Reparations United Wants Executive Order for Reparations
Continued from page 1
BY TIA CAROL JONES
Reparations United was founded a year ago with the mission to educate and inform people about the central points to the movement for reparations. The organization’s founder, Kamm Howard, realized the movement for reparations was disjointed and major contentions developed.
Howard believes an Executive Order, signed by President Joe Biden, is the best way for the type of redress African Americans, who are the descendants of the enslaved, to receive reparations. But, he does support those on the local level who also are championing reparations.
Howard said there is an HR 40 Strategy Group, working with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, as well as Why We Can’t Wait, who are calling for reparations on a national level. In the movement, Howard said there is a lot of conversation around eligibility for reparations, the form it should take, what people who receive reparations call themselves.
“All of these conversations are secondary, (or) even should be put in a third position, (below) making sure we get a commission established. Because, if we don’t get this commission established, there’s not going to be any redress,” he said.
Howard wants people to understand that reparations is more than a compensatory measure. It also has to rectify and correct past wrongs, stop existing wrongs, it has to deal with the existing historical trauma descendants of the enslaved are experiencing, as well as the way help is positioned in the United States. He believes even those conversations before creating a commission is counterproductive.
In 2019, Robin Rue Simmons, then Alderwoman of Evanston’s 5th Ward, proposed a local reparations
fund, which would direct sales tax revenue collected from recreational marijuana purchases, to establish the fund. The measure was approved in Evanston and it became the first municipally-funded reparations legislation, with disbursements beginning in January 2022. Rue Simmons went on to become the Founder and Executive Director of FirstRepair, a national not-for-profit organization that advises on best practices for reparations.
Howard called Evanston’s Reparations Program the spark that made people believe reparations could be done nationally. He said Rue Simmons inspired individuals and organizations to engage in a push for reparations.
Howard said every city has its own unique history of harms that require redress, so the redress has to be tailored to those harms.
In Chicago, Howard and other leaders presented a four-part plan for reparations. It included a Reparations Commission, which would look into the history of harms done to Black Chicagoans and craft remedies to address those harms; an office of Black Americans, which would look at economic development; a revised slavery disclosure ordinance, which would mandate companies doing business in the city to disclose their complicity in slavery and commit to a redress fund; and basic income program centered to moving young people engaged in crime and violence to a formal economy, away from crime and violence.
Howard is hopeful reparations can move forward in Chicago, and there will eventually be an Executive Order for Reparations.

NEARLY 50 HIGH SCHOOL GRADS FROM CHICAGO’S SOUTH & WEST SIDES GRANTED $215K IN SCHOLARSHIPS FROM UNION LEAGUE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS
CHICAGO, Ill. — Capping off the 2022-23 academic year, 49 current and recent high school graduates hailing from Chicago’s South and West sides have received $215,600 (total) in financial scholarships granted by Union League Boys & Girls Clubs, it was announced today. Twenty-four (24) recent high school graduates, in addition to 25 currently enrolled students, representing the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and Columbia College Chicago, among others, are on the road to success thanks in part to the financial and developmental support provided by the students’ involvement in Union League Boys & Girls Clubs serving the Pilsen, West Town, Humboldt Park, South Lawndale, and Englewood communities, among others.
“We are so proud of our Union League Boys & Girls Clubs members graduating from high school and beginning their higher education journeys, along with our Club alumni currently enrolled,” said Union League Boys & Girls Clubs President & CEO Mary Ann Mahon Huels.
“We’re thankful to all who generously donated funds to help support our Club members as they make their way in the world and look forward to learning of their accomplishments.”

“The Union League Boys & Girls Club helped me grow from a hot-headed brat to a level-headed young man.” (Jamaurey B., Club 2 member at Wells Community Academy, to attend Central State University)
“On many occasions, the Club has been my second home. The Club was initially a place my parents had my brothers and me attend after school, but truly the Club was where if found my love for reading, where I grew my ability to speak in public, and most importantly where I learned so much about who I’d become as a person in my community.”

NEW HUNTER LAW PREVENTS UTILITY SHUTOFFS IN EXTREME HEAT
Residents struggling to pay their gas or electric bills will not face life-threatening utility shutoffs on hot days thanks to an initiative sponsored by State Senator Mattie Hunter that was signed into law Friday.
“This is a major victory for public health and the people of Illinois,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “Heat is extremely dangerous, and families should not be put in harm’s way due to their financial circumstances.”
The legislation amends the Public Utilities Act to prohibit a utility company from terminating gas or electric service due to nonpayment of bills on days when the forecasted temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit or above, or when the National Weather Service issues a heat watch, advisory or warning for the location of the residence. Previously, disconnections were prohibited during temperatures 95 degrees or hotter and did not take into account humidity or heat index.
Older adults, young children and people with chronic medical conditions are at high risk of heat-related illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 700 people in the U.S. die from extreme heat each year. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke occur when the body is unable to properly cool itself and can happen even if a person is sitting or lying in a hot room.
“This law recognizes the inherent threat of extreme heat and the disproportionate impact it has on our most vulnerable communities,” Hunter said. “I am pleased to have worked with Attorney General Raoul on putting these protections in place as heat waves become more frequent and fatal.”
House Bill 1541 will go into effect Jan. 1, 2024.

In addition to this financial assistance (in the form of individual scholarships ranging from $3400 to $6800), Club members have cited the invaluable academic, moral, and emotional support provided by their experience at the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs. The 2023 high school graduates hail from Roberto Clemente Community Academy, William H. Wells Community Academy, and Major Hector P. Garcia School among others. They credit the academic tutoring and guidance on college applications, along with the skills gained from the Clubs’ after-school arts activities, sports teams, and STEM programming, with providing them the encouragement to pursue advanced education, in some cases, as the first in their family to do so. And in addition to the graduating seniors, former Club members who are currently enrolled in college were able to apply for financial support from Union League Boys & Girls Clubs to assist with tuition and housing expenses.
In the students’ own words:
“The Boys & Girls Club has
“The Club provided me a safe space where I forged friendships in a way that is not always possible during the school day. The Club has shown me how much I genuinely enjoy hearing from others, which contributes to my liking for journalism, where I will constantly reach out to new people and learn about their passions and expertise.” (Astray R., Clemente Club member, to attend Northwestern University)
Since its founding on December 26, 1919, as a foundation of the Union League Club of Chicago, Union League Boys & Girls Clubs have been serving youth in neighborhoods with the highest hardship index in Chicago; providing quality programming centered on academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Today, Union League Boys & Girls Clubs serve over 15,000 youth members at 21 well-equipped and professionally staffed inner-city Clubs, that bring effective after-school programming to youth in the Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Englewood, West Town, South Lawndale, West Garfield Park, Back of the Yards, Archer Heights, Homan Square, and Little Village communities as well as to youth in the Juvenile Detention Center and at an overnight camp in Kenosha County Wisconsin. “The number of traffic stops that have occurred just because of a small personal item hanging on their rearview mirror has been excessive,” said Belt (D-Swansea). “It’s time we eliminate this reasoning for being pulled over, as it has disproportionately affected specific communities.”
Previously, drivers could be pulled over for any objects hanging from the rearview mirror of their car such as decorations, disability placards, rosaries and car fresheners. House Bill 2389 clarifies that vehicles cannot be stopped or searched by a law enforcement officer solely on the basis of this violation.
“This law sends a powerful message that we will not tolerate racial profiling or other forms of discrimination in our state,” said Belt. “All drivers have rights and now, not being pulled over for displaying a personal item is one of them.”
House Bill 2389 was signed by the governor Friday and takes effect Jan. 1, 2024.
PETERS’ MEASURE ENSURING REPRESENTATION OF THOSE IMPACTED BY THE JUSTICE SYSTEM SIGNED INTO LAW
The Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Justice’s master record file will now contain essential demographic information, thanks to a new law sponsored by State Senator Robert Peters.
“Important demographic markers such as a person’s address before incarceration will help us gain a better understanding of ways to ensure the long term success of people with justice system involvement,” said Peters (D-Chicago). “An accurate record of the last known addresses of those with justice system involvement will support the No Representation Without Population Act in ending prison gerrymandering.”
According to the redistricting hub, prison gerrymandering is the practice of altering democratic representation by counting individuals with justice system involvement at the correctional facility instead of their last known place of residence before incarceration. The No Representation Without Population Act requires incarcerated individuals be counted at their home address for redistricting purposes.
In addition to ensuring the Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Justice’s master record file contain demographic information, the legislation requires the clerk of court transmit demographic information to both departments from sentencing court.
“Everyone, regardless of their background, has a right to be fairly represented,” Peters said. “This new law strengthens the policies we have in place to end prison gerrymandering.”
House Bill 1496 was signed into law on Friday.
“Vulnerable communities often bear the impact of subtle loopholes,” said Peters. “Closing this loophole protects our vulnerable communities and reinforces Illinois as a state that can handle their own court proceedings.”
House Bill 2223 was signed into law Friday and goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

T.D. Jakes Foundation Appoints New CEO Kelley Cornish
DALLAS, PRNewswire -- T.D. Jakes Foundation, a workforce development and community building organization committed to building bridges to opportunity, established by noted entrepreneur and global leader, T.D. Jakes, announced Kelley Cornish as its new CEO. Cornish is a veteran diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) corporate executive who has spent decades championing underrepresented groups.
Like Jakes, Cornish is driven by a passion for social progress and presents an inspiring agenda aimed at reinforcing the Foundation’s support to ensure the continued effectiveness of DEI programs. With a profound commitment to tackling systemic inequities head-on, Cornish envisions an aspect of the Foundation as a dynamic think tank, dedicated to researching and devising innovative solutions for the most pressing issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. By leveraging the Foundation’s resources, expertise, and partnerships, Cornish’s agenda paves the way for transformative change, empowering marginalized communities and fostering a more equitable future for all.
“Bringing Kelley in to lead the Foundation is a strategic and advantageous relationship that will help our efforts in a unique and inventive way,” said Chairman T.D. Jakes of T.D. Jakes Foundation. “We have complete synergy in our visions to uplift communities, and Kelley has the knowledge and experience to bring together corporate and community partners to impact people and transform lives.”
“Leading the T.D. Jakes Foundation, an organiza-
tion that is dedicated to empowering minority communities burdened by systemic barriers is a culmination of the work I’ve been doing throughout my career,” said Cornish. “We want to become a think tank for answers to the issues that have impacted wealth, home ownership, financial literacy, women in corporate America and more.”
Previously Cornish held executive diversity roles for TD Bank Group and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In 2022, Cornish received the Woman of the Year Award from iHeartMedia radio for her work in the community and in corporate America. “There is a trend with Black women leaving Corporate America for many reasons including lack of leadership support and recognition while feeling undervalued in their roles in the workplace more than any other racial group,” said Cornish. “This is on top of their personal struggles where many are juggling caregiving, insufficient health advice, finances, and access to capital needed to create advancement and generational wealth. We want to be part of the solution for these
women.”
Also recently appointed to the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, headed by Dale Petroskey, as a board member, Cornish will continue to foster the T.D. Jakes Foundation’s existing relationships with Goldman Sachs and Dallas Mavericks among many other notable organizations with ongoing initiatives. The Foundation’s commitment to STEM/STEAM education and workforce development will continue, highlighting new programs this year geared toward financial literacy, home ownership, and supporting businesses and career development for minorities, especially Black women.
Last month, Wells Fargo and the T.D. Jakes Group, a global conglomerate that includes T.D. Jakes Real Estate Ventures, LLC (TDJREV), T.D. Jakes Enterprises (TDJE) and T.D. Jakes Foundation (TDJF) announced a strategic partnership to drive economic vitality and inclusivity in communities across America. Over the next 10 years, the partnership between these organizations could result in up to $1 billion in capital and financing from Wells Fargo, as well as grants from the Wells Fargo Foundation.
T.D. Jakes Foundation is building bridges by unlocking the power of global competition through workforce training that prepares workers to compete in today’s economy through STEM/STEAM education, financial literacy and inclusion, and a laser focus to close the racial wealth gap and support minority women in corporate leadership. For decades, golf apparel has been 99% synthetic textiles. Par(x) breaks that mold with its natural cotton. But the standout feature of Par(x) products is the integration of Filium technology, a revolutionary innovation in the textile industry. Filium transforms ordinary fabrics into extraordinarily durable, odor-resistant, water-repellent, and stain-resistant materials without sacrificing their softness, breathability, or comfort. With Filium-activated fabric, perspiration and beverages roll off the surface of the material, and liquids known to stain like coffee or wine can be rinsed off without damage. Filium-activated fabric means sweat evaporates and prevents bacteria growth, thus allowing garments to be worn multiple times between washes, leading to less laundry. Filium’s core technology is produced according to Bluesign® standards for sustainable materials and production, making it eco-friendly and harm-free to the Earth. Par(x) is the first golf brand to incorporate this groundbreaking technology, setting new standards in golfing apparel and accessories.
Truly A Game Changer
“Par X Golf™ is our newest initiative in performance, earth-friendly, natural clothing, bringing to market the same dedication to sustainability and performance as we have with numerous other natural cotton brands. gamma. Taps Music Industry Pioneer Sipho Dlamini & Cultural Icon Naomi Campbell
LOS ANGELES -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- gamma., the artist-first multimedia platform providing creative and business services across all artistic and commercial formats, announced it is expanding operations into the important emerging markets of Africa and the Middle East. Leading the effort is music industry veteran Sipho Dlamini, who has joined the company as President, Africa & Middle East and international supermodel and U.N. Commonwealth Ambassador Naomi Campbell, in an expansion of her role as a key advisor to gamma., is named Special Advisor, Africa & Middle East. The Africa operation will be based in Lagos, Nigeria and in the Middle East from Dubai, UAE.
Africa and the Middle East is a culturally rich source of music and artistic talent. As digital formats continue to flatten the global market for entertainment and culture, bringing emerging markets into the global grid to better connect artists with fans is one of gamma.’s founding tenets.
“Africa and the Middle East are vital to gamma.’s long-term vision and success. These regions have historically been under appreciated wellsprings of rich musical talent spanning multiple genres, cultures, and styles just waiting to be introduced to the rest of the world,” said gamma. Co-founder & CEO Larry Jackson. “gamma. is an unconventional company and we pride ourselves in taking an unconventional approach to unlocking value for all artists, worldwide.”
To that end, gamma. has welcomed cultural icon
Naomi Campbell as Special Advisor to create the pathways needed to make immediate headway across the continent. Campbell is the founder of the nonprofit organization Fashion For Relief, which helps develop alternative industries such as fashion, tech, business, entertainment, and arts in emerging markets from Africa to India to the Middle East. She also launched The Emerge Initiative, supporting artists across Africa and the Diaspora with a platform of support via mentoring and training opportunities, as well as different creative industries and educational institutes.
“Elevating the cultural and artistic richness of artists in Africa and the Middle East has been a passion of mine over my entire career,” said Campbell. “gamma. is a special company with a unique mission that I’m proud to support and help advance throughout the region.”
gamma.’s African operations will be led by Sipho Dlamini as President of Africa & the Middle East. As one of the founding fathers of Africa’s modern music industry, Dlamini brings more than 24 years of experience pioneering the music business across the continent, and evangelizing its artists and music worldwide.
He most recently held the position of CEO of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, after four years as Managing Director. Dlamini previously played a pivotal role in the stabilization and growth of the largest and most profitable royalty collection society in Africa — South-
ern African Music Rights Organization (SAMRO) — first as General Manager and eventually taking the reins as CEO.
Before joining SAMRO, Dlamini was Vice President of Operations at CSM Entertainment in Dubai and had oversight of the largest concerts and music festivals in the region at the time. From Kanye West to John Mayor, Akon to Robert Plant, Iron Maiden, Incubus, Lemmy (Motorhead) to Fat Joe, Ziggy Marley, 50 Cent & G Unit, CSM was one of the leading event promotion & production companies in the Middle East.
gamma. is uniquely positioned to make an immediate impact in Africa and the Middle East. Its digital distribution arm Vydia established a foothold on the continent in 2017, which has since become the second-largest region in total consumption behind the U.S. The company also has established key partnerships with such local record labels as emPawa Africa, Mavin Records, DC Talents, and others.
As gamma.’s regional debut, the company exclusively distributed and marketed last Friday’s launch of Rema’s ‘Rave & Roses (Ultra)’ album within African territories which includes the hit track “Calm Down” which currently has achieved over 5B streams globally.
According to the latest IFPI Global Music Report, the Middle East and Africa combined for a year-over-year increase in recorded music revenue of 23.8%, as well as the highest share of streaming than any region in the world, at 95.5% of revenues. On its own, Sub-Saharan Africa is the fastest-growing music market in the world, with a 34.7% year-over-year increase, driven largely by a 31.4% increase in recorded music revenues in South Africa.
Taken together, the African and Middle East regions are poised to make a significant mark in creation, distribution, and consumption of music in the decade ahead.

U.S. Department of Education Announces Additional Project SERV Grants to HBCUs
The U.S. Department of Education (Department) today announced Project School Emergency Response to Violence (Project SERV) grants to four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that were disrupted by bomb threats last year: Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas was awarded $191,962; Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware was awarded $217,000; Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina was awarded $440,000 and Howard University in Washington, D.C. was awarded $203,000.
Project SERV provides short-term funding for local educational agencies and institutions of higher education that have experienced a violent or traumatic incident to assist in restoring a safe environment conducive to learning. The Department expects additional grants to be awarded in the coming weeks and continues to work with additional impacted HBCUs to support them in the grant application process and expedite the processing of applications once received.
“The bomb threats last year that targeted several Historically Black Colleges and Universities traumatized their campus communities, disrupted learning, and drained resources by prompting costly campus lockdowns, class cancellations, and law enforcement activities,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The Biden-Harris administration will always stand by HBCUs and unequivocally condemn racist efforts to terrorize Black students and educators and deprive them of their right to safe, welcoming, and nurturing environments for teaching and learning. The Project SERV grants announced today will help four HBCUs directly impacted by these bomb threats to better serve students, faculty, and staff by increasing access to mental health and wellness services and improving other vital supports.”
Texas Southern University (TSU) will use its Project SERV funds to provide access to in-person and tele-mental health services for one year, including through access to behavioral health providers. TSU will also use funds for a project coordinator to manage and oversee the project.
Delaware State University (DSU) will use its Project SERV funds to develop a Mental Health First Aid Education Program. DSU will also pay for overtime expenses for counselors, social workers, and law enforcement officers to help address safety and health concerns, and to train employees to serve on the Campus Mobile Crisis Team.
Claflin University will use its Project SERV funds to hire a licensed clinical social worker, as well as to support trainings focused on stress reduction; provide workshops focused on identifying signs of distress in students and coworkers; and other programs to address stress, anxiety, and safety on campus.
Howard University will use its Project SERV funds to hire two case managers who will be responsible for conducting wellness visits and contacting families on an as-needed basis related to student wellness concerns, as well as a full-time field training specialist who will provide security trainings.
Additional HBCUs that have been previously awarded Project SERV grants are Tougaloo College, Fayetteville State University, Southern University Law Center, Fisk University, Coppin State University, North Carolina Central University, Philander Smith College, and Hampton University.
“These funds are critically important to the safety, security, and well-being of our institutions,” said Dietra Trent, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities. “HBCU students consider their campuses as a sacred refuge and home away from home, and it is imperative that we provide them with these resources ensuring that they not only feel safe but are safe. It is also incumbent upon us to ensure that the faculty and staff who are dedicated to educating the next generation of leaders are also able to do so with peace of mind. Since day one, the Biden-Harris Administration has been committed to strengthening the HBCU community and the investments that these institutions will make using the Project SERV funds is another
PLAY
example of the strength of that commitment.”
The Biden-Harris Administration continues to take a whole-of-government approach to support HBCU campuses. For example, to date, the Department of Education has delivered nearly $7 billion in cumulative investments to HBCUs, including:
$3.7 billion through the American Rescue
Plan and other COVID relief; $1.6 billion in capital finance debt relief; $2.45 million in Project SERV funds; and $1.5 billion in grant funding to help HBCUs and other MSIs expand capacity.

(StatePoint) If you’re one of the 45 million Americans who wear contact lenses, you know what a great choice they can be, whether you play sports, want to avoid the nuisance of foggy glasses or simply find yourself feeling more confident in them. However, it may be time to give your contact lens care routine a makeover, particularly if your lenses feel dry or uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, one in five contact lens wearers find lenses to be less comfortable by the end of the day. Consider the following tips for all-day comfort:
1. Practice healthy tech habits: Long hours on screens can be a contributing factor to eye discomfort, mainly because of less blinking; however, making a few adjustments can help. The experts at Bausch + Lomb recommend following the 20-20-20 rule. For every 20 minutes of screen time, take a 20 second break to look at something 20 feet away. If you work with computers all day, you should also remember to blink regularly. It can be surprisingly easy to forget to blink when you’re focused on the next deadline! Finally, adjust the brightness and text size on your devices to reduce eye strain and optimize comfort.
2. Insert and remove contacts with care: The order of steps you follow as you insert
and remove your contacts matters. In the morning or as you’re getting ready to go out, insert contact lenses with clean hands before applying makeup. Before bed, wash your hands, remove your contacts and clean your lenses before going to sleep. One-third of contact lens wearers have fallen asleep in their lenses, but doing so increases the risk of infection.
3. Follow lens care directions: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4090% of contact lens wearers do not properly follow their contact lenses’ care instructions. It is recommended to follow the complete recommended lens rubbing and rinsing times in the product labeling to adequately disinfect your lenses and reduce the risk of contact lens contamination. Reduced rubbing or rinsing time may not adequately clean your lenses. And never “top off” or reuse solution. Fill the lens case with fresh solution every time you
store your lenses –don’t cut corners!
4. Clean and moisturize: One in three contact lens wearers experiences dry lenses, and one in five find lenses to be less comfortable by the end of the day. Show your eyes some love by using a contact lens solution recommended by board-certified optometrists, one that is uniquely-formulated for dry, uncomfortable contact lenses. Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution not only offers exceptional cleaning and disinfection and dissolves protein build-up, it’s also formulated with your eyes’ biology in mind to promote allday comfort. It contains naturally-inspired ingredients found in tears such as hyaluronan, a moisturizer, and potassium, an electrolyte. It keeps more moisture on your contacts (for 12 hours compared to original Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution, based
on a laboratory study) as well as provides up to 20 hours of moisture (based on a laboratory study). For more information and complete use instructions, visit https://www.biotrue.com.
5. Recycle: While not directly related to the comfort of your eyes, you can sport your contacts with more ease knowing you’re doing so with the environment in mind. You’re likely already recycling contact solution bottles and eye care product cartons through curbside recycling. Now, thanks to a collaboration between Bausch + Lomb and TerraCycle, there’s a way to properly recycle the smaller plastic components within these products. Pop off the caps of your solution and eye drop bottles and place them in any shipping box, along with old lens cases, empty eye drop bottles and single dose eye drop vials. When the box is full, print the prepaid label and mail it to TerraCycle. These components are combined with other recycled materials and turned into new products. To learn more, visit terracycle.com/biotrue. Stop chalking up dry, uncomfortable lenses to being a regular part of wearing contacts. With a few tweaks to your routine, you can experience comfort throughout the day. Biotrue is a trademark of Bausch + Lomb Incorporated or its affiliates. ABT.0011.USA.23
Sunscreen is a Great Start to Skin Protection. But Don’t Stop There
time of year it is,” says New York City dermatologist, Dr. Rachel Nazarian. “Shielding your skin from damage from the sun and other sources of free radical production will not only help you look and feel your best in the years ahead, it will ultimately help prevent skin cancer.”
As you hit up the pool, the beach, the backyard and more this season, here are four skin protection tips to keep in mind:
1. Do the basics. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. It’s one of the most basic steps you can take to protect your skin. Be diligent about application and reapply as needed throughout the day, following the directions of the product you’re using.
Fernblock PLE technology, an exclusive extract with antioxidant properties from the Polypodium Leucotomos plant. Studies have shown that Polypodium Leucotomos helps to counteract free radicals and decrease their damaging effects.
“Taking a supplement such as Heliocare is a great idea, because unlike sunscreen, it doesn’t wash away,” says Dr. Nazarian. “Incorporating it into your morning routine along with your SPF can help you start the day with peace of mind.”
3. Reduce exposure. You can greatly reduce your sun exposure by choosing to be in the shade while you’re outdoors, and by wearing a hat and protective clothing. These days, there are special UPF fabrics to consider that offer UV protection. Simply wearing long, loose-fitting clothing that covers yours arms and legs can also make a
big difference in keeping you cool and protected.
4. Don’t wait. Finally, don’t wait for a special occasion such as a beach or pool day to take precautions. Exposure to the sun and other damaging elements happens all the time, even when you’re indoors. So be sure to protect your skin from the inside out every day, this season, and beyond.

As you enjoy a season of sun, take care of your long-term health and wellness. Adopt a skin protection regimen and be sure to keep it up all year long.
(StatePoint) The warm weather months serve as an important reminder that the choices you make can help you keep your skin healthy and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. Experts say that your routine can and should go beyond simply wearing sunscreen.
“Taking care of your skin is absolutely essential no matter your age, skin color, or what
2. Go above and beyond. UV rays from sun exposure are a major cause of skin cancer because they produce free radicals. The good news? You can neutralize their negative effects with a daily supplement that has antioxidant properties, such as Heliocare Daily Use Antioxidant Formula. Each dose of Heliocare -- a dermatologist-recommended, natural daily supplement -- has 240mg of
