TORONTO’S HOUSING TEMPERATURE CONTINUES TO RISE

The dominant theme in Toronto's resale market place is the lack of available inventory. Not only a phenomenon in Toronto, this lack of inventory is pervasive in Chestnut Park’s other markets including Muskoka, Collingwood and Prince Edward County. Heading into September, Toronto had only 1.4 months of inventory available, a record low, It's making it extremely difficult for buyers and putting increased pressure on prices. The Toronto and Southern Ontario market is also becoming concerned about government intervention in the real estate market. The recently implemented Foreign Investor Tax in British Columbia has brought the Vancouver market to a screeching halt. Given the importance of the housing market to the overall economy, any tax legislation that attempts to curtail it, should be considered extensively and carefully before implementation.
