The 23rd annual Venetian Night Parade, held on August 22, 1980, attracted capacity throngs to both the Chicago Harbor Clubhouse and the lakefront between Randolph St. and the Adler Planetarium. The crush compelled many spectators to view the event from west of Lake Shore Drive. Police officials estimated that the crowd surpassed the one that attended the
Papal mass in Grant Park last fall. The festivities at the club commenced
with a cocktail reception in honor of Coach Ray Meyer of De Paul Univers-
sity, who interrupted a vacation to serve as grand marshall. Commodore
Phil Watson hosted this lively affair, which was also attended by Mayor Byrne and other notables. Following dinner, Coach and Mrs. Meyer, who were indeed charming guests, boarded Past Commodore Don Buckingham's BOOMERANG along
with the Mayor and her entourage, using steps especially constructed for the occasion. BOOMERANG led the parade, followed at station distance by the rousing music of the De La Salle High School Band on Leon Delano's CAROL LEE. Other C.Y.C. participants included: WEN VI, owned by Nick Anton, and carrying the Chicago Bar Association's Christmas Spirits Show; Bud Angsten chaperoned the Honey Bears as they danced to the Bears' Fight Song on GLORENE (believe Nancy was chaperoning Bud); INTRIGUE skippered by Dave Truitt and depicting Chicago's cultural renaissance; and Hector Scheffet's

did RENE join this year's parade.
Both the crowd and the judges' official tally showed Ted and Marcy Bruck's SUN SEA the overall winner. Deservedly so, for the Bruck's execution
of their theme, "Chicago, The Future French Riviera", was incredibly beautiful and effective-tremendous applause greeted SUN SEA the length of the parade route. The victory bash aboard SUN SEA was also memorable. Henry Holzkamper was in PARADISE
