CHICAGO YACHT CLUB FOUNDATION
BRINGING THE JOY OF BOATING TO CHICAGO CHILDREN
BY GREG MIARECKI, CHICAGO YACHT CLUB FOUNDATION PRESIDENT
As 2022 gets underway, your Chicago Yacht Club Foundation is working hard to bring the joys of boating to kids around Chicagoland. The Foundation has partnered with the Chicago Children’s Museum on Navy Pier to bring an exciting exhibit to the Museum designed to introduce kids to boating. “Boats: Captain Your Own Adventure” will open in late May and run through mid-September. The exhibit will use interactive learning methods to teach kids about our sport. Chicago Yacht Club will be prominently featured in “Boats.” The exhibit will feature sections dedicated to the Race to Mackinac, the Olympic campaigns of fellow Club members Steph Roble and Maggie Shea, and the various youth sailing education programs. While this exhibit is being displayed, Club members and Foundation donors will enjoy ‘free days’ at the Museum. Watch for more information about specific dates. Two fellow members, Bryon Ehrhart and Captain Dave Truitt, have combined to provide $20,000 in matching gifts to support this exciting initiative. Special thanks to Bryon and Captain Dave for their support. Please consider joining them and the many other members who have already stepped up to support the exhibit. Your Foundation will host a special preview of “Boats” on Thursday, May 26th for all donors. Fellow Club member John Benish and Cook-Illinois Corporation will provide transportation from the Club to the Museum. The Foundation will host a fun after party at the Club, featuring bar food, desserts, and champagne. Don’t miss the fun. Please make a gift to your Foundation today and plan to join us on May 26th! ✶
