2. You can also consider wearing a high-quality, well-fitting face mask, which may help reduce the spread of respiratory germs.

CHC’s Community Health Fair

Celebrating Success: Community Health Fair Recap

We're excited to share the highlights from our recent Community Health Fair, which took place on Saturday, September 14, at the Woodbrooke Medical Complex in Salisbury. This event was a special celebration of our 30th anniversary, made possible by the incredible support of our volunteers, sponsors and the enthusiastic participation of our community.

Attendees enjoyed free health screenings, fitness activities, and delicious treats from local vendors and food trucks. From music to a petting zoo, there was something for everyone to enjoy. We also provided essential services like flu shots and assistance with health insurance enrollment, reinforcing our commitment to comprehensive community health care.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors, including Priority Partners, Gillis Gilkerson, United Healthcare, Alterwood Health, and more, whose

generous support made this event possible. Their contributions helped create a memorable day that showcased our dedication to promoting wellness and fostering community well-being.

To relive the excitement, we've compiled a collection of photos from the Community Health Fair. You can view and download these photos using the following link: https:// bit.ly/CHCHealthFair2024. Feel free to browse through these images and share photos of our successful event.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day a success, whether through volunteering, or attending. Your support is truly appreciated and continues to inspire us as we work towards our mission of providing highquality healthcare services to the Lower Eastern Shore communities.

Global Handwashing Day is October 15

Handwashing with soap is a simple yet powerful practice that protects individuals, families, and communities. Regular handwashing, especially after using the toilet or before handling food, significantly reduces the risk of illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia. It also helps prevent the spread of influenza and Ebola. Soap availability is nearly universal worldwide, making handwashing affordable and accessible to most households. Promoting this practice is cost-effective and enhances the health benefits of other interventions, such as clean water access and nutrition programs.

Healthy Living Corner

Welcome to this month’s Healthy Living Corner, where we celebrate health and wellness through practical tips and seasonal inspirations.

October is a special time to focus on family connections and healthy eating habits with Eat Better, Eat Together Month. This month encourages families to enjoy meals together, fostering not just good nutrition but also stronger bonds. Research shows that children who regularly dine with their families tend to make healthier food choices, opting for fruits, vegetables, and whole grains over snacks.

Benefits of Eating Together:

Eating together as a family offers numerous benefits:

✓ Healthier Eating Habits: Children are more likely to consume nutritious foods and less likely to indulge in unhealthy snacks.

✓ Emotional Well-being: Regular family meals can strengthen family relationships and provide emotional support.

✓ Educational Opportunities: Meal times offer a chance

A Week’s Worth of Dinner Ideas:

Here is a sample of family-friendly, nutritious, and easy-tomake dinner ideas for a week to get you started:

Day 1: Chicken Stir-Fry

Stir-fry chicken with colorful vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, and snap peas. Serve with brown rice or whole wheat noodles.

Day 2: Taco Night

Build-your-own tacos with lean ground turkey or beans, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, avocado, and whole grain tortillas. Add a side of black beans and corn salad.

Day 3: Baked Salmon with Quinoa

Season salmon fillets with herbs and bake. Serve with quinoa cooked in vegetable broth and steamed green beans.

Day 4: Veggie-Packed Pasta

Cook whole wheat pasta and toss with sautéed spinach, cherry tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.

to teach children about healthy eating choices and cooking skills.

Tips to Get Started:

Even with busy schedules, incorporating family meals can be manageable:

• Plan Ahead: Schedule meal times and plan menus for the week.

• Involve Everyone: Let children help with meal preparation and setting the table.

• Create a Positive Atmosphere: Make mealtime enjoyable by sharing stories and avoiding distractions like phones or TV.

Day 5: Veggie Quesadillas

Spread refried beans on whole grain tortillas. Add sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, and cheese. Serve with salsa and a side salad.

Day 6: Turkey Meatballs with Marinara

Make turkey meatballs using lean ground turkey and breadcrumbs. Simmer in marinara sauce and serve over whole grain spaghetti. Add a side of steamed broccoli.

Day 7: Vegetable Stir-Fry with Tofu

Stir-fry tofu with mixed vegetables (like carrots, snow peas, and bell peppers) in a teriyaki sauce. Serve with brown rice.

This October, let’s embrace Eat Better, Eat Together Month by prioritizing family meals and healthy eating. By sharing nutritious meals together, we not only support our health but also strengthen our family bonds. Start small, plan ahead, and enjoy the benefits of dining together as a family!
