On a windy and cold Sunday morning, the women's soccer team beat Ida Crown 2-‐1! Goals were scored by Jordan Krauss and Maya Resnick. Livi Moses, Ariel Saxton, and Hannah Taussig were big contributors. Kudos to the defensive unit for staying tough throughout the game as Ida Crown tried to penetrate the defensive line! Last night, the team came in 1-‐0 against Cristo Rey, with Hannah Taussig as the scorer for the evening. Ariel Saxton reports from the field, "The whole team really worked well together, and we were able to defeat the former conference champs. We couldn't have done it without everyone giving their best effort." The Tigers next game is Sunday 4/10 at 3 p.m. vs Ida Crown on the L & L Goodman Soccer Field. See you there! JV and varsity volleyball celebrated two wins last Tuesday against Holy Trinity, on the shoulders of Ben Lesch, Daniel Sacks, Liam Lynch, and Micah Brody, with aces, kills, and blocks by varsity champs Benjy Salzman, Ben Hirsch, Akiva Stein, and Eli Nasa*r. Wednesday's match against ChrisPan Heritage was less successful, despite aces from David Levin and Noah Cope on the JV Squad and amazing plays by Joey Schrayer, Itamar Broekman, Akiva Stein, and Eli Nasa*r.

Opera Field Trip Under the direcPon of Ms. Lynn Friedman, sixteen students and four staff travelled on Wednesday to see a stereosimulcast of the Metropolitan Opera's producPon of Madama Bu@erfly. Ms. Friedman reports, "The twenty in afendance were truly transported to a brilliantly created world of Japanese theatrical arts and some of the most gorgeous music and glorious singing human beings can produce. Every single student loved the evening and thanked me enthusiasPcally for providing this unforgefable opportunity. And what a celebraPon, too, of our magnificent students! Ader the performance, seven patrons spoke to me -‐-‐ all wishing to kvell over the uferly perfect behavior of our students. Because of their rapt afenPon, fellow theatergoers mistook our afendees for music students. When I pointed out that it was their very first foray into the world of opera, this older couple was stunned. How proud I was to tell them that they had just met Rochelle Zell Jewish High School! I am sPll soaring!"

Spring Blood Drive Rochelle Zell's annual Spring Blood Drive took place on Monday. All day long, students and staff made their way to Room 244 to donate their Pme and, more importantly, their blood, to help save lives around the Chicagoland area. We collected 30 units as a school, smashing our record from our first blood drive earlier this year. Thank you to the Va'ad HaStudenPm for your hard and dedicated work in adverPsing, organizing, and staffing the blood drive!

Talmud Class Learns About Agunot Last week, Rabbi David Wolkenfeld of Anshe Shalom B'nai Israel and Kayla Robbins of the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance visited Rabbi Silver's junior Talmud classes. For the past month, students have studied about the efforts that the Rabbis of the Talmud took to ensure that women would not become agunot. Rabbi Wolkenfeld and Kayla brought contemporary discussion about how communiPes are seeking to protect women from becoming agunot today. Their real-‐world examples gave great context to our month of studying these texts about the Rabbis protecPng both individuals and the halachic system as a whole.

Alumni Trivia Annie Schrayer ('13) is finishing up her junior year at the University of Michigan, where she has just been admifed to their masters program in social work! Annie says, "I definitely want to work with children and families, so I am very interested in being a school social worker, but who knows where life will take me? Man plans and God laughs, so I am trying to live in the moment as much as possible and enjoy my Pme led in my favorite place on earth!"

Kavannah From Tefillah

"In the past couple of months, devastaPng events have terrorized thousands of people. Afacks in Paris, Brussels, and Pakistan have overwhelmed us all around the world. It seems as if everyday something awful is happening, and some days are just depressing and gloomy. It reminds us of how precious life is, and how important every single day is. Each moment we have to live and enjoy life is a special one, and they shape us into who we are and what we do. Consider the Ze Frank video project, 'The Time You Have.' It’s not always about how much Pme you have, it’s about how you spend that Pme and who you spend it with. Do not procrasPnate and waste the precious and limited Pme that you have. Explore the world, spend Pme with loved ones, go on adventures. How much Pme do you spend worrying instead of doing something you love? How much Pme have you already used up? What if you only had half of the Pme, what would you do differently? What about half of that? What if you only had one more day?” -‐-‐Sammy Vayngart ('19)
