In 2015 both the Black Sticks Men and Women competed in the World League SemiFinals with the opportunity to gain automatic qualification to the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil. The Black Sticks Women finished 4th and after a short wait confirmed their ticket to the Games. The top 4 finish also saw them qualify for the World League Finals in Argentina, where the team played fantastic and open flowing hockey to reach for their first time the Gold Medal Match. The team was eventually edged out by the home team in the final and returned home with a much deserved Silver Medal.

The Black Sticks Men had a mixed 2015. After a stunning performance at the Sultan Azlan Shah Tournament where the team overcame world number one Australia to take the title for the first time, the team found themselves facing the chance of not qualifying for Brazil. Their 6th placing saw them having to beat Australia in the Oceania Cup to gain entry to Brazil. A hard fought match saw Australia come away with the title, this almost certainly sealed their fate. However through a last minute good fortune the men qualified for the Games and will be looking to make the most of their opportunity. With both teams now heading to Brazil in 2016, the hard work has now begun to ensure their best chance of bringing home a medal. STICK CARE
“Look after your stick and enjoy the game”
Hockey sticks are generally the most expensive item a player requires. They need proper care and maintenance. Players who do this can expect greater stick performance and life span. It is the nature of the game that impact will occur and hockey sticks will suffer wear and tear.
Repair & Maintenance
All sticks wear with use. If wear is left unchecked it can lead to further head wearing problems. Excellent stick repair kits are available. Follow the instructions with frequent applications being the key to effective use. Small layers will act as a protection pad, therefore reducing wear to the head of the stick.

Shaft Guard
Shaft guard will prevent chipping and cracking on the shaft and edges. It is clear, strong and adhesive, and works very well.
Breakages
Just Hockey offers a 30 day manufacturer guarantee. This
applies to workmanship problems of delaminating of the blade of the stick and faults in the splice or the handle. Manufacturers will only replace sticks that are clearly faulty from a manufacturing problem and have failed in early usage, as generally problems occur in the first few weeks. Wear to the head is not part of the warranty as it is an inescapable part of the modern game on synthetic surfaces. Manufacturers will not exchange for wearing of the head, breakages from stick clashes or sticks that are well used with obvious signs of damage.
STICK SIZING GUIDE Youth / Young Adult For a youth age player a 36 or 36.5 inch stick is recommended due to the fact that their upper body strength is still developing.
Adults The choice between a 36.5, 37.5 or 38.5 inch stick really comes down to the customer’s personal preference. The majority will opt for a 36.5 or 37.5 inch stick.

Measure in inches the distance from the floor to between the child’s tummy button and hip, this measurement relates to the size of the hockey stick. We recommend children have these smaller sized sticks to enable them to develop good technique, especially in their ball dribbling skills. If the stick is too long they will need to carry the ball a further distance away from their body, thus making them weaker than they normally would be on the ball.
