“We have over 7,000 committed retailers across the State. Our retail network is the backbone of the Lottery’s offering, providing players with a convenient, local option to purchase a ticket,” said Director Mays.

“The year’s record high Lottery returns provide important funding for schools, capital projects, and other essential causes throughout the state,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Lottery con tributions mean more support for K-12 education in Illinois, and more resources going to programs like Special Olympics and Alzheimer’s research. These resources are an essential part of building a sustainable future for Illinois, and I’m appreciative of the Illinois Lottery’s support in helping to fund theseTheprograms.”Common School Fund, which helps to fund educa tion-related expenses for K-12 education in Illinois, received its full prescribed amount of funding for financial year 2022, $775 million. The eight good causes that the Lottery supports through the sale of specialty scratch tickets will benefit from an estimated $10 million in proceeds. The Capital Projects Fund, which helps to fund infrastructure projects in Illinois, is estimated to receive the remaining proceeds of $49 million.

“We don’t think where someone grows up or where they’re born should dictate the quality of food they receive. All relevant statistics indicate that if you don’t have access to healthy food options, you’re going to have an increase incidence of diet-related disease and illness that too often plagues poor, Black and brown communities,” Nance said.

“While we are proud of the millions of dollars we will provide to the Capital Projects Fund this year, starting in finan cial year 2023 all Illinois Lottery proceeds outside of the sale of specialty scratch tickets will go to the Common School Fund,” said Illinois Lottery Director, Harold Mays. “This change will mean that almost 99% of Lottery proceeds will go to supplement education funding.”

Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to responsible play, the Illinois Lottery was recently awarded the highest level of responsible gaming certification by the World Lottery Association . The Illinois Lottery is one of only nine U.S. lotteries to achieve this level, which is considered international best practice within the lottery industry.

According to Judy Pollock, President of the Chicago Audubon Society, “The Chicago conservation community members have again accomplished some amazing things and we look forward to celebrating them. We hope that you can join us for the festivities.”

In addition to Special Olympics Illinois and the Alzheimer’s Association, the Illinois Lottery also supports Illinois Veterans ser vices, the fight against breast cancer, MS research, police memo rials, HIV/AIDS support programs, and homelessness prevention programs through the sale of specialty scratch tickets.

lottery play is an integral and growing segment of the Illinois Lottery’s offering. Regular technology updates to the online platform improve the player experience and have helped drive growth over the past few years,” said Keith Horton, General Manager Camelot Illinois. “We provide convenience and choice for players to play in retail or online, which strengthens the Lottery’s ability togenerate funding for education.”

Illinois Lottery retailers were also winners, with $175 mil lion in bonuses and commissions paid in financial year 2022.

“The Far South side has been long neglected,” Nance said, adding Yellow Banana has been using statistical data to target communities most in need. “The data showed the Altgeld Gardens community is actually the most geograph ically isolated and that it lacks significant access to afford able healthy food options. That’s why we are focused on this area.”Construction on the 130th and Eberhardt site depends on the City of Chicago’s Recovery Grant approval, as well as Yellow Banana working to acquire the land at that loca tion. Ideally, with an answer by the end of the year, Yellow Banana could begin work and finish work by the end of the next Nanceyear.

Illinois State Treasurer’s Office IT Team Among the Best in the World in Recent Competition

WEEKEND South End | Week of September 21, 2022 | 7

A three-person Information Technology team from the state treasurer’s office reached the semi final round in the International Cyber League 2022 competition. The team finished 15th out of 500 that entered. Just 200 teams escaped the qualifying round, and the Illinois treasurer contingent was the only government team to do so. The treasurer team performed better than counterparts from some Fortune 100 companies and a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

One of the simulated scenarios involved a data leak from a computer network. The chal lenge was to locate the leak, identify the bad actor and quickly fix the problem. Those who finished sooner rather than later scored more points.Daniels, who is more experienced, got a tougher task --- a “golden ticket” scenario. An infiltrator snuck inside a network and granted themselves top-level administrative powers. Critical-thinking and puzzle-solving skills come into play, Daniels said. Solving the training ex ercise during a simulated crisis helps the tech nology specialists do a better job of safeguard ing information.“Partofmy role is to evaluate how our employees operate during a crisis,” Daniels said. “We have state-of-the-art tools in the treasurer’s office, but what if they didn’t work? That’s what this exercise was designed to test.”

“It has been a great role. What I love about the state treasurer’s office is that Treasurer Michael Frerichs puts security first,” Daniels said. “When I have told him I need to deploy, he says ‘Do what you need to do to make us safe.’”

Members of the team each had to qualify and were given individual challenges simulat

The winning team from a Middle Eastern bank got a perfect score in the competition put on by Is raeli-based Cyberbit, which provides cybersecurity training. Daniels and his team already are looking forward to next year after finishing 19th the first time and 15th this year.

“We are hoping for a top-5 finish,” Daniels said.

ing an online attack on a computer network. Working from the office’s security operations center in the Marine Bank building in downtown Springfield, each member had three hours to fend off the would-be computer network intrud ers.

The number of threats to computer networks is mind-boggling. During a recent afternoon, the treasurer’s cybersecurity defenses neutralized 7.5 million attempts to enter the network in one hour, DanielsDaniels, said. who has years of private- and pub lic-sector cybersecurity experience, deployed to Afghanistan in 2014-15 and several other times for cybersecurity missions. SPRINGFIELD – The tech team at Illinois S tate Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ office is one of the world’s best, a recent cybersecurity com petition showed.

“We take cybersecurity very seriously, as the results of this competition illustrate,” Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs said. “We are very proud of our Information Technology group for its problem-solving skills and top-notch teamwork.”Thetreasurer’s team was led by Joe Dan iels, the office’s chief information officer and a sergeant in the Illinois National Guard who has deployed for cybersecurity missions.

According to the Association of International Certified Public Accountants, nearly 30% of people have not taken any steps to prepare their family for a natural disaster, yet more than 60% of Americans believe they will likely be impacted by one in the next three to five years.

To help moms manage their mental health, MDLIVE offers the following tips:

HEALTH

Yet,parents.formany moms, the prospect of managing their mental health has become a source of stress in and of itself. For 37% of moms, concerns about their own mental health are among their biggest stressors, second only to finances (40%).Possibly even more concerning is that 70% of moms admit to holding back their feelings and not telling their partner or family when they’re stressed, and 61% feel that they have no one to turn to or confide in for help.

“Our research shows that many moms are suffering in silence and not getting the support they need,” says Dr. Shakira Espada-Campos, who brings more than two decades of direct practice experience to her role as behavioral health medical director at MDLIVE. “I cannot stress enough how important it is for them to pri-

(StatePoint) A new survey reveals that the mental health of American moms is going largely unattended, with many living under a nearconstant state of stress and few seeking support to ease the burden.

Acknowledging the importance of mental healthcare, many health plans and employers have expanded the resources available to their members and employers in recent years. New options include digital tools that can help with tracking mood, support meditation, help build life skills, and provide self-care advice. Additionally, telehealth visits with behavioral health profes sionals offer private, convenient, quality care quickly. For example, MDLIVE’s platform makes it easy to search for providers and schedule appointments with one of their psychiatrists or licensed therapists. MDLIVE is a covered benefit for more than 60 million Americans through health insurers such as Cigna, Aetna, certain Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, and many regional and local plans. oritize their own well-being.”

1. Prioritize self-care: Recognize that practicing self-care is not selfish. In addition to things like eating well, exercising, practicing good hygiene, getting enough sleep, and seeing a health care professional routinely for preventive screenings and other care, self-care also means taking time to pursue hobbies or personal interests that bring you pleasure or fulfillment or offer you a way to relax and unwind – activities you may have abandoned after having kids because it would mean time away from family responsibilities. Practicing self-care puts one in a better position to help care for others because your own well-being is in check.

3. Seek help when struggling to manage stress and anxiety: If your emotional state is interfering with your daily life – if you’re having difficulty controlling your mood, withdrawing from loved ones, feeling fatigued, having trouble sleeping, lacking motivation, or frequently “zoning out” – it’s definitely time to seek professional help.

SUDOKU SOLUTION

“Althoughwww.mdlive.com.it’snatural to feel like you need to be a superhero, it takes a toll. You should never feel like you’re alone in your mental health journey or that you need to suffer in silence,” Dr. Espada-Campos.

The research, commissioned by MDLIVE, an Evernorth company and leading provider of virtual care services in the United States, finds that 33% of mothers feel stressed or overwhelmed by their responsibilities as a mom at least five days a week. Drivers of their stress and anxiety may include financial concerns, ripple effects of the pandemic, including the mental health crisis among teens, work responsibilities and being a caregiver simultaneously to both children and aging

2. Make time to cultivate relationships: Connecting with people who are important to you is essential to mental health. Make it a priority to spend time with partners, family, friends, colleagues, or anyone else who may be important to you, away from the house and kids, even if it’s just for a short period of time.
