—the 16th—will help you to heal anything that is weighing upon your mind, body, or spirit. If you feel the urge to sleep in and rest more after this lunation, by all means do so. Yet, when the Sun roars on into your zodiac sign, birthday season has arrived. You will feel a surge of energy and a renewed vigor to strike out on your own. You love to be the center of attention and to bend the world to your will, and that is exactly a top priority in the month ahead. Your exact Solar Return—the moment the Sun crosses the same degree it had when you were born—which usually takes place the day of (or before or after, depending on the year) is one of the most important times to create patterns that will echo for the year ahead. To end a rather unique month, though, will be a Full Moon on October 31st in your sector of relationships. This powerful lunation could reveal a shocking turning point for you—such as finding out sudden news from a partner that will shift your future together. If single, finding a perfect match randomly out of the blue is also possible. Often times, this would be an ideal moment to get engaged or married, but with Mars retrograde—do not do so. Save those discussions for later on. While some Scorpios could break up at this time, if you were to do so, it just means someone better could be just around the corner.
SAGITTARIUS NOVEMBER 22ND - DECEMBER 21ST
Prepare for an especially slow month, Sagittarius. You love to “go-go-go!” but you’d be better off taking a breather and resting and recharging now. Focus more on romance, laughter, and pleasure—especially because of the Full Moon in your passion sector that ignites the night on October 1st. This is one of the most magical and romantic weeks of the year for you—so if you’re single and looking, stack dates with potential options near this time. You needn’t be intimate with them; in fact, you’re encouraged to take it especially slowly with Mars retrograde taking place. Some Sagittarius are likely to cross paths with exes or old casual flings this month—especially once Mercury goes retrograde in your sector of secrets and the past beginning later in the month on the 13th. Yet, returning to this initial Full Moon, you could find that you are feeling quite in love with someone and life now. If you have been trying
for a pregnancy, this also could come to light—or if you are having a more “figurative birth,” you could embrace the muse and create art with one of your favorite talents. No matter how you use this energy, it should be quite fun! Your social life also looks quite busy this month—especially once the New Moon arrives here on the 16th. You may suddenly be invited to an important event that holds both personal and professional happiness for you. Consider how you can become involved in communities now—even if they’re just online. However, when the Sun moves into your privacy and solitude sector on the 22nd, you’ll be feeling more run down and in need of a break. In the month ahead, you can create a better work-life balance if you choose. To end October, we have yet another Full Moon. This one falls in your productivity sector on October 31st and could have you debuting an important project to your employer, taking on more clients if you are freelance, or finding a job if you’ve been looking. No matter what, have an idea of how you’d like your employment to look and work toward building that as the Full Moon rises.
CAPRICORN DECEMBER 22ND - JANUARY 19TH A significant turning point takes place here in October, Capricorn. This is because a great deal of focus has been put upon your home and family life for many months, and a Full Moon on the 1st triggers you to make an important change. Some Capricorns could be moving or will receive news that they will soon need to. Others, instead, will hear significant news regarding a family member—and especially likely your Mother. Pay heed to what pops up now and keep your schedule light. Mars will still be retrograde in your domestic sector into November, so do your best to not let what frustrations appear now cause you too much stress. Your professional life and achievements are the next major theme in October with the Sun bringing great attention to your power and success. This will last all month until the 22nd, and with a New Moon arriving here on the 16th, it’s likely a promotion, new job, award, or favorable press appears in the days following it. You work extremely hard to build your life, so use this New Moon as a springboard to set important meetings, get in front of executives, and show the world how you are royalty. The next major theme of this month is your social life—especially with the Sun moving into this sphere on the 22nd for the month to come. It is quite likely that you will hear from friends in the weeks ahead and even attend important networking events. Friends will surely be going out of their way to reach out and support you—and certainly make you laugh. Mercury, planet of communication, will assure a lively chatter with acquaintances throughout much of the month. However, on the 13th, he will freeze within the sky and begin to spin backwards. This could foretell that you and a friend aren’t on the same page and may have some confusion between you in the weeks ahead—or that you suddenly hear from old friends out of (cont. on page 126) UPLOADER MAGAZINE 125
HOROSCOPES OCTOBER 2020 the blue. Keep your antennae up. To end the month, a Full Moon in your passion and love sector will ignite the night on the 31st. This is the most important lunation of the year for single Capricorns to put themselves out there and find someone new. Plan some important dates with possible options now. Take it slowly though and don’t commit, as both Mars and Mercury are retrograde. If you are looking to conceive, this lunation may also bring news of a child. If you are an artist, you will also very likely find yourself especially inspired and could receive favorable attention for your skills. Last, as this Full Moon does clash with Uranus, the planet of surprise, a sudden breakthrough, revelation, or ending could come in regards to your love life at this time. If it does, it means that you were destined to know and slowly shift your path in a new direction. If you wish to work through it, this would ultimately help you become stronger together.
AQUARIUS JANUARY 20TH - FEBRUARY 18TH
Your mind is on fire this month, Aquarius, with so much planetary action highlighting your ideas and communication. However, it is better to truly think before you speak at this time because Mars—in your communications sector—is fast asleep, and Mercury—the planet of communication—is about to also weaken, as well. Despite this, the universe can be a tricky one because it appears you’ve been holding back and are ready to declare an important message to the world with a Full Moon falling here on the 1st. Often times, this is the debut of an important writing, speaking, or advertising initiative. However, you may instead find the impetus to finally start working on a podcast, screenplay, or website update. The Sun will ignite your expansion sector throughout much of the month, too, encouraging you to move in new directions. The New Moon will arrive in this sphere on the 16th, helping you pursue an academics, travelling, or immigration concern. If you are involved in the media—such as television or publishing— you could now hear news that allows you to take important steps forward. Yet, as I warned beforehand, Mercury goes direct on the 13th and will be weak for weeks to come. It is never advised to sign contracts when he is out of rhythm. Another important theme this month will be that of your professional life. Mercury will spend most of the month in your sector of career, showing that you are actively thinking about your strategies to rise higher. Yet, be prepared for plenty of revisions—which are okay and will ultimately help you out in the end. When the Sun enters your sector of success from the 22nd onward, you will be in a rare window of time where you will see new doors open and other opportunities pop up. To end an already overwhelming month, a second Full Moon will arrive on the 31st. The energy of this lunation will begin to appear a few days prior and will direct your attention to your home, family, and domestic life. Some Aquarians could decide to move at this time, or else fix up their space and renovate. If 126 UPLOADER MAGAZINE
you have a roommate, you may find that they are deciding to move out, or you could have a new one entering in. Last, news regarding your family may appear. If this were to occur, be sure that you step up to support them if they need it.
PISCES FEBRUARY 19TH - MARCH 20TH Prepare for October to be quite a memorable month for you, Pisces. A Full Moon arrives on the 1st—one that brings attention to your finances. This is likely to be an important moment in regards to money coming in, whether by a large check, a raise, or even a new job. There is a possibility that it would also foretell a major expense—so plan ahead and watch your money management. Mars, planet of passion, is causing a storm in your finances right now, so if you are having anxiety and frustration with money, try to breathe through it and cut expenses that drain you for no reason. However, the next major focus for your month will be upon the give-and-take in your relationships and if you feel your business or romantic partner is measuring up. With the Sun gracing this sphere, it looks like you’re highly focused on working as a team—or else sorting out how to walk away. Don’t rush things—your head isn’t clear—and with Mercury Retrograde beginning on the 13th, you’re likely to have further confusion in the weeks ahead. Coast right now. Don’t be impulsive. Yet, with Venus, planet of harmony, in your partnership sector from the 2nd until the 27th, it’s assured that if you work to have fun, be creative, and collaborate with someone, all should go well. Don’t be demanding now—focus on connecting so both parties feel motivated to contribute. The New Moon this month arrives on the 16th and will allow you to build a better rapport and to assess your intimate needs and if you are being fulfilled. Yet, when the Sun moves into your expansion sector on the 22nd, you have an exciting month ahead where you will feel highly intellectual. It looks as if you’re ready to broadcast a message further than ever before—whether through the media, communications, or even to people overseas. Some Pisces will instead choose to return to academics and will see success at school. Last, if you are involved in the media, an exciting new television, press, or publishing project could get rolling soon, too. When the Full Moon arrives on the 31st, you’ll be exploding with an important message—whether through a writing, speaking, or social media advertising endeavor. Scream out like you’re standing atop a mountain.
