Design Elements adopted

Chicanes

Are serpentine curves added by design, on streets to slow traffic for safety.

Why?

-to discourage fast moving traffic on the streets by reducing their speeds

-to encourage pedestrians and cyclists by making streets safe for them

-to ensure that thorough traffic going towards C.G.Road and Old City is diverted to other streets through design intervention.

STREET DESIGN – GROUP 2

Design Elements adopted

Traffic Islands

is a small raised area in the middle of a road which provides a safe place for pedestrians to stand.

Why?

-During traffic movement it becomes necessary for pedestrians to take refuge while crossing road.

-Traffic island may also have zebra crossing or traffic calming elements like speed breaker to reduce vehicular speeds.

STREET DESIGN – GROUP 2

Design Elements adopted

Cycle Tracks a separated bike lane

Why?

-since the street has a students as a dominant user group and many students traverse through cycles -promote cycling as a lifestyle
