It was a great way of celebrating a special time of the year for Scouts and of renewing our Promises together.

Group can of course decide whether or not to pass the cost of neckers on to parents. Any problems: have a word with the Shop staff.

JAMBOREE ON THE TRAIL Jamboree on the Trail is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. The details of your JOTT event are up to you, who, where, what time are all decisions that are made locally. All we ask is that when you participate on 14 May 2011, you give some consideration to the worldwide aspect of the Scout family and to working toward a better future through Scouting. For background, go to http://www.jott.org.uk/ You can take part in any way you choose, involving a walk or hike - distance and route up to you. Please tell us about your plans: david.bull@chesterscouts.org.uk There is a special badge: the cost is ÂŁ1.20 each and you can order them at david.bull@chesterscouts.org.uk. The cost will be added to your Scout Shop account.

The get together on the Dean's Field will we are sure be a feature of St George's Day for the future but we intend also to be in the Cathedral again in 2012.

GROUP NECKERS The Shop will continue to provide Group neckers at the best price possible. However, for the future, when a new supply is required, the Shop will obtain them, hand all the neckers over to the Group and charge the cost to the Group. This will mean that neckers are obtained by new members through the Group and not at the Shop. The

WEEKEND FUNDRAISING AT SAINSBURY’S CHESHIRE HIKE 2011 Congratulations to all those who took part in this year's Cheshire Hike over the weekend 9/10 April! Thanks also to the many volunteers who gave up their time and energy to run this great event. This year saw the retirement of Alan Thomason as organiser after more than twenty years - well done Alan and thanks for all you have done.

Your Group can enjoy a huge boost to your fundraising by enjoying weekend collections at branches of Sainsbury’s. Just think of the exciting activities you could enjoy thanks to just one day of busy bag packing. This is the latest in a long line of great offers from Sainsbury’s which includes continued support of adult recruitment drives through The Big Adventure.

The winners were: What do I have to do?

Between May and September, Sainsbury’s staff from all over the UK will be participating in team building events and they are looking for places to host them. If you own your own Scout meeting place or building, you simply offer it to them for a day and, in return, you will get a money-spinning day at a Sainsbury’s store. It’s that easy. What if we don’t own our meeting place? As long as you can facilitate and arrange access for Sainsbury’s staff, you will be able to avail of this great offer. Make it happen If you would like to participate please complete the online form at http://q.scouts.org.uk/s/-KOHEKEC1ybzYC8 The first ten Groups nationally to offer their premises will each receive 2,500 Active Kids vouchers.

JUMBLE SALES One of the problems with jumble sales is the stuff left over. Recently, the 18th Chester did a deal with the Dee – Tex Community Recycling Project for all the surplus clothing, shoes, bags etc. You can contact Brian McManus, Operations Director of the Project as follows: Tel: 01244 682628; Mob: 07851419803 Web: www.deetexproject.org

MY BODY, MY CHOICE The Scout Association has launched a sexual health and relationships programme designed to encourage young people to learn about relationships and sexual health with their peers and trusted adults. The new educational material, My Body, My Choice, is available for leaders to use in a relaxed and informal environment. It is a follow up to initial guidance produced in 2008 and reflects the growing demand from both adult leaders and young people for more support in this area. Reversing an alarming trend Health Protection Agency figures show that the UK has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in Europe, with under-25s the most likely group to contract an STI. We believe that these statistics are most likely to be reversed by young people having clear and understandable information about safe sex provided to them as they approach adulthood.

My Body, My Choice includes important information and numerous programme ideas. These activities include an Any Questions, Any Answers game, where Explorer Scouts are encouraged to anonymously ask any questions they have about sex. All the programmes have been designed to encourage young people to make an informed decision about their life. External recognition The resource is supported by Brook, the young people’s sexual health charity. Further information Whilst all leaders have access to the resources, it is not a compulsory part of the programme and should be undertaken with the leader’s discretion. The resources also include information about health professionals and experts who may be able to help deliver an effective sexual health programme during the section meeting.
