DAY TRIP TO THE CHARMING COLONIAL TOWN OF BATTAMBANG
Battambang is a charming riverside town and also the heart of Cambodia's 'rice bowl'. This artsy city still maintains an untouched, bucolic feel complement with nearby ancient temples, remarkably wellpreserved French colonial buildings alongside traditional Cambodian houses, creative fizz and fabulous food where travelers can experience authentic Cambodian lifestyle. Battambang was long part of Siam, but its heritage stretches back to the Angkor kingdom. Today we suggest you to have an early breakfast so that you will have more time enjoying this countryside escapade journey. Located about 170 km from Siem Reap, the drive to Battambang will take about 2.5 hours through Cambodia’s scenic countryside and paddy fields. Start with a visit to the hilltop temple of Banan - an Angkor era temple that has the five sandstone towers sits on the top of the hill (about 400 meter height) with sweeping magnificent views of the landscapes. On the way back take a short stop at grape yards and vinery of the local people such as Rosé and Brandy. Tasting is not compulsory. After lunch at a local restaurant continue to explore Ek Phnom temple and a contemporary 28m high Buddha statue. On the way stop at a local village which specializes in the production of rice paper and fish paste followed by an exciting ride on the local bamboo train. During the tour, with your guide's assistance, you also have chances to taste the local delicacies i.e typical Cambodian snacks, local fruits, fried bugs etc. Finally drive back to Siem Reap and drop you off at the hotel.
