OPEN REHEARSALS & BEYOND THE SCORE ®
OPEN REHEARSALS
BEYOND THE SCORE
Provide your students with an up-close and personal look at how the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, guest conductors and guest artists prepare for a concert by attending a CSO Education Open Rehearsal. Intended for students in grades 9-12 with a serious interest in music, each rehearsal lasts approximately 2.5 hours and features pieces to be performed that same week as part of the CSO main stage series. Following the rehearsal, students are invited to participate in a question and answer session with the conductor, guest artist and/or select members of the CSO.
Take your students Beyond the Score with one of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s multimedia explorations of some of the most important pieces in the classical repertory. Through historical narrative with live actors, musical excerpts, and artfully designed visual illustrations, Creative Director Gerard McBurney creates a uniquely imaginative, educational concert experience. Following the presentation of Beyond the Score and an intermission, the audience returns to the hall with a new-found understanding to hear the work in full.
During the 2013/14 season, four rehearsals will be offered on an intermittent basis. For more information and to request admission, please visit cso.org/educationopenrehearsals.

CITIZEN MUSICIAN™
itizen musician
The Citizen Musician initiative exists to sustain and expand the role of music in civic and cultural life by creating and enhancing communities through music. Shaped by the vision of Music Director Riccardo Muti and the leadership of Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, Citizen Musician was generated as an invitation for musicians, teachers and organizations to reflect on the value of music. Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra have embodied the values of Citizen Musician through their involvement in activities such as master classes, hospital performances and chamber music concerts for community centers. We invite you to explore Citizen Musician by visiting citizenmusican.org.
Each year, the Institute for Learning, Access and Training at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra engages approximately 200,000 people through more than 25 programs and initiatives. To find out more, please visit www.cso.org/institute. Major support for the Institute is provided by Mr. and Mrs. Judson C. Green, Illinois Tool Works, Inc., Susan and Richard Kiphart, JPMorgan Chase & Co., The Elizabeth Morse Genius Charitable Trust and The Negaunee Foundation. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s school programs are made possible in part by contributions to the Institute Annual Fund and by endowment gifts that provide support for Institute programs. For more information, contact the CSO Development office at 312-294-3100. Lead support for the Institute’s Citizen Musician activities is provided by a generous grant from the Robert R.
