1. Week (03.14-03.21)

This class was my first encouter with Autodesk Maya. I was familiar with 3D programs like Blender and Cinema4D but I don‘t work with 3D programms frequently.

We started by creating different polygon shapes and got to know how the carmera works.

As a exercise, we had to animate different spheres. So I played around with changing the scale, height, colors, shape distortions,.. by using the „move tool“, „rotation tool“, etc.

2. Week (03.21-03.28)

In this week, we animated five objects in a certain way. For the first effect, I created a lava lamp effect by changing the color texture and pattern by creating keyframes of the pattern.

For the next animation, I animated to cubes. The smaller one follows the other, so I called the video „siblings“ because it looks like a smaller sibling annoying the bigger one.

Here I wanted to create a windmill movement, so the cube is spinning while the circle is driven by the movement of the cube.

I animated a planetary constellation, where different spheres spin around one big one, which is also pulsing.

I don‘t remember what I wanted to do here, but the pink cube extrudes out of this abstract shape I build by deforming the faces of a cube.

3. Week (03.28- 04.04)

In the third week, we learned more about different camera movements. We also build buildings, which we should capture with individual tracking shots. I put all the playblast together to one video.

4. Week (04.04- 04.11)

This week, we made some abstract shapes by creating wave and shell structures. So I created curves and then animate them. After that, I used „visualize“ and did an „animation snapshot“. then it showed my every curve created for each frame. By“lofting“ the structure, I got the wave shapes.

4. Week (04.04- 04.11)

Additional to the wave shapes, I did some shells. Similar to the waves, I also added a circle to the curves and created a motion path. After that, I gave the circlbe different shaes and keyframed each of them.

5. Week (04.11- 04.18)

In this week, we integrated sound in our animations. So we got to know Ableton. The task was to create three sounds. An ambient/ discorded sound, pulse/ lead sound and a PAD sound.

6. Week (04.18-04.25)

After finishing all the experiments we did in class, in week 6, we worked on concepts for our own project.

In my case, I thought about transforming sketches and scribbles of my sketchbook into 3D animations. I already did some 2D frame-to-frame animation to show some stroy ideas.

7. Week (04.25-05.02)

In this animation, I used a sketch of a figure which is divided in three circle shapes.

I rotated them to let the figure dance.

8. Week (05.02-05.09)

Here was the first time, I used the Cluster function in Maya to easily move one Iimb of the figure.

I discovered by playing around with Lattice, that I can deform and squish this sketch. So it looks more like a ribbon.

9. Week (05.09- 05.16)

10. Week (05.16- 05.23)

I decided to continue with a different concept. I envisioned doors with abstract flying object coming out of it. I really liked the shell and wave structures we made, so I wanted to use them as base structure. I‘m working on different designs and objects that fly out or around the doors. Also I filmed some videos of environments and but them into syntheyes.

10. Week (05.23- 05.30)

I gave the objects different colours and textures. I had problems with certain textures and spent a couple of hours figuring out why they wouldn‘t apply to the objects. That helped me to gain more technical knowledge about Maya.

11. Week (05.30- 06.06)

I worked with integrating the doors into real environment and had to adjust some animations.

Final Project

For the final animations I used the „bend“-tool, rotation, move and also lambert to change color and texture.
