MAY DAY SHOW OF SHOWS

& Ann Danly at Table 3.

The annuil ladies luncheon and fashion show, held on May 18th at the Monroe St. Station was a sell-out with 393 members and guests, sipping cocktails, and en.loying the smashing show staged by l. Magnin. Despite the cool and cloudy day the Clubhouse was alive with color and motion: the raiment of the guests, and the kaleidoscope of color in the beautiful clothes shown on the runways were a delight. Rita Johnston, Fashion Co.ordinator at Magnin's commentated the show. There were wandering troubadors and table prizes of sets of Yacht Club glasses. The clothes, all from big names in the fashion world, ran the gamut from slickers to dreamy gowns. After Commodore Roy Spanjer welcomed the overflow crowd of ladies, Alyce Templeman, Chairperson, whose expertise resulted in a perfect party, spoke brief ly, giving accolades to assistants Marion Ciammanco, Dolores Taylor and Ed Clausen, who served as sound technician. We have just heard a rumor that this party may be repeated at a later date - perhaps for Fall and Winter clothes? We hoPe so' - Dixie Dowrie

ln 1968 the power yacht committee consisting of Wil Haag, Chairman and members, R. Allesee, N. Ciovan,

Wm. Ludwig, W. Nugent, W. Robinson, J. Roeser, J. Van Scheltema, W. Van Slyk; donated the Trophy for this contest. lt was deeded and supposed to hang on the wall next to the fireplace. People have changed and lost tradition in a lot of things and now the trophy or plaque can be seen hanging on the wall leading up to the second deck. The contest has always been held on Father's Day week-end in June and has never been cancelled in all the17 years it has been in effect. The following boats and skippers have been winners:

Udell Report This spring is seeing the usual f ran-

tic activity to prepare boats for the 198-1 racing season. Our fleet must be very busy, as I have seen few of

the members in the last few weeks. Jerry Hodlmair will campaign Windjak again this season. Steve Ameluxen will again be helping to direct the ef f orts.

Ondine should be almost ready for the water, as John Cummersall has not been seen escorting 25 different,

beautif ul, young women to the theater. Warwick Coppleson is preparing Auf Wiedersehen in his usual fashion. He has retained labor

to do the dirty work for him. Speaking of dirty work, rumor has it that he has blackmailed Don Clasell to race with him this year. ln part, that is a concession that he needs more talent. Eclipse is in rather worrisome shape at the moment and it may take a signif icant eff ort to repair and refurbish her. Mike Kamerlink has

been in contact with Carl Hilton, and between those two f ine gentlemen, I

believe the yacht will be properly refurbished. Bob Christie reports that Kona is coming along slowly but steadily, and may be ready to race later on this year, but he grants no assurance that his efforts will be successful in that period of time. Doug Turnbull reports that Skipjak is ready to go down to the harbor and he is optimistically Iooking forward to a great season. Let no one tell him that his fond hopes are going to be dashed on the rocks of defeat again. Tom Ryerson feels that a cosmetic change may make Focus go much faster. He has repainted her top sides and it looks beautiful. Rush IV will be campaigned this year by Ralph Campbell and Ralph is confident he will be able to teach the young pups in the fleet a lesson. { Valkyrie and her owners, the Crolles, have not been heard from in recent weeks. lt is probably because

they are busy at the boat yards scraping their fingers to the bone. Wood

boats do require tender care, of

cou rse.

Rumor has it that Craig Travis is looking for a new owner for Vinst, as he may be moving to Jamaica to take care of his estate. lf so, we wish him and Vinst well.

Crail is sitting in my back yard proudly beaming, as the future champion of the fleet should. We

have put secret bottom paint on her, new sails, a small motor and anything

else that will help us beat Cumemrsal l.

Speaking of new sails, a number of

the fleet have ordered new spinnakers from Dick Stearns at Hood.

We are optimistic that Dick's glowing prognostications will come true. All in all, we are looking forward to an excellent 1981 racing season and hope the winds blow steadily and fairly.
