Back Story
“ I wake up, I brush my teeth, I run. It’s just what I do every day. I think about everything while I run: my family, the theorems in my papers, my teaching. If I’m stuck, running gives me clarity of mind. After 10 miles, I don’t even realize I’m running—I’m somewhere else.” Haresh Sapra, associate professor of accounting, was photographed by Chris Strong on the Chicago lakefront. Sapra took up the sport when he moved to Chicago in 2000 and has since run 11 marathons, most recently Boston in April. In 2008 he logged more miles running—3,000—than he did in his car—1,800. He runs the Chicago Marathon in support of the Center for Independent Futures, a local organization that helps adults with disabilities.—M.M.B.
