Donnell Robinson Staff Reporter With the get-out-the-vote effort ramping up in Illinois, resulting in thousands of new voters registered, the November 4 governor race has at
least a few voters talking, debating, and asking each other over the dinner table, “Who do you plan to vote for this year?” Now the question; who will select the Next Governor: Money, The People or the Press?
Voter registration is up due, at least in part, to the recent volunteer efforts of concerned citizens, a maelstrom of individuals who cared enough about the future to have devoted many collective hours to reaching out to new voters in
Mayor admits errors but keeps cash Frank Ottman Staff Reporter Citizens of Chicago are requesting a review of the current policies and practices as they pertain to parking, red light, and automated speed enforcement. Initiating a petition, State Representative La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, urged the City of Chicago to place a moratorium on red light cameras that have tagged thousands of Chicago drivers for tickets that many feel are undeserved; the process is under investigation.

The red light ticket issue continues to raise more concern as Rebekah Scheinfeld, Mayor Rahm Emanuel‘s appointed head of Chicago Department of Transportation, announced there will be no refunds for tickets issued after the administration’s underhanded implementation of a shortened yellow light interval. the weeks before early voting began. Could it be that neither money nor the press has driven the high numbers of voter registration applications submitted to the office of Cook County Clerk David Orr—hopefully resulting in higher voter turnouts than originally prognosticated by local pundits and pollsters—and could this possibly result in true selection of elected officials, this year, by and for the citizens of Illinois? "Registration in suburban Cook is going to be significantly up over four years ago," Orr said. "My guess is we'll easily be more than 25,000 registrations up over four years ago." City residents account for most of the 100,000 new voter registrations collected by "Every Vote Counts," a coalition that targeted low to moderate income neighborhoods and young people. "Anywhere possible that I knew there was going to be a young person there, I was there to make sure we registered our people to vote," said DeJuan Jackson, of Chicago Votes. The law passed this year allowing citizens to vote if they will be 17 years old by Election Day may also, at least in part, account Josie B. Rauner fires back, targeting Quinn’s democratic base, working the African American business community with donations, moving conspicuously close to what some have called buying up Black leadership, and borrowing from a four-year-old Tom Hynes ad, which resurrected a late Harold Washington video on firing Pat Quinn. “The African American and progressive communities consider Mayor Harold Washington’s legacy to be iconic and not to be cheapened by candidates of either party for political gain,” said Mrs. Josie B. Childs, political activist, convener of the 2013 Harold Washington Tribute Committee. Rauner’s recent commercial, she said, “defies and belittles Mayor Washington’s legacy.” “We find it disturbing that Rauner would insult the intelligence of this community by
