Spooktacular Halloween Fun

On Oct. 31, our sites joined in the Halloween spirit by wearing a variety of creative costumes that brought smiles and laughter from patients and staff alike.

From barnyard animals to heroic superheroes, our team truly outdid themselves in bringing joy to our patients. It was a true delight to see everyone embracing the opportunity to spread cheer and celebrate together.

These moments remind us of the great community we have built here at Chesapeake Health Care, where compassion and camaraderie accompany all the expectations of outstanding care. A huge thanks to everyone who got into the spirit and helped make this another fun Halloween! Your enthusiasm and spirit keep us all going.

Welcoming New Team Members

At Chesapeake Health Care, welcoming new team members isn't just a formality, it's an important part of fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Taking the time to make new colleagues feel valued and at home sets the course of a successful journey together. Here are a few tips on ways to extend a warm Chesapeake Health Care welcome:

1.Introductions and Connections: Introduce yourself and others on the team. A friendly smile along with a brief introduction goes a long way in making someone feel welcome and part of the team from day one.

2. Sharing Resources and Information: Let them get acquainted with the new environment by relating the key resources, office protocols, key contacts, and where to find everyday supplies. In this way, they will feel instantly confident and supported.

3. Provide Guidance and Support: Be open to answering questions or helping one way or another. Remember, everyone was once the new guy, and your insights can

IT Department Updates

Cybersecurity Awareness

Keeping a Clean Machine

IT uses automated systems to keep our software current to reduce risk of infection from ransomware and malware. The best way to make sure your machine is protected is to log off but keep your machine powered on and connected at night.

Think Before You Click

The most common way for cybercriminals to attack is when you click on something you shouldn’t have. Malicious links in email, tweets, texts, posts, social media messages and malicious online advertising (aka malvertising) are a direct way for hackers to get your sensitive information, credentials, and load malware on machines. Don’t make it easy for them. Be wary of clicking links or downloading anything that comes from a stranger or that you were not expecting. Whenever you get an email or message, count to five - usually that’s the time you need to determine if it seems authentic or not.

Report Phishing

One of the best ways to take down cybercriminals is by reporting phishing attempts, and nowadays it’s easier than

ever. Use the ‘Report Message’ tool by looking for the red shield with exclamation in your Outlook email. This can protect yourself by blocking the sender and zapping the attacks from reaching our Inboxes in the future.

Imprivata is Key to Secure Future

Our Imprivata SSO solution will soon be the key to all our sign-ins, including multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA adds a whole other level of security to your key accounts. The Imprivata agent and your proximity card are those extra factors, and the next phase of Imprivata will include the need for the Imprivata MFA app when not signing in from your CHC-issued computer or not at our site for additional security, but in a convenient manner!

The new CHC Directory is officially live!

✓ Directory data will be updated from HR data bi-weekly to update the Department/Site, Title, and Manager information.

✓ Everyone should start seeing the desktop shortcut for ‘CHC Directory’ on their computers for easy access.

✓ The new directory page is now linked on the Intranet.

✓ ‘Directory FAQ’s’ link on the page that provides information on how anyone can submit an updated phone number as well as update their profile picture.

✓ This same information is available in Outlook address books.

Healthy Living Corner

Welcome to this month’s Healthy Living Corner, where we celebrate health and wellness through practical tips and seasonal inspirations.

As we step into November, a time to reflect and give thanks, it’s also important to recognize American Diabetes Month –a national effort to raise awareness and support those affected by diabetes. At Chesapeake Health Care, many of us, whether personally or through family members, are touched by this condition. Diabetes doesn’t just impact our health; it influences our energy, stress levels, and day-today life.

Understanding Diabetes: A Personal Connection

Diabetes is more than just numbers on a chart it’s something many of us live with every day. Whether managing blood sugar levels, watching what we eat, or fitting in regular exercise, it can feel like an ongoing challenge. And for some, it may come with added stress during the busy holiday season. This month, let’s take a moment to reflect on what we can do to care for ourselves and each other.

Small Steps, Big Changes

If you’re living with diabetes or prediabetes, it’s important to know that small, manageable changes can have a big impact. Here are a few practical tips to incorporate into your daily routine:

✓ Balance Your Plate: Focus on nutrient-rich meals that include lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of veggies. A simple tip is to fill half your plate with nonstarchy vegetables, a quarter with lean protein, and the remaining quarter with whole grains.

✓ Move More, Sit Less: Find ways to add movement to your day, even if it’s small bursts of activity. A 10minute walk after lunch or a quick stretch during work breaks can help regulate blood sugar levels and boost energy.

Did You Know?

• More than 37 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 in 5 of them don't know they have it.

• Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and regular physical activity.

✓ Prioritize Self-Care: Stress management is crucial, especially with the demands of work and the holidays approaching. Deep breathing exercises, short meditation sessions, or even talking to a friend can help ease the pressure.

Support at Chesapeake Health Care

At Chesapeake Health Care, we have three Nurse Educators available to answer any questions about diabetes management: Julia Gregory, RN, BSN; Kimberly Wilkins, RN, BSN; and Patty Hillman, RN, BSN. Our Health Outreach Team is also hosting bi-monthly Diabetes Lifestyle Self Management classes to help you stay on track with healthy habits. For the schedule, reach out to Mary Woody, LPN.

This November, let’s come together as a community to raise awareness, take care of ourselves, and support one another. You’re not alone on this journey!

• Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, lowerlimb amputations, and adult blindness.

• People with diabetes are twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke.
