4, 3, 2, 1...Blast Off! This week we donned our astronaut gear and headed to space for lots of ‘out of this world’ activities! Our young carers had plenty to talk about, particularly topics they had learnt at school: the planets, the stars, asteroids, black holes, galaxies and much more! We began by completing some space themed activities including various colouring sheets, word searches and puzzles. Our young carers also made a solar system mobile! We talked about the different planets and various rhymes we had learnt at school to remember them (our staff even reminded the young carers that when they were at school, Pluto was considered a planet!). Our young carers then made sure we had all the planets in the correct order, trying to remember which is the smallest, which has rings etc. and then gave them a couple of coats of paint, ready to be displayed once dry. We even managed to make our lunch ‘space’ themed…creating fruit rockets for dessert using strawberries, grapes, and blueberries. There were some amazing designs, almost too good to eat! One of the more popular activities was space themed ‘shrink’ keyrings. Our young carers used the kits to make astronaut keyrings, rockets, planets etc. Each keyring was made from special material which made it easier to decorate but then shrunk to a more practical size once put in the oven! Our young carers were amazed to watch their personalised designs shrink before their eyes!
