On display in the library are fuzzy stuffed moles that are moleHculously made by Mr. Reimer’s College Prep Chemistry students. Stop by to admire the display, then take a molement to vote for your two favorite moles! As you may recall from previous years, "Da Mole" is the chemist’s counHng unit allowing us to take extremely smole parHcles, such as atoms or mol-‐e-‐cules and bring them to a level that we may measure in the lab. The mole tally will conHnue unHl next Wednesday, when the winners will be announced. Thank you, and have a molementous day!
Senior Seminar Reflecting on the State of Israel Over the first three weeks of the semester, seniors are parHcipaHng in a post-‐Israel trip seminar to explore the Israel climate on college campuses. At the center of this seminar, we are working with students to arHculate how they will tell their narraHve about Israel when they reach campus. On Monday, we welcomed Rabbi Seth Winberg of Metro Chicago Hillel, who gave us a lay of the land about Israel conversaHons on campus. He showed a video at Loyola University where a Black Lives MaVers protest quickly became

On Thursday, we welcomed Sarah Beren, Deputy Director of AIPAC, to speak about the poliHcal alliance between the United States and Israel, parHcularly in the context of an elecHon year, one where our students will be voHng in November.

This Week in Basketball Tigers Carry On
The girls played North Shore Country Day last Thursday night. Coach Forde reports, "We started the game slow like always, and then got hot in the second half. In the end we fell short by 11 points." The first game in our conference tournament, we played Ida Crown for the third Hme; again the Lady Tigers came up short, but not from a lack of effort. As fate would have it, we will get one more chance to play and beat our rivals in the regional tournament. Monday February 8, we will play Ida Crown Jewish High school at 8:00 p.m. at North Shore Country Day. Go Tigers! Finish strong! The varsity boys basketball team led by one afer three quarters against Round Lake but could not hold on; they lost with a final score of 53-‐59. Eli NasaEr scored 18 points and Felix Rosen had 17. The Sophomore/Freshmen team played a great game and were down by 4 to Round Lake at halfime. Afer a tough second half, they fell with a final score of 21 to 32. Both teams look forward to this Saturday’s game against Ida Crown. Sophomore/freshmen Hp-‐off is at 7:30 p.m. and varsity at 9:00 p.m. Come out for the senior night ceremony to recognize our seniors at 8:50pm. Go Tigers!

A Taste of Torah: Mishpatim Rabbi Judy Greenberg's junior Talmud class reports, "We are exploring how to unearth principles of giving from our tradiHon. We are finding the balance between our own impulses to give – how much, when, to whom – and what our texts have to say on the maVer. This verse, found in this week’s parashah appears to teach a significant a value in the realm of tzedakah: If you lend money to any of My people, even to the poor among you, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you lay upon him interest (Exodus 22:24). But, in the Talmud (Bava MezHa 71a), Rav Yosef unpacks layers of meaning to teach us “circles of obligaHons.” He breaks down the verse to illustrate how, from it, we can learn not just to give, but how to prioriHze to whom we ought to give. Performing very precise surgery on this verse, we learn that we ought to give to My people (Jews), the poor (rather than the rich), and those among you (poor of our own families, then of our own towns, and then elsewhere). Our first task was to understand Rav Yosef’s methodology
and opinion. Our second, more significant object is to discern and express our opinions of his teaching. Is this what the Torah is saying? Do we actually agree with the principles? In this day and age, do we have other, different prioriHes for giving?"
